The Beginning
“Well, what on earth is it, Kingsley!” Molly shouted.
“The ministry has imposed a marriage law dictating that anyone of Pureblood descent must marry a muggleborn or halfblood, and produce at least one heir. Anyone who has come of age and is of the correct ancestry will be included. Also there will be allowed no infidelity unless they wish to be severely fined or imprisoned in Azkaban. There will be a full front page article published in the Daily Prophet tomorrow explaining this to the whole of the wizarding world.”
As Kingsley finished Molly looked quite pale. This law would affect the all of her family. All of her children would be forced to marry. Arthur Weasley put his arm around his wife, trying his best to comfort her.
“I don’t see how this effects the whole of the order. It seems foolish to have even conducted this meeting.” This time it was Snape who spoke up.
“Now now, Severus… This does indeed concern the order. We need to assure the safety of the children who are upstairs. Without our help, they will be married off to the first high bidder, or worse…” Dumbledore said quietly but with great meaning.
Snape just rolled his eyes and snorted.
“I do believe our primary concern should be Miss Granger. There will be those who will want her because they will see her as an opportunity to get to Mr. Potter.”
Once again it was Severus who spoke. “Albus, Miss Granger is not yet of age. We have no need to worry. We have other things we need to worry about aside from who the child will marry.”
“Severus… Miss granger will come of age in one day. AND, should you count her third year with the time turner, which the ministry is quite aware of, Miss Granger will be turning 18, not 17. So, there is indeed reason to worry for her safety, Severus.”
At those words Molly paled considerably and buried her face in her husband’s shoulder. It was common knowledge that she considered both Harry and Hermione to be her children, not by blood, but by love.
“What we must do is find Miss Granger a suitable husband. One whom we know and trust,” Dumbledore said as he looked around the table, a slight twinkle in his eye as he did so.
“I beg your pardon? Are you actually saying that one of us, one of the Order should marry a child who has barely come of age? A child!” Severus looked sharply at Dumbledore.
“That is exactly what I am saying, Severus. We must find her a suitable Pureblood husband whom we can trust to look after her and keep her safe.”
As soon as those words left his mouth, there were shouts of “married”, “halfblood”, or “muggleborn” sprouting from around the table.
Albus smiled softly. “One of you has said nothing, and you are the one who would be perfect for this endeavor. Pureblood, single, and most of all, safe.” He had a look on his face that made it clear that there would be no argument, whatsoever.
Molly removed her head from her husband’s shoulder and looked at Dumbledore, eyes full of worry. “Who Albus… who?”
Dumbledore smiled a kind smile and simply said, “Why Sirius Black, of course.”
