When Worlds Collide

Summery: Hermione is being targeted by an evil that hasn’t set foot on earth in over a thousand years. Now, she must be protected. What happens when she and her protector fall in love? R/R

Chapter 1

Hermione, Harry, Draco, and Ron sat in a compartment on the Hogwarts Express. She was laughing as Ron was beat, for the third time in a row at Wizard’s Chess by Draco.

“You’re cheating somehow!” Ron cried.

“No, I just happen to have learned from the best chess player. My godfather.” Draco laughed.

The four friends were excited about their final year, despite the war being in full swing. A few hours later, the train pulled into Hogsmeade station. They waved to Hagrid as they made their way toward the waiting carriages.

“I hear Lupin is returning as our D.A.D.A professor.” Ron said.

“Yep. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to teach us this year.” Harry added.

“Mione? What is it?” Draco asked worriedly as he caught Hermione fearful expression.

“I don’t know. I just got this strange feeling. Like this war is about to get even worse.” She answered.

The carriages arrived at the castle and the students began climbing out and heading inside to the Great Hall for the Welcoming Feast. Hermione pushed her worries away as she and her friends took their seats at Gryffindor table.

A few moments later, Professor McGonagall led in the first years. The older students sat patiently as each new students was sorted into their new houses. Once the sorting was finished, Albus rose to his feet.

“Welcome to a new year everyone. To the older students, welcome back; to our new students, welcome. First, let’s have a round of applause for our Head Girl and Boy, Hermione Granger of Gryffindor and Ernie McMillian from Ravenclaw.” Albus said.

Hermione and Erine stood up as the students clapped and cheered. Once the hall fell silent once more, Albus stood up again.

“I would also like to welcome back Professor R.J. Lupin as our Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Mr. Filtch, our caretaker, has once again updated the list of items that are not allowed in the castle. The list can be viewed on his office door. The forbidden Forest is still off limits to all students. New and old. On a more serious note, as you are all aware, we are in the midst of a war. Now is the time for us all to ban together. Untied we shall stand, but if we remain divided, we shall fall. Now, everyone tuck in.” Albus said.

The hall was instantly filled with chatter and the clatter of glasses and silver ware, as plates and glasses were filled with delicious smelling food and ice cold pumpkin juice.

“Wow, if looks could kill.” Ginny said.

“What do you mean?” Ron asked.

“Just the looks the Slytherins are sending over her towards Draco.” Ginny answered.

“You would think that they would have gotten it out of their systems over the summer.” Hermione sighed as she rolled her eyes.

“I don’t give a damn. I’m with my true friends and the love of my life. They can all kiss my ass for all I care.” Draco said.

The other Gryffindors laughed as Draco leaned over and kissed Harry lovingly. Hermione and Ginny just shook their heads and returned to their meals. Up at the staff table, Remus and Severus looked down at the Gryffindors and smiled slightly.

“Draco seems happier. Especially since he and Harry started dating.” Remus said.

“I agree. I can’t remember the last time I saw him this happy. At least now he’s free of Lucius.” Severus replied.

“I know when the final battle happens, Draco will stand at Harry’s side, just as Ron will.” Remus added.

Severus nodded. An hour or so later, the students began making their way toward their houses. As Head Girl, Hermione had her own rooms near Gryffindor Tower.

“See you in the morning.” Harry said as he draped his arms around Draco’s shoulders.

“See you in the morning. Sweet dreams.” Hermione replied as she passed the portrait of the Fat Lady.

Hermione said her password and entered her rooms. She gasped. They were beautiful. Her sitting room was done in calming blues, greens, and lavenders. A large white marbled fireplace was built into the center wall. A sofa, love seat and two arm chairs were arranged around the fireplace. Beautiful tapestries and landscapes adorned the walls. Soft, plush, sea blue carpet rested beneath her feet.

She exited the sitting room and entered her bedroom. Her bedroom was just as beautiful. A large King-size bed rested on a raised platform in the center of the room with sky blue curtains surrounded the bed. The bedding itself was a mixture of light blues and lavenders.

“A girl can get used to this.” Hermione said out loud.

At the same moment on Coruacant, Anakin and Obi-Wan were standing at the docking bay at the Senator’s apartments.

“Thank you for lending me your ship Padme.” Anakin replied to the Senator from Naboo, Padme Amadala.

“You’re most welcome Ani. Just bring it back in one piece this time.” Padme replied with a chuckle.

“Good luck Anakin. Use R2-D2 to send word once you’ve made contact with Hermione. I have already spoken with Albus Dumbledore and he will meet you on Saturday night.” Obi-Wan explained.

“Very well.” Anakin said.

“Anakin, may the Force be with you.” Obi-Wan replied.

“And may the Force be with you old friend.” Anakin smiled.

Obi-Wan and Padme stepped back as Anakin boarded the ship. A few minutes later the rockets ignited and the Nubian craft took to the sky.

“I hope he’s successful.” Padme said.

“As do I milady.” Obi-Wan replied.

The first week had almost passed without any problems. That is until Thursday. Harry, Draco, Ron and Hermione were on their way to Transfiguration when Pansy, Goyle, and Crabbe approached them.

“Look boys, it’s the traitor.” Pansy said.

“Go away pug face.” Ron replied.

“Make us Weasley.” Goyle growled.

Before anyone could blink, the four Gryffindors drew their wands and pointed them at the three Slytherins. At the moment, Severus rounded the corner.

“Starting fights? How un-Gryffindor.” Severus sneered.

“But sir! They…” Ron started.

“I have no time for your excuses. That’s five points each from Gryffindor and detention with me on Saturday night. Eight o’clock sharp.” Severus hissed, then walked away.

The three Slytherins began laughing as they too walked away. The four Gryffindors just grumbled as they turned and hurried off for McGonagall’s classroom. The rest of the week passed without incident. Hermione still had her feeling that things were about to get a lot more complicated. As she laid in bed on Friday night, her mind began to wander.

‘What am I feeling? I know it’s something in the Force, but I can’t pinpoint it. I wish I could, then I could inform the Headmaster.’ She thought sadly.

In space, Anakin stared at the monitor of the ship. He was once more going over the records he had on the Granger Jedi and their descendants.

“No wonder the council is concerned for her R2. She could very well be more powerful than me and Master Yoda if she were a fully trained Jedi.” Anakin said to the little astro droid.

R2 let out a series of beeps and Anakin just chuckled. He closed the records, then headed to get some rest. He would be landing soon and wanted to be fully rested when he did.

Saturday night came quickly for the four Gryffindors. After dinner, they slowly made their way down toward Severus’s classroom and knocked on the large oak door.

“Enter!” Severus called out.

The four entered. They found Severus sitting at his desk marking papers. He looked up when the door closed behind them.

“Ah, you’re on time. Please have a seat.” Severus said. They did so. “Now, I’m sorry about giving you four detention, but I had to make the Slytherins think I am still favoring them.” Severus explained.

“We understand sir.” Harry said.

“As for the twenty points, you’ll get it back after you four brew some simple healing potions Poppy need. Plus, an additional five points each for your troubles.” Severus replied.

The four students nodded. Severus gave them the potions they would be brewing and they quickly set to work. Not knowing that disaster was only a few hours away.
