Where?
Title: The Ruins
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Adrian Pucey
Prompt: #78 Where?
Word Count: 329
Rating: Maybe PG-13
Summary: Adrian stands alone after the battle; lost.
Author's Notes: A drabble.
------
Adrian Pucey stood before the remains of what used to be his shop, a rubble amidst the remains of a dozen other shops. Most of the shop owners had fled Hogsmeade in those last fatal days, abandoning their dreams and choosing instead to survive. Adrian remembered with shame that he had almost ran away as well. Instead, he had gone to Hogwarts and helped them win; like he was some sort of bloody Gryffindor.
Running a hand through his black hair, Adrian cringed when he was reminded of the wound he had taken during the war. Bringing his arm down, he studied the long gash on it. He was bleeding, bruised and his hand was badly burnt, but he was still luckier than others. He had gotten away from his family before they destroyed themselves. His father went missing, that's what the Aurors chose to tell him at least. He knew it was only a matter of time until was informed that his mother had died, she had seemed very intent on drinking herself to death. Taking in a shuddering breath, Adrian stuffed his good hand into a pocket before turning away from his dream. He had tried so hard to save it, he should have been saving his family instead.
With heavy steps, he struggled to walk without a limp, not wanting to show the dead bodies of Death Eaters that littered Hogsmeade that he was weak because of them. He had no idea where to go now, he only knew that he had to get away from the dead town of Hogsmeade. Reaching the train tracks, Adrian sat on the muddy ground.
Where do I go from here? Looking up, he took in the ruined castle of Hogwarts, he wondered if there would be anyone left there. There were lamps lit, he could see them through some of the few windows that weren't broken. Standing up, Adrian thought that perhaps he would start there.
