Chapter 2 - Rumors.

“Eat.” Harry protested as Hermione sat slouched at the Gryffindor table eyeing her food but not even coming close to touching it.

“No.” She said quickly as she glanced from her food to the glaring eyes that watched her. Everyone heard of the Quidditch player leaving the school brain for some redheaded, perfect bodied girl he met while he was gone. Harry looked up and saw them watching. He shot them all a look that said ‘You better turn your eyes somewhere else before I remove them’. The other students understood the message and turned back to their food and conversation.

“You need to eat.” Harry coaxed her again.

“Make me.” She said this time quicker than before. She continued to stare at her food as if it was the enemy. As if by eating it she was giving in to this new change. The change of him being out of her life. She wasn’t ready to accept that change quite yet. While Harry was talking with Ginny Hermione slid her hand into her robe pockets and fingered the material of Krum’s forgotten tie.

She let a smile crawl over her lips at the familiar feel of his clothing. The smile left just as quickly as it came when she realized she would never get to feel his clothes against her skin again. Not when he held her in his arms. When they held hands when they walked or when they were in the heat of the moment rushing to get the said clothing off.

Harry turned his head to look at her and he knew what was in her pocket. It was the same thing that had been in her pocket for the last week. When he found her crying on the floor his heart went out to his best friend. She didn’t deserve to cry over someone like Krum, he had never liked Krum but this wasn’t the best time to pull out the ‘I told you so’ card.

He finished eating and said his goodbyes to Ginny and Ron before standing up and turning to the brunette.

“Want me to take you to the common room?” He knew that if he left her here there was a good chance she’d sit there all day. She nodded slightly removing her hand from her pocket knowing he had caught her.

He watched her slowly stand up and he wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her close letting her rest her head on his shoulder. He cared for her more than anything. She has the sister he never had and he hated seeing her like this. He hated seeing her broken.

He walked her to the Gryffindor common room sitting her down in one of the chairs near the fire. He waited a few moments and watched as she was again memorized by the fire like she was every day when classes weren’t in session. Harry slide her favorite books onto the arm of the chair before kissing her on the cheek and leaving to go visit with Ron.

An hour later if you looked into the common room you wouldn’t have known it was more than seconds after Harry had left. Hermione sat in her same position in the chair and the book hadn’t been touched. Two Gryffindor sixth years giggled ad laughed as they walked into the room ignoring Hermione’s presence.

“He’s good. I mean well you can look at him and know he knows what he’s doing but the man is good.” The blonde laughed talking to her friend.

“Who knew Draco Malfoy was such a sex god.” The girls laughed as the climbed the stairs to their rooms. The words that had come from the blonde’s mouth barely registered with Hermione, but she definitely heard enough to know that Draco was good. She didn’t think twice about what she had heard. She knew he was the kind of guy who got around the school and what she heard didn’t surprise her a bit but it did affect her enough she had to shift in her seat.

Not long after the girls went back up to their rooms Harry came into the common room and stood next to her chair.

“Ready for potions?” He leaned over to look at her. ”We’re going to be late and Snape is already showing some sign of a heart when it comes to what’s been going on but expecting him to not punish you for being late is miles from reality.” He held her books in his hands, stopping by her room before he came to get her was obviously a good idea because he knew this was going to take a while.

He sighed. “Hermione, you can’t let what happened ruin your scores. Don’t let him control this now he’s gone. This is something you’re good at and something you excel at. Don’t let him take this away, he’s taken enough away from you.” He stopped talking and simply looked at her hoping his words got through to her. Just when he thought that she wasn’t going to reply she opening her mouth a little and spoke.

“You’re right.” She mumbled quickly before standing up and gathering her books.

Harry nodded with a smile and they walked to class.
