chapter 2

Please let me know what you think
////////////////////////////////////////

Draco stared up at the rapidly swirling clouds above the train muttering to himself. He\'d never admit it but he had a great fear of storms. It wasn\'t rational but then again most fears weren\'t. It was however enough to make him back out of any Quiddich match being held in a bout of bad weather. But of a laugh when you thought about what with him living in England and all.

The winds are howling through the trees
The clouds are racing \'cross the sky
The weather is changing once again
Great dragons are passing by
By thought I follow your airy dance
Through mountains of clouds above so high
Bring us good weather for this land
Great dragons, pass on by

He made a slight pushing motion with his hands away from his chest and held his breath as the huge black dragon swirling in the dark clouds turned a baleful eye towards the train before moving higher into the heavens. Draco breathed a sigh of relief. It didn\'t always work but it was nice when it did. Weather dragons tended to be a headstrong lot after all.

While I\'m at it I should do something about this compartment, he thought fingering the bag that held Aries safe away from prying eyes. He wasn\'t exactly the most popular student in Slytherin since refusing the Dark Mark on his Sixteenth birthday. Of course he had explained it all away but still better safe than sorry.

Light calls to light
Only those of light may enter here
The way is barred to all who wish me harm
I give my greeting only to the light

He frowned as a warm shudder made it\'s way down his back. That had never happened before and anytime you were messing with incantations and something unexpected happened it was better to leave off.

Farewell to you, O dragons fair
Fire, Earth, Water and Air
Together we make magick well
By power deep and dragon spell
In peace go now. Return once more
To teach me magick and ancient lore
Draconis! Draconis! Draconis!

Aries shifted restlessly under his hand and after he had checked to make sure the door was firmly closed he unzipped the bag and let the little dragon poke his head out.

“Just stay near to me. No one can know about you after all.” He smiled as the slitted orange eyes of his friend looked up at him as if to say he already knew that and how dare Draco suggest otherwise. Draco\'s Aunt had a cat that often had the same expression on it\'s chubby flat face. “I just worry. Kind of like I worry about what that tingle was. I\'ve never felt that before and well with everything going on... should I worry?”

Aries sniffed at the boys fingers before nipping them lightly and flaring his wings. He glanced in the direction of a half eaten box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and hunkered down practically crawling towards it.

“You\'re stalking a box of sweets? That\'s a pretty sad thing for a great and mighty dragon don\'t you think?”

Aries pounced sending the packaging skittering across the seat and spilling the small sweets everywhere. He looked over his wings at the blonde and Draco could swear he was smirking.

“Well when you\'re as small as you are I guess you have to hunt things your size like dust bunnies and lint.” He laughed as a brown bean flew at his head tossed by a flick of the dragon\'s tail.

Draco adored his dragon. He didn\'t think anyone would ever understand how happy it had made him the day the glittering Aries showed up in his chambers at Malfoy Manor. Of course he had thought it a mouse at first because the dragon was tangled up in the leg of a pair of trousers that was laying on the floor. Of course he never had figured out how he had summoned Aries in the first place or why the tiny thing had decided to stay with him.

Aries head snapped up suddenly and he dove back into the bag by Draco\'s leg with a hiss. Draco stiffened as he heard the Golden Trio\'s voice outside the door.

“It\'s the only place that\'s not full.”

“But Malfoy is in there. You know, great sodding prick Malfoy”

“Oh honestly.” Hermione flung open the compartment door and stuck her bushy head inside. “Harry doesn\'t have anywhere to sit and Ron and I have to go meet the other prefects at the front of the train. Do you mind if he sits here?”

Draco turned away from her and shrugged. With any luck at all the spell he had just cast would drive the other away.

“See it\'s all sorted out.” Hermione pushed Harry\'s trunk in and grabbed Ron\'s hand tugging him in the other direction.

“If you hurt him Malfoy I\'ll knock you into next week” Ron threatened.

“And I\'ll kick our arse next Thursday” the blonde shot back.

Harry pushed the door shut on his stuttering friend. “Goodbye. I\'ll see you when we get to Hogwarts. We\'ll take a carriage together.”

Draco listen to the other two argue all the way up the line before resuming staring out the window. Aries wouldn\'t be happy he had to stay in the bag the rest of the way to the school but he\'d live.

After a while he became aware of the fact Harry was watching him. He turned slowly and met emerald green eyes mere inches away from his face own. He jerked back with a yelp. “Bloody hell Potter! Don\'t do that! What do you want?”

Harry shrugged and moved back to the seat across the way. “Nothing. Just thought you were having a fit or something. You haven\'t moved in a while you know.”

“I was thinking.” Draco smoothed his robes trying to cover the fluster he had felt when confronted with the others soul searing gaze. If eyes were the window to the soul then Harry\'s were wide open. I wonder if he knows crossed the boy mind before being viciously and utterly stamped out.

“Your eyes aren\'t grey.”

Caught by surprise again Draco jerked his head up. “What?”

Harry slumped into a more comfortable position crossing his legs over each other and sliding so his long legs were a breath away from the shorter\'s. “Your eyes aren\'t grey,” he repeated. “I always thought they were but they\'re not. They\'re kind of a purple blue. They\'re really gor...really cool.”

Draco leaned forward having to place a foot on either side of Harry\'s legs to get a good view of him.. “That\'s not what you were going to say.”

“No. It wasn\'t.”

“Then what? What were you going to say about my eyes?” Aries stirred beside him but Draco didn\'t pay any attention.

Harry leaned forward until his lips were lightly pressed against the others. “I was going to say they\'re gorgeous.”

Draco\'s breathing speed up and he felt his eyes start to slip closed. Harry\'s hand came up to cup his head and the movement snapped Draco to his senses. He stumbled to his feet and grabbing his bag ran from the compartment.

Harry threw himself backwards against the seat wide eyed. “What the hell did I just try to do?”

In the bag Aries glowed brightly. It was hard to finish a spell when one of the subjects of said spell was too shy to let it play out the way the other boy in the spell had intended it to. The glow faded slightly and the dragon guardian tried to find a way to sit where he wouldn\'t be jostled so much. He had been alive for 777 years. A few more weeks to let the spell strengthen wouldn\'t hurt him any.
