just like old times
I looked as he pulled in on a road ending up right in front of a pretty big two storeys house. It looked beautiful with its white facades, big elegant windows, and a lot of ground around it, where I was sure we would have a lot of fun.
“Everyone get their bags, and I will show you where you will be living for the next month” he said, and brought the car to a hold.
We all got out, retrieved our luggage from the trunk, and followed him inside. The foyer was beautiful, with warm orange nuances and beautiful paintings on the walls, big oak doors leading into other rooms, and a staircase with a beautiful messing banister leading upstairs. We followed him upstairs, and all stopped in front of the first door on the right.
“Remus, this is your room, and Sirius is sleeping right next door” he said, and I felt my stomach rejoice. “Peter is sleeping right across the hall from Sirius, and I will take the room next to his”.
We all went to check out our rooms, and I had to admit that I was kind of impressed. The walls had a light blue shade to it, and again paintings decorated them beautifully. There was a closet, where I would be sure to put my clothes once the unpacking began, and a big bed that could easily fit two, if not three. I jumped on it and was glad to feel how comfortable it was.
I heard a slight knock on the door, and Sirius walked in. He smiled, and I felt my heartbeat increasing and the butterflies in my stomach.
“You know, I did miss you,” I said and he looked at me slightly surprised.
“I missed you too, but any particular reason for wanting me to know?” he asked.
“Well, you mentioned in the car that you hadn’t heard from me, and I just felt a bit guilty”.
“Don’t. It’s not like you heard from me either,” he said.
I nodded. “What did you want by the way?”
“Just to let you know that we are meeting out in the hall right about now” he said. “Oh, and of course to make sure your room wasn’t better than mine”.
I laughed, and with my hands I messed up his hair before we both rejoined the others once again. James nodded in greeting as he saw us, and smiled a devilish smile.
“Very impressive!” Sirius said.
“Yeah, sure is a nice house you got here” Peter agreed.
“Everything is amazing,” I said, and James smiled at us.
“Glad you like it. Now, let’s go check out what kind of food is in the kitchen, and prepare for an enjoyable evening in front of the fire” he said.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The supply of food was not overwhelming, but we did find some chicken, and made us some sandwiches with some dressing on the bred, and different kinds of vegetables for garnish on the side. I was actually a pretty good meal, and with some pumpkin juice it was almost like being back at Hogwarts. After using some cleaning spells we left the kitchen clean once again, and headed for the sitting room.
“Yeah, I know that wasn’t exactly a feast…”James began.
“Hey, don’t you worry about that. The food tasted very good, and the pumpkin juice made it even better” I assured him.
“Sure did” Sirius agreed, and we all sat down in front of the fireplace. “James, come play chess with me” he said with hope in his voice.
“Remus, would you please do it and get him of my back?” he begged me.
“Sorry mate, but you’re on your own. I will watch the game though,” I said.
James sighed, and heavily dropped into the chair opposite Sirius. I sat in a chair between them, and Peter had taken the chair opposite me. For a while I just sat there watching their game, but suddenly I felt the need to break the silence.
“So, any crazy plans for tomorrow?” I asked.
“Well, we need to go downtown to get some food, and I thought that having fun in the pool would be kind of cool, but that’s it” James answered.
“Sounds like fun,” said Peter, and all seemed to agree to that plan.
I went up to fetch a book I had brought, and read it as I was sitting in my chair, sometimes checking in on how the game was progressing. Looked as though Sirius would win, but one could never know with James. He was always very good at the game, and I knew that was the reason Sirius always wanted to play with him as opposed to Peter and me.
“Wow, 9 hours before the book was opened, that has got to be a new record!” Sirius said.
“Oh, would you shut up!” I groaned, not really liking the fact that he considered me to be a geek.
“Well, you could put down the book and talk to us” James said with a grin.
“Well, maybe when you are less preoccupied with playing chess” I said.
I ignored the heavy sighs and returned to the book. Unfortunately I had only read about 21 pages when I was interrupted once more. Sirius made a grunt as James announce his victorious “Chess mate”
“We are done now,” James said.
“Yeah, so now you have to put that book away” Sirius continued.
I did as I was told, and looked at my friends.
“So, when will it be full moon, and time for causing trouble?” asked Sirius.
“Wednesday next week” I said, a little amused at his anticipation.
“I can’t wait to examine this area together, just like we used to” James said.
“Well, I hope we get to scare some people. That was much easier at Hogwarts” Sirius complained.
“Naturally. What is a bit of fun if you can’t scare innocent people?” I asked sarcastically.
“You enjoyed it to, and you know it!” Sirius said offended.
“You were a marauder the same as the rest of us” James said.
“I know,” I said with a smile. “I was only joking”.
They laughed, and seemed to forgive my attempt at seeming more innocent than was actually the case.
“I think I will go off to bed,” James announced as the clock stroke midnight.
“Yeah, that actually sounds like a good idea,” I agreed, and got up from the chair.
We turned off the light, and walked upstairs to our rooms. We all bit each other goodnight, and closed the doors. I sat on my bed as the door slit open without any warning.
“Prongs?” I asked surprised.
“Yeah, can we talk for a moment” James asked.
“Sure. What is it?”
“Well, I don’t really know how to say this, so I’ll just be blunt. Do you need to talk about this thing you have for Sirius?” he said.
“I do not have a thing for him!” I said, trying to laugh as though it was the craziest thing I had ever heard.
“Please!” James retorted. “You so have a crush on him!”
“Look, you are wrong, and that is all there is to say about this ridiculous accusation” I said.
“It certainly is not!” James said.
“James, I don’t know where you got this crazy idea from, but this is officially the end of this discussion” I said angry.
“I know that I’m right, but I will let it be for now” he said, and walked out.
I put on my pyjamas, and crawled into bed. I could not believe he knew about my feelings. I made a promise to myself that the next day I would find some way to prove to him that he had indeed been wrong, and that he needed to forget about it.
