Wheels of Fate

~~~~~~~ Wheels of Fate ~~~~~~~
Getting up the next morning was very interesting for Draco, to say the least. The dreams he had last night had ranged from wet and wild to happy and content. As long as he could remember he'd never felt like this before. Stretching, Draco rolled out of bed. He frowned a bit at the state his body pillow was in and sighed. Whispering a cleansing spell to remove the cum, Draco said a silent prayer that the house elves wouldn't be able to tell what he'd done to the thing in his sleep.
Walking to his desk he took out a piece of parchment along with his ink well and quill. If Trelawney wanted what Harry wrote for the assignment then he'd give it to her and then some.
Gathering his thoughts, Draco wrote with as much detail as he could recall, exactly what transpired in his dreams. He was very graphic about it but left out Harry's name. Sitting back Draco admired his handy work but knew something was missing. Pursing his lips the Slytherin wondered what it was that he was overlooking. His eyes strayed to the scroll on his bed and it came to him.
* What about our life together?* he thought.
There was nothing about that in his scroll. Draco placed a drying spell on his paper then set it aside for later in a drawer out of sight. The assignment wasn't due until tomorrow so he could mull it over for now.
Draco knew from what Harry had written he wouldn't wish to live with Draco's parents in the manor. For that matter his parents wouldn't want him married to Potter either. Oh bother, this was going to be a mess.
Looking at the clock on the table, Draco figured that if he hurried he might have just enough time to catch his godfather before the man left for breakfast. Throwing on his crumpled clothes from the night before and ran all the way to his destination. The blond was about to knock when the Potions Master opened the door on his way out.
Severus was accustomed to seeing his godson outside his door at odd hours, however, he'd never seen the young man this out of sorts before and it had him worried. Stepping aside and holding the door open without commenting, Severus watched as a very disheveled Draco shot past him and into his private chambers like a scared rabbit.
Closing the door firmly behind him the older man turned and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Everything. Nothing. Oh gods I've really gone and done it this time." Draco replied as he started to pace.
"What have you done now, Draco?" Severus questioned with a forlorn sigh. If his godson was here then it meant it was something truly bad indeed.
Draco blurted out. "Something incredibly stupid! I've fallen in love, Sev. I'm going to get married but Father will disown me when he finds out who. I can't live without my love though. I won't! That means I'll have to get us a place to live. I have a job offer teaching here once I have finished this year and get certified. So I guess we could live here until we find a place but once the baby is born.-"
"Hold it!" Severus raised a hand to stop Draco from babbling further. "First of all sit down you're making me dizzy with all that pacing back and forth. Second..." he continued once his godson was settled down on the couch., "Breathe. You're going to hyperventilate if you don't come up for air.
He watched as the blond took several deep cleansing breaths. Once he was positive that Draco was calm enough to resume Severus began again. "Now try that again but this time a bit slower. Who's in love? Why is your father going to disown you and who's baby?"
Closing his eyes Draco slumped down against the back of the couch and tried again. "I'm in love. The baby, a girl, is mine or will be when she is born. We'll want to get married but Father will disown me once he finds out about us. More specifically who it is."
"Well unless you've fallen in love with Weasley or Potter, I don't believe your father will do that." Severus stated softly.
Draco bit his lip and looked away.
"Gods, Draco! Please tell me you aren't in love with Ronald Weasley." Severus just knew he was going to die of a stroke if the lad said yes.
"Eeeww! Hell NO!" the blond spat out. "That is gross."
"Well then if it isn't him-" Sev stopped as the other name he'd spoken registered into place. "It's Potter isn't it?" Not that he was surprised really. Hate and Love were only separated by a thin line after all.
"Yes," whimpered the young man from beside him almost miserably.
"You're right, your Father will disown you, but once you tell him he is about to be a grandfather he will forgive you. Now you said something about a position here?" The potion master prodded.
"History of Magic. Professor Binns wished to retire after this year. I'll be taking over for him at the start of the new school year," mumbled Draco.
"When are you getting married?"
"Today if I had my way about it, but with everything that's happening we will probably wait until after graduation." Draco mentally rattled his brain for answers. Parts of them were supplied by Harry's paper but most were out of his mouth before he even registered the question. He didn't understand it and wasn't really sure he wanted to but somehow they just seemed right once he'd said them.
"Then perhaps you'd like the cottage I have in Hogsmeade as a wedding gift?" Severus smirked at the shocked expression his accepting Potter and the marriage so easily.
"Really!?! You mean it?" Draco launched himself into his godfather's arms after Severus nodded yes.
"Harry will love it. I can't wait to tell him all about this. You're the best, Sev." Draco hugged Severus once more. He looked at the time. "I have to go. I have to finish some homework and get ready for breakfast. And, thank you, Sev, for everything. I knew you'd understand."
Severus frowned. It wasn't like Draco to wait until the last minute to finish anything. "Why are you finishing your homework now? Why not before?"
"Err..." Draco blushed scarlet.
Severus figured out why Draco was stammering and realized that he didn't want to know the details about his godson's love life. "Oh. Never mind then. I'll see you at breakfast."
Draco left and returned to his private room, one of the perks of being Head Boy. Quickly he retrieved the scroll from his desk and filled in all the things he'd just told his godfather. He went into detail about the cottage they were to live in and what flowers would bloom there. He even went as far as writing about their 50th wedding anniversary. Their lives wouldn't be easy but it would be heaven.
Now all he had to do was inform the Headmaster of his decision to take the position, get certified and somehow get Harry to realize that Draco loved him. After reading Harry's scroll that should be easy. Right?
~~~Later that day~~~ Draco's POV

"Mr. Malfoy, please come in and have a seat." the Headmaster requested.

I haven't been looking forward to this for some time now. I knew one day I would be facing off with one of the greatest wizards of all time. I just didn't know it would be like this. Walking across the room and sitting down, I realized just how big of a step I was about to make. Once done, I could never go back. There would be no second chances with my family nor the master. Yet that didn't scare me half as much as it should. No, what I feared came in the form of an elderly wizard with twinkling eyes and a long white beard who was known for always offering lemon drops.

"Lemon Drop?" the Headmaster held out a candy dish to me.

See what I mean. The action was supposed to relax the person, I suppose but I'd heard too many stories from my godfather not to be wise to that tactic. "No thank you." After all you were a fool to think that the old coot didn't have something in them to make you see things his way.

"Very well then. Now then. I received your owl this morning. What was it you needed to speak to me about?" he leaned back in his chair looking as if he hadn't a care in the world. I knew better.

Figuring the direct approach was best in this case I got right to the point. "I wish to formally request for the teaching certification we spoke about last time we met. That is if the offer is still open to take over Professor Binns' class."

Somehow I think he was surprised I took him up on that offer. He didn't say anything at first but then he smiled and said. "It is still open. I must say that I am curious to why the sudden change of heart. The last time we spoke you gave me the impression that you wanted nothing to do with teaching."

He didn't have to say what else that implied either. "It's complicated." And boy was it ever.

"I've been told I'm a great listener and I have time if you'd like to tell me about it, Draco." He almost seemed sincere while saying that. Almost.

"Actually I've already talked about it with Professor Snape. However, I probably should make you aware of some things. I will be getting married at the end of this year and we are expecting a baby. Right now it is too dangerous for us to be outside of Hogwarts and I'll do anything to protect my fiancee and baby." I just sat there and watched as yet again I managed to surprise him. I'll have to remember to tell Sev about this. He'd love to find out someone finally managed to get something past the old man at last.

His surprise wasn't shown in any facial expression or action. Only a mere twitch of his left eye my godfather had told me about years ago. "Well, I must say this is an unexpected turn of events. I assume the danger you speak of comes from your enemies."

Can you say understatement? "Among others yes. I'll be frank about this. My father will disown me as soon as I wed my fiancee. The second we say I do, I'll be a target on V-Voldermort's hit list or will be once word gets out who I've wed."

I now had the Headmaster's undivided attention. It wasn't very often someone dared to speak the Dark Lord's name out loud after all. I held up my hand when it looked as if he was about to ask a question. "I'm sorry Headmaster but please don't ask me who my fiancee is. The longer his name is kept secret the longer I have to make the arrangements we'll need before graduation."

"Actually Mr. Malfoy I was going to ask if you knew if the baby was a boy or a girl yet?" The twinkle in his eyes danced as he smiled.

I couldn't keep the smile off my face even if I wanted to, which I didn't. "A beautiful girl, sir."

"Ah, spoken like a proud papa." The Headmaster chuckled a little as he said that and then grew serious. "I won't ask for anymore then you're ready to tell me Draco, but I hope you realize that I'm here for you if you ever wish to chat."

For an old coot he was a good man. I could see why Severus was so fond of him. "Thank you, sir, that means a lot to me."

I headed out of the office and had made it to the door when he stopped me with one more question. "Oh, Draco?"

"Sir?"

"Have you come up with a name for the baby yet?" Dumbledore asked as he popped a lemon drop into his mouth.

"We kind of only just found out about her, sir. We haven't had time to think about it." And I hadn't had time to even ask Harry out yet much less get one of us pregnant but those were just meager details for now.
