Chapter 2

Disclaimer: Don’t own, not making profit, it just sucks, basically.

Just thought I’d tell you that when I’m talking about the older Sirius or Remus, I’ll put their name in bold eg:

Sirius
talked to Remus.
Got it?

"Sirius… I think I’ve found out some information on your… condition." James exclaimed suddenly. Madame Pince glared at him, and he instantly cringed, lowering his voice.
"It says something about mates here." He said. Remus looked up from the book he was reading, instantly interested.
"As in friends?" Sirius asked, rather stupidly. James rolled his eyes exasperatedly whilst Remus shot him a dark look.
"No, as in the mating kind of mate." James snapped, shoving the book over to his friend. Remus looked over Sirius’ shoulder as the older boy read.
"All elves have mates?" Sirius asked incredulously. James nodded solemnly.
"And if an elf doesn’t find their mate… then they basically live a life full of misery until their mate saves them." Remus added. Then his eyes widened and he gasped, looking at the book. James sighed.
"Their mates are normally ANGELS?!"

"Come in." A voice said. James pushed open the door to find Dumbledore sitting at his desk, a very grim expression on his face. James, Remus, Sirius and the seven new people walked in, looking around, their expressions stating they’d seen it before.
"My, my, what do we have here. There’s no chance that you could be the cause of a powerful surge of magic that raced through the castle walls earlier this evening, is there?" Dumbledore asked outright. James was surprised at Dumbledore’s forwardness, normally the old man worshipped riddles. A man who looked like Sirius, only older and less tanned looked at the old man and raised an eyebrow.
"Albus, how’ve you been?" He asked casually. Dumbledore looked slightly surprised and James shared a raised eyebrow look with Sirius, who merely shrugged, puzzled. Then again, when has Sirius never been puzzled?
"Excuse me for my bluntness, but I don’t believe I know you." Albus stated. Dumbledore was obviously just having a blunt day.
As they looked at Albus with shock, James took the opportunity to study the group. They actually all looked rather interesting. There were twins with red hair and blue eyes, and another boy who looked like them, only taller and thinner. A man who looked like Remus was studying the office again, a frown on his face, and the other who had been the first to speak up was outright gaping. The only girl in the group, with bushy brown hair and piercing brown eyes was chewing her bottom lip thoughtfully. But those weren’t the people that drew James. the boy who called to him looked just like him. Same messy black hair, same scrawny look, hell even the same face structure. But he had blinding emerald green eyes, so much like someone James knew…
"Hey, you there." James said suddenly, waving his hand at the look-alike. "You aren’t related to someone called Lily Evans, are you?" He asked. The boy paused for a moment, eyes wide, then opened his mouth to reply.
"Oh my word!" The girl suddenly exclaimed. James looked at her fascinated expression, very much like Remus when he figured out a hard question. One of the older men looked at her with a sharp expression and she refrained from saying anything.
"Gentlemen, I’m sure there’s a nice warm bed waiting for you back in your dormitories." Dumbledore announced, looking pointedly at Sirius, James and Remus. Sirius nodded, dragging the other two out.
Once they were gone, everyone looked at Hermione, who was still star-struck.
"We’re in the past." She said, quieter now.
"The what?"

-----

"Well, this has certainly been an eventful evening." Dumbledore said. Ron snorted in response and Harry rolled his eyes, yawning. They had spent half an hour in Dumbledore’s office after the old Headmaster had ushered the other three students Harry didn’t know out. Harry’s tongue was definitely aching after talking for so long.
"Well I believe, as you already know your houses, the only thing is to pick new names for you all." Dumbledore stated. Everyone blanched.
"Hmm, Miss Granger, I believe that you can keep your name, but the other’s cannot, at least not their last name and in Remus’ and Sirius’ case, not their first name either." Dumbledore continued.
And so that was how Harry had become Harry Phawkes (slightly named after Fawkes the Phoenix), Ron Fred and George had become the Burn’s. Sirius and Remus were cousins called Richard and Nick FulBlacks. Fred suddenly spoke up after a minute of silence, looking serious, something which was quite a feat. for any one of the twins.
"Headmaster, we were wondering… Well, we never did so well in our sixth year, and never actually took our N.E.W.T’s, and as there’s no joke shop for us to run…" Fred trailed off.
"Could we be accepted back into the sixth year?" George finished for Fred. There was a moment’s silence. Then Dumbledore spoke up.
"Yes, yes, I believe it’s best for you all to stay together. Remus, there’s an open position for Defence Against the Dark arts. James Potter decided it would be amusing to set our old Professor’s robes on pink fire that never burned out." He announced. Sirius smiled fondly.
"Ah yes, I remember that joke. Vessie broke down around dinner time and told us he quit before leaving the castle."
"Ah good times." Remus added. Hermione scowled whilst the twins looked at each other.
"Wicked." They said in unison, something Harry had got used to by then.
"What about Sirius, sir?" Remus asked suddenly. Dumbledore smiled serenely.
"Hmm, now that is a puzzle. There are no open positions at the school, but with the way the Marauders are going, there soon will be." He muttered. A loud bark interrupted all train of thought as everyone looked down at the large black dog that had suddenly replaced Sirius, who obviously no longer needed to use the new name appointed to him.
Dumbledore’s face lit up and he nodded, seeming not to have to say anything else.
"Now that we have this puzzle sorted, I must say off to bed with you all! I will announce your coming at breakfast tomorrow, and deliver trunks of supplied to you. And try not to say anything about the future to anyone if it can be helped." Dumbledore said. Everyone stood up, recognising the dismissal, and bid Dumbledore goodnight.
"The password’s Hogsmeade." He added as they all left. When the door closed, Dumbledore stood up, frowning thoughtfully. He stroked Fawkes, who gave a small trill.
"I have a feeling that there’s a reason they were sent here… I think that they were… almost meant to change the future."

----
"Wakey, wakey, rise and shine, it’s another beautiful day in sunny California." A voice cut through Harry’s pleasant dreams, and he groaned, blindly hitting out at whoever it was before turning his back to the offender. And he was in Britain, not bloody America.
"Fine, be that way, but it hurts Harry, it hurts deep!" Ah, it’s Fred. Harry thought sleepily. He made a rude motion involving a finger at Fred, who laughed.
"Well, who would have thought, the golden boy knows obscene gestures! This is so precious." Fred announced. Harry muffled something into his pillow.
"What was that Harry?"
"I said that if you know what’s good for you, you’d go away." He murmured before lapsing back into sleep, not hearing the sniggers of everyone watching.

------
"Well, well, well. sleeping beauty awakes." George announced as Harry walked down the stairs to the Gryffindor common room, fully dressed and still blurry eyed. He glared at George.
"Not so much a beauty now, is he?" Fred said as Harry sat down and kicked him, muttering something about stupid gits. He looked around, noticing the fact that James, Sirius and Remus were watching them, amused. Hermione was talking with Lily Evans, who looked just as Harry had seen her in the photographs. He smiled and yawned. There were two unfamiliar girls with them. One had red hair like Lily’s, only longer and darker while the other had midnight black hair and indigo blue eyes.
"Hello, I don’t think we’ve been introduced." Someone said. Harry jumped, turning his head to see Lily standing there, smiling. Harry nodded, cleared his throat and stuck out his hand.
"Harry po- Phawkes." He stated. Thankfully no-one picked up on the slip-up apart from Hermione, who gave him a disapproving glare.
"Hi, I’m Lily Evans. These are my friends Ciara and Xylia Major." Lily said, nodding towards the other girls. Harry frowned.
"I’m an adopted sister." Said Xylia, the girl with the black hair, catching Harry’s confusion. "Anyway, call me Lia. I’m pleased to meet you." Lia shook his hand, grinning mischievously. Harry was instantly put on his guard. Sirius, Fred and George had that look plastered on their faces several times. Harry pulled out his wand, hoping no-one else would see, and muttered a counter charm to anything the girl might do.
"Damn, how did you know?" Lia exclaimed. Harry just shrugged as Ciara rolled her eyes and grabbed a book before striding across the common room.
"If you don’t hurry, you’ll miss Dumbledore announcing your arrival, and you’ll miss the food." She called back to them before disappearing through the portrait hole. Lia turned back to Harry.
"Just ignore her. She’s a cold person, but she’ll warm up to you eventually… hopefully she’ll stop making jokes at me and make jokes at you instead."
"It’s a Saturday, we should be able to go down to breakfast whenever we want!" Sirius complained, pouting.
Harry felt a sudden very strange tug on his heart at the sight of Sirius. By the sudden stillness of the animagi, do did he. Harry quickly averted his gaze when Sirius looked at him, hoping no-one noticed. "I told you you’d find someone." A voice whispered in his ear. He turned his head slightly, wanting to know who it was. Damn voice. He thought when he saw no-one near enough to whisper in his ear.
Unfortunately, nothing slips the sharp eyes of Lily Evans and Hermione Granger.

"Hey Harry?" Harry looked up from Quidditch Through the Ages, meeting the questioning eyes of Hermione. He raised an eyebrow. Currently, he and Ron were sitting with Lily, Ciara and Lia. Fred and George had gone to find the room of requirements ‘To Study.’ And the marauders were sitting by the fire, occasionally shooting a glare at Harry and Ron, who were able to keep the girls laughing. Even Ciara’s lips tugged a bit as Ron had commented on Harry’s innocent oblivious out-take on life.
"I was just wandering… could I talk to you for a second?" Hermione asked. Harry nodded and stood up, chucking the book at Ron. It hit him on the head, causing him to yelp in pain and Lily to start giggling again. James glared at Harry.
"So, what is it?" Harry asked when they were away from the main groups of people. Hermione sighed and sat down on a couch, Harry sitting next to her.
"What was that?" She asked suddenly. Harry frowned. "Don’t give me that! I mean before breakfast! You and Sirius went really still when you looked over at him, and then he wouldn’t stop looking at you, and you wouldn’t stop looking at him! Ciara and Lily have noticed, too, so don’t deny it." Hermione hissed. Harry rolled his eyes.
Sometimes it was annoying to have a friend who picked up on anything and everything. It made breaking the rules a challenge, and being stupid was definitely a don’t with her.
He thought of the odd sensation he’d felt that morning, but it was gone and he couldn’t recall the feeling.
"Look, it was nothing, I just felt a weird pull when I looked at Sirius, but that’s all, I swear. Stop glaring at me, you’re scaring me!" He snapped back. Hermione intensified her glare, making Harry cringe.
"oh my god!" She exclaimed, causing most of the common room to look at her. Thankfully, most were outside enjoying the surprisingly warm day that had appeared in the middle of January, so it wasn’t that big a deal. Everyone went back to their work.
"Harry this is great!" Hermione squealed, quieter than before. She nearly crushed Harry when she hugged him. He looked at her with a curious expression.
"What’s great?" He asked. Hermione rolled her eyes and hit him upside the head.
"You’ve found your mate!" She said excitedly, her eyes shining. Hermione loved matchmaking. Harry stared at her with wide eyes.
"Look, Sirius isn’t my mate! I would have felt it around the older one if he was, anyway." Harry hissed. Hermione shook her head.
"Harry, this is almost an alternate dimension. Just by coming here, we’ve changed time. Remember that book where we found out about how your mate might be in a different dimension… a different world? Well, it also explained the reason why you wouldn’t have felt a pull towards someone anyway." Harry just stupidly at her. "It’s complicated, I’m not going to explain it to you right now, but as the Sirius we know was too old to be your mate, fate had to send you back to see the younger Sirius, which I think is the reason why we’re here! We have to tell Remus and Sirius!" She said. Harry shook his head quickly.
"Nuh-uh. We have to tell nobody! He might not even be my mate, and if he is, he never asked to be tied down, and I don’t think he likes me anyway. So long as we don’t tell anyone, rumours don’t spread, Sirius doesn’t here, and he doesn’t reject me, and I don’t die or go all cold or whatever. Okay?" Harry explained. Hermione sighed.
"Harry, it’s impossible not to like you. Sirius just pretends not to because James is jealous of the fact that you’re spending too much time with Lily today, making her laugh. And James doesn’t hate you either, I think he’s just mistrusting and is trying to find a reason not to like you. Please just tell him!" Hermione said. Harry sighed and stood up.
"I can’t, Hermione. I don’t even know him like this. I’m gonna go for a walk. Don’t you go telling anyone either, you hear? I’m sorry ‘Mione."
With that, he walked out of the common room, leaving Hermione to brood on what she had learned. She wouldn’t meddle, her friendship with Harry meant too much for her to ruin it.
But she had to talk him into accepting what fate had chosen.

"oi! Come back here you four eyed git!" Ron yelled, chasing after Harry. Hermione, Lia and Lily laughed as Harry stopped, waved Ron’s shirt about for a bit , then hung it over the lake. Ron froze, bare-chested and glaring at his best friend. Ciara rolled her eyes, not being able to hold back the smile that tugged at her lips as Harry grinned charmingly, making most of the girls watching him swoon in that way they did when James Potter smiled.
"Give me my shirt twat!" Ron exclaimed. He wasn’t cold, it was too nice a Sunday afternoon to be cold, but he was definitely annoyed. Harry stuck his tongue out playfully, then dropped the shirt into the lake. Ron growled and ran forward, tackling Harry. There was a loud splash, and everyone watched as the two boys landed in the lake, wrestling playfully.
Lily was clutching her ribs and tears streamed from Lia’s eyes as Harry ducked Ron and started swimming to the side. Just as the soaking boy was about to escape, Ron jumped up, grabbed his legs and pulled him back down.
"Oh my god! These boys will never learn!" Hermione gasped. Fred and George grinned at each other evilly.
"Reckon we should help out?"
"Nah."
Hermione rolled her eyes at them as best as she could when Harry scrambled out of the lake, clothes drenched, and waving Ron’s shirt around in triumph.
"Surrender, Ron." Harry demanded
"git!" Ron yelled, his trousers and hair dripping. Harry shrugged, screwed the shirt up into a ball, and flung it across the ground with an amazing amount of force.
"Fetch then." Harry mocked. Ron glared at him, sighed, then ran to where his shirt was as Harry sniggered, walking over to the girls and twins, who were all giggling, even Ciara, which surprised Harry.
"Loser!" He called across to Ron, who swore at him as he jogged back.
When Lily had got her self under control enough, she conjured towels for the two boys, who thanked her and wrapped themselves up in pre-heated material.
"Well, that was impressive." A voice commented. Harry looked up at Sirius, James and Remus, who were grinning.
"oh hey guys." Lia greeted. Ciara ignored them apart from shooting them a very dark look whilst she cleaned up her running mascara. She also shot the same look at the back of Ron’s and Harry’s heads.
James and Sirius sighed, then collapsed on the ground next to the group, Remus siting down more gracefully afterwards.
"Harry, I think we got off on the wrong foot." James stated as everyone around them went back into their conversations. Harry’s heart lifted into his throat when his father stretched out his hand.
"James Potter, actually pleased to meet you. I won’t hate you unless you steal Evans." He said. Harry rolled his eyes, but shook James’ hand anyway.
"Harry Phawkes, the pleasure’s mine. I don’t believe Evan’s is anyone’s to steal, but I won’t, in any case." He stated. James smiled slightly as Sirius entered the conversation.
"So, Harry, you don’t play quidditch, by any chance?" He asked. Harry blinked, then nodded thoroughly. Sirius smirked, slightly amused by Harry’s obvious enthusiasm.
"Great, what position do you play? I’m a beater and Jim-jam here’s a chaser."
"Don’t call me that!" James exclaimed, but Sirius ignored him.
"Oh, I play seeker." Harry’s heart was dancing in merry circles at the fact that Sirius was talking to him, and smiling at him in a dazzling way.
Stop it! I sound like a girl with a crush.

okay, I know this all seems to happen a bit fast, and I’m sooo sorry, but I’ll try to calm it down. Harry and Sirius won’t get together till later, so sorry. My plan is that an eavesdropper eventually finds out and spreads the word… perhaps Rita Skeeter.
