Actually this WAS a one-shot.

Two months later the Wizarding media of Great Britain was calling for Harry Potter. Every article in the papers pleaded with the Savior of the Wizarding World to come and deal with the newest Dark Lord.
Ron and Hermione Weasley were sitting in the Leaky Cauldron with some of their old schoolmates. The redhead complained, "I don't understand why Harry hasn't shown up. He's got to help take this madman down." Most of the others agreed with Ron, but to their surprise Neville Longbottom asked bluntly, "Why is it Harry's problem? Is everyone going to hide behind trees and walls again? Expecting him to do what they don't have the guts to?"
Michael Corner frowned, "But it's Potter's job to defeat the Dark Lord." The once shy Gryffindor snorted, "Wrong! It was Harry's duty to defeat Voldemort. No one ever said anything about the NEXT Dark Lord."
Padma shuddered, "He's just got to. Did you see what the current Dark Lord did to Umbridge? I hear that she was left with a scar on her hand... and then he had a werewolf bite her."
At the word 'werewolf', Neville burst out laughing. "Good! Couldn't happen to a bigger bitch!"
Hermione finally said, "I know Harry will come back. He won't leave us to suffer under the heel of a new 'Voldemort'."
Neville finally withdrew a parchment from his pocket. "Let me read something to all of you. I got it about two months ago.

My dear friend,
As you were one of the few who supported us through everything, I thought it only fitting to tell you that Remus is dying. He's been on a steady decline over the past several years, and my instinct tells me that it won't be long now.
Neville, when Remy dies, I have a potion set aside so that I may join those I love on the other side. Please don't think that there was anything more you could have done. I deeply respect the devotion you've shown me, but the Ministry turning its back on us, and our so-called friends doing the same, when we had done so much for them, was the last straw.
They chose to forget the sacrifices made, and have delegated my beloved Remy as nothing better than a dangerous animal. You and I both know that in over 40 years of lycanthropy, he had never bitten anyone.
As for me, once Voldemort had been put down, neither Dumbledore, the Ministry, nor the Wizarding World could find it within themselves to help the 'child' whose life they wasted.
I am asking you not to share this with anyone until you have received information regarding my death.
