Chapter 2: House Elf Entourage

“Enlighten me Granger; we are going to be living in close quarters for the next month and a half.” Draco Challenged.

“Malfoy this flat is rather large, but I guess that anything with less than fifteen bedrooms is close quarters for you, “ she countered and Draco looked like he was going to make a snide comment but a look from Hermione kept him in check.

“Well let’s see, you already know that I smoke. I also have a fondness for firewiskey sours, all things chocolate, and I’ve a love hate relationship with my cat. I started pushing myself when I was very young in an attempt to garner the attention of my workaholic parents; as a result I am harder on myself than anyone else.” She told him.

“I’ve always thought that you push yourself too hard,” he replied.

“Yes, but until recently you would have been happy to see me burn out,” she pointed out.

“Too right.” He said handing her back her cigarette. “But, you’re growing on me.”

They both turned when they heard a key in the lock and the door opening. Blaise strode through the door like he owned the place; an entourage of elves in his wake.

“Granger, Draco,” he said in greeting.

Crossing the room to stand beside Draco, Blaise , in one fluid motion, took Hermione’s free hand, kissed it, took the cigarette out of her other hand, took a drag, put it back and nodded, “thanks!”

Hermione took that opportunity to study the two Slytherin princes side by side and was struck by the fact that they truly were ying and yang, Draco all in all his pale blonde glory, and Blaise literally the embodiment of tall dark and handsome. They stood about the same height though Draco was a bit more substantial due to Quidditch.

Draco and Hermione showed Blaise to his room such as it was and after taking one look he declared he would not be sleeping in there.

“Where are you going to sleep?” Hermione asked.

A look passed between the two boys and they said in perfect unison, “on the couch.”

“I’m a bit claustrophobic,” Blaise continued.

She cocked her head skeptically and said, “Okay, but you better wear underwear to bed. I tend to get up frequently in the middle of the night.”

“Absolutely,” he assured her.

They all decided that the room was the perfect size for a walk in closet, and working together, transfigured it. The boys got the elves started on their unpacking and Hermione decided that as she was already unpacked the a long run would be great.

“Guys, I’m going for a run in the park, we haven’t bought groceries yet so why don’t we go to the Cauldron for dinner when I get back?” She said coming back out of her room after changing into running attire.

She walked to the Leaky Cauldron and went out the other side into Muggle London headed for the Underground station. She took the tube as close to Hyde Park as it would get her and then started jogging once she reached street level. She had her Ipod strapped to one arm and a mix of Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Dido and many others was her playlist of choice that day.

When she reached the park she started down one of the paths and picked up the pace, she pushed herself as much physically as she did academically. All the trees, grass, and people were a nice change from her parent’s treadmill. She circled the park until she figured she had run about five miles, decided that it was good enough for the day, and headed back to the tube station.

When she arrived back at the flat she took the stairs two at a time and let herself in. No one was home and all of the boys’ possessions were unpacked so she figured they had gone out, and headed for the shower. She heard them come home while she was in the shower, and when she got out the flat was filled with the most wonderful smells, making her very empty stomach rumble with anticipation.

“It’s our first night in our own place and Blaise is an amazing cook so we decided a celebratory meal was in order,” Draco said handing Hermione a glass of wine as she came out of her room, hair still wet from her shower.

“Well, it smells divine,” she admitted, taking the glass and smelling the wine appreciatively, “and so does this,” and she took a sip.

They all sat down to a meal of spinach lasagna, foccocia garlic bread, and Caesar Salad, and it was as good as Draco had professed it to be. With the benefit of a full stomach and several glasses of wine, Hermione’s eyelids began to droop and she decided to call it a night. She changed into shorts and a tank top and crawled into bed. She was awoken sometime later to hear some kind of thumping sound, but was too groggy to register the fact that it was the sound of a head board thumping against a wall, and she quickly fell back to sleep.
