Love or Lust?

~Chapter Two~


Sleep seemed to fail Hermione that night as she weeped into her now rather soggy pillow.She could not beleave how uncaring and cold Snape had been to her,when just a few week\'s ago he was quite the opposite.She remembered how gentle he had been with her when they made love,and how he held her in his arms for hours afterward.She knew it was not beyond him to be so cold,but at the same the time she had expected things to be a bit diffrent then in her previous years.As the daylight seemed to seep in through her windows she new that it was time to get ready for her classes,as she tiredly slipped on her robes, and headed towards advanced Charms.

During the class period she managed to set a desk on fire,which caused everyone to stare at the girl who usually did everything perfect,in complete shock.Hermione\'s other classes went much the same way,usually causing some sort of catastrophe that made everyone turn there heads in disbelief.After spending most of her time in the bathroom during lunch,feeling even more nauseous then the prevous night,she headed towards he Defense agianst the Dark Arts class.She did not know if the reason why she was constantly sick was because of everything that was happening or that she was actually coming down with something.As she stood outside the classroom she wondered if Lupin would still be teaching the class today.She wondered if Snape had merely come back here early to have his honeymoon in his own bed,as the thought turned her stomach even more.

As Hermione opened the door to the classroom nervously,she noticed Lupin standing at the front of the class,as she smiled to herself.She quickly sat next to Ron and Harry,as they stared at her curiously.They thought that she did look alot better than she did last night but still rather disconnected,as she merely sat there not saying a word to either of them.As the class began Hermione was paying very close attention and even acted like her normal self,by raising her hand and answering a few of the questions.Hermione was rather pleased with herself and managed to use LocomoterMortis on Harry,causing his legs to freeze in place,without causing any damage to him or the room.

After class,Hermione had the rest of the day free to do as she wished,as she began to leave the classroom with the others.As Her,Harry and Ron began to walk out the door,Lupin called Hermione towards his desk and told Harry and Ron to wait outside.Hermione was in complete shock!I mean what could he want to talk to her about?It was known that Harry and Lupin were somewhat friends because of Black and his father,but what could he possibly want to say to her?As Hermione walked towards his desk nervously,which was an emotion she seemed to feel alot lately,he gestured for Hermione to have a seat.Hermione merely stared at him curiously,sitting across from him,as he folded his hands into his lap.

\"Hermione I need to talk to you about something.Im sorry I asked Harry and Ron to leave,but I don\'t beleave that you wanted them to hear this.\"Lupin states looking a bit more serious than usuall as Hermione stares at him nervously.*Oh Merlin he knows!How does he know!*Hermione thinks clutching her hands agian as he stares at her.

\"I took the liberty of assigning you to a college course in this subject by owl,so you need not attend this class anymore.Of course if you do still wish to attend this class you realize that Professor Snape will be teaching it for the rest of term...\"He states staring at her rather sternly,as she feels as if she is going to faint.

\"I....that is....so what if he is teaching the class....why should that matter?\"Hermione states stuttering,as he stares at her.

\"I overheard your conversation with the Professor last night.Trust me Hermione i was not trying to intrude on something so private,as i was about to speak with him about the subject matter of the classes.I will not tell Harry or Ron so do not worry about that,Im only thinking about your state of mind and health Hermione.I hope that you understand im doing this for your own good.\"Lupin states concerned as she stares at him nervously.

\"Will the Professor be fired?Will i be expelled?\"She asks nervously as he smiles warmly at her.

\"You don\'t have to worry about any of that.From what i overheard this did not take place at school,so he nor you could not really get in any trouble over it.If it did ever happen at the school however,Im sure someone would report it if they found out.I will not be here for much longer and even though Snape seems to be married,I would not want to find out that anything like that has happened.I used to go to school with him and I know how how fast his actions on certain things can change.I would suggest staying as far from him as you possibly can,even though you may harbor feelings for him.\"Lupin states reaching across the desk and patting her kindly on the shoulder.Hermione nods sadly knowing that Lupin has the right idea about things,but still she cannot help but feel as if she wants to run into Snape\'s arms.

\"I understand Professor Lupin...not to say that it won\'t be hard trying to stay away from him.\"She states sadly,as he nods his head knowingly.

\"I know Hermione but you must try and please call me Reamus.\"He states smiling,as she nods at him,attempting to smile a bit.

\"Now Hermione if you need to speak with me at anytime i will be staying at Grimmauld Place,you can send an owl to me there.Feel free to owl me about anything,I will tell no one what you say.I realize that you probably need someone to talk to about these things and I always have an open ear for a friend.\"Lupin states as she smiles warmly at him,realizing why Harry is such good friends with him.

\"Thank you Professor,I will keep that in mind.\"Hermione states as he stands up walking towards her.

\"You can go now Hermione.Im sure Ron and Harry will ask what I spoke with you about...just tell them it was about your college course.\"Lupin states patting her on the back as Hermione stands up and begins to leave the room.

\"Oh and Hermione!I would pay a bit more attention to Ron,he seems to be quite fond of you and he is a very nice chap.I beleave that he would treat you with the respect you deserve and you do deserve it Hermione.\"Lupin states smiling warmly as Hermione nods her head and leaves out the door.

Over the next few weeks Hermione took Lupin\'s advice and tried to stay as far away from Snape and his snooty wife as much as possible.Instead she spent time with Harry and Ron and concentrated on her studies,which was what she did before all of this happened.That was not to say that she did not still think of Snape constantly,or did not spend almost everyday pukeing in the bathroom.She did not know if it was the thought of everything that had happened that made her sick,but she did not wish to go to the hospital wing over a case of a broken heart.She wrote Lupin a few times,telling him her thoughts about Snape,that were\'nt to lude.She wrote about her sickness and how she could not stop thinking about him,as he urged her to keep a level headed mind and possibly go to the hospital wing.

As Hermione read one of Lupins letters about how he would be going away for awhile on Order bussiness,she could not help but feel a bit hysterical.*Who will I talk to about my problems?What am I going to do if I get the urge to go down to the dungeons?*As these thoughts filled Hermione\'s head,she decided to put the letter away in her dresser,and go to the library to get her mind of things.Hermione grabbed her head girl badge,as it was late at night.Unless you were a prefect or head girl or boy,she knew that you could not be out after hours.Hermione pinned the badge on her robes,as she headed down the stairs towards the library.

As she opened the doors she noticed that there was not a soul to be seen,as she grabbed a book off the shelf,and sat down at one of the tables.As she read about diffrent curses and spells,she could hear a clicking noise agianst the marble floor.She looked around curiously as the noise grew louder,but returned to her book figuring that it was possibly a teacher or prefect.As she looked up she did notice that it was a Professor,a certain Professor that she had been ignoring for quite awhile.As Professor Snape peered into the book shelf near her,seeming not to realize she was even there,her body began to tremble.Hermione did not know if this was out of nervousness or joy,as she stared at him seeming completly frozen.Snape glanced over at her for a moment,then he seemed to turn towards her,as he walked up to her desk.

Hermione did not know what to do or say.Here he was,the man whom she could not help to think about,even though she was avoiding him.Snape glared at her for a moment,then sat down across from her,as a gasp seemed to come out of her mouth.He did not seem to notice this however,as he casually looked towards her book,then back at her with a cold gaze.

\"Decided to leave my class and take a college course,Granger?I suppose with past events taken into account I could understand that.However...I thought you were stronger than resorting to actually removing yourself from me entirely....but i suppose i was wrong.\"He states with a snarky tone,as she stares at him with a complete loss for words.What could she say to him that would affect him!He seemd to be impervous to everything that came out of her mouth,as she stared at him blankly.

\"I did what I had to.Im sure you understand this...seeing as you were not strong enough to tell me you had gotten married.Instead you just did it and had Dumbledore tell everyone the news.You have no room to talk to me about being strong,at least i confronted you and did not hide behind Dumbledore\'s robes!\"Hermione states angerly seeing the irritation on Snape\'s face,as she smile to herself.

\"How dare you talk to me that way,Granger!You do not even realize what I am going through at this moment in time.I followed you here tonight Miss Granger and I wished to speak with you about something,but no little know it all is going to speak to me in such a tone!\"He states shouting a bit as he glares at her.Hermione glares at him also but can not help but seem curious,at what he wanted to speak with her about.

\"If you want me to say Im sorry just forget it!If you still want to tell me whatever it is that made you follow me here go ahead,but don\'t be upset if i don\'t seem interested.\"Hermione states as he scowls at her.He sits there for a moment just glaring at her,as he finally decides to open his mouth.

\"It is quite complicated Miss Granger and I can not tell you everything that is going on,but I trust that you will say nothing to anyone about this,even to your pen pal Mr.Lupin.\"He states as she stares at him in shock.

\"How did you know I was writing to Lupin?\"Hermione asks curiously as he glares at her.

\"I knew he was around the cornor listening to us that night and I also know his demenor.I knew he could do nothing of are affair as long as it was outside of the school.I also knew the sap would ask for you to write him any time you needed someone to talk to....typical Lupin.\"Snape states sighing,as Hermione stares at him curiously.

\"I don\'t understand?\"Hermione states a bit confused,as he sighs a bit irritated.

\"I had to make it seem as if i had no interest in you and that I was content with my marriage.Of course I have not been able to discuss this with you,as you have seemed to be hiding from me.\"He states a bit upset as she stares at him in shock.

\"If you still have interest in me...why are you married?\"Hermione asks curiously as he stares at her tiredly.

\"Im not married Miss Granger....Hermione.It is an act...I can not tell you what is going on.For the time being we must act as student and teacher,until I finish what I am doing.Tell no one what I have said to you,otherwise I do not beleave you will be seeing much of me ever agian.\"Snape states sternly,as she can not help but wonder what it is exactly that he is doing,but at the same time seems very happy he still has feelings for her.

\"I won\'t tell anyone.\"Hermione states holding his hand,as he pulls away.

\"I don\'t want anyone catching us doing that,the consequences would be catastrophic.I shall talk to you later Hermione.....Miss Granger.\"He states leaving his seat and rushing out of the library.

Hermione can\'t help but feel like she is soaring,as her heart feels like it is in the right place in her chest once more.As she stands up and puts away her book to head to her chambers for the night,she begins to become nauseated yet agian.She can not understand why,as she was not feeling nervous or upset,at the moment.Hermione leaned agianst the book shelf for a moment trying to catch her breath,as her body began to tremble and she felt a bit faint.*What is going on?*She thought as she felt an overwhelming pain in her stomach.She tried to bare through it like she normally did,but the pain seemed to be to much for her this time.As she finally composed herself enough to walk,she decided to take Lupin\'s advice and head towards the hospital wing.
