A story to be told.

The afternoon passed by quickly enough, Harry and Ron finally completing their essays for Professor Snape. Ron was stretched out in one of the chairs closest to the fireplace while Harry lay on his back on the rug, close to Ron’s seat.

“Whatdya’ reckon Hermione’s up to?” Ron said after a long stretch of silence.

“Dunno’. It‘s not like we should really worry. She might want some alone time.” Harry replied, moving his arms so that his head rested against them. “Anyways, why do you keep asking that? You haven’t shut up about it since I brought it up this afternoon.”

Ron’s ears turned a bit pinker after Harry said this. “I’m just curious. She’s never really done this before, you know?”

“I suppose you’re right. Maybe we should get Ginny to find out for us.” The raven haired boy said slowly, propping himself up on his elbows. “Oi, Ginny!”

A younger girl that resembled Ron with her hair and freckles looked their way. “What is it, Harry?”

“C’mere for a second.” Harry called out to her, sitting all the way up and causing his dark hair to fall over his face messily.

Ron watched as his sister bounded up to them in her usual, cheery manner. “What was it that you wanted?”

“We want you to go check and see if Hermione is in her dormitory. She hasn’t been down here all day and we think something might be wrong with her.” Harry said to her, waving his hand over to the girls rooms.

“Oh, alright then.” Ginny replied. “I’ll check up on her then.” With that, the red head turned on heel and walked up to the staircase, leading to the girls dormitories.

Ginny rolled her eyes as she turned her back to Harry and Ron. Boys didn’t know anything about girls. Sometimes, they needed space from annoying guys like them. But at least Hermione has guys that care about her, Ginny thought to herself. Especially with Harry being one of them. Ginny flushed a dark red color when she caught herself thinking that.

Shaking her head vigorously, her red locks swaying at the movement, she reached Hermione’s room. She reached out, taking the cool doorknob in her hand and turned it slowly, pushing the wooden door open.

It was dim inside of the room; and quiet. At first, Ginny thought that no one was in there and was about to turn around and walk out when something dark on the window caught her eye, showing out against the white from outside. She walked through the dark room towards the window, where snow could be seen flying past the glass. The younger girl was curious to know what was on the window and she leant forward a bit to get a better look.

Her eyes widened in horror when she realized what the dark, red stain on the glass was. She covered her mouth with her hand, bile rising up in the back of her throat. She stumbled backwards and tripped over the rug, landing on her backside with a thump.

“Ow…” Ginny winched, leaning over to push herself back up to her feet when she felt something beside her on the floor; something that shouldn‘t be there. With a start, Ginny, reached for her wand inside of her robes.

“L-- Lumos!” She cried, holding her wand in front of her.

The light from the wand was minimum, but it was enough to see what lay before her on the floor. The body of a girl lay there, one blood covered arm stretched out in front of her. She was face down, brown curls cascading down her back and onto the floor. Spots of blood stained the carpet a dark color and Ginny turned her head to the side, becoming sick.

After a moment of catching her breath, Ginny glanced over towards the girl that she knew.

“Her… Hermione?” Ginny whispered, reaching out a shaking had to shake the girl on the shoulder.

“Hn…” A small groan came from the fourth year and Ginny gasped in relief.

“Hermione!” Ginny got up, moving to the older girl then, gripping her by the shoulders, heaved her up. She half dragged Hermione onto her bed, then sat down by her, still trying to support her so that she wouldn’t fall off.

==============================================================

Hermione felt groggy, disoriented. What had happened? The last thing she remembered was the blinding white of outside, then the sudden darkness that had descended upon her. She felt cold, and shuddered involuntarily, feeling warm hands on her stiff shoulders. She was pulled upwards off of the floor and was placed on her bed where she sat, trying to recover her senses.

Finally, after a moment, she opened her eyes slowly. Everything was unfocused, the walls were spinning. She felt like she was going to be sick. Leaning over the side of her bed in case she did throw up, she pulled her hair back with her hands and realized they were covered in something…

Blood. She threw up, remembering what she’d done to herself. The blood that dripped from her cuts, the want, the need and desire to hurt herself to get rid of her emotional pain. All of it flooded back to her at once, and she shivered again.

“Hermione…?” Someone said beside her, but the voice sounded distant.

The fourth year turned her head to look at the person sitting next to her, and gasped when she saw Ginny, pale faced and wide eyes.

“Ginny…” Hermione whispered, suddenly terrified. “Ginny, please… don’t tell anyone about this, please..”

The girl just stared at her, opened her mouth to say something, then stopped, then tried again. “Hermione… what did you do to yourself?”

“I…” Hermione trailed off, unable to say what she did to herself.

“Why’d you cut your arms like that..?” Ginny said, pointing to the older girls arms and Hermione looked down at her blood caked arms.

“I… Ginny, you wouldn’t understand…”

“I would if you told me.”

Hermione stared at Ginny for a moment. “Ginny, will you please keep this a secret? I’ll tell you everything, just please, don’t mention anything, any of this, to anyone?”

The girl nodded, placing a hand on Hermione’s shoulder. “I’m listening.” She whispered.

Taking in a deep breath, the brown haired girl began. “Ginny… I.. I’m in love with your brother…”

==============================================================

Ron was getting impatient, waiting for Ginny to come back, possibly with Hermione. Harry seemed unaffected, and had drifted off to sleep, laying spread out on the floor in front of the fire.

What is Hermione doing…? Ron questioned himself. Then Ron slapped himself hard across the face. What had gotten into him recently? He was constantly asking about Hermione, always having her on his mind. Was he starting to get more feelings for her than he realized? No, Ron told himself, she’s just a friend.. A really, really good friend.

His mind drifted off again, thinking about Hermione, with her long, curly brown hair, her chocolate colored eyes, the perfect shape of her body, the way she smiled at him…
