Chapter 2
Title: It Seems To Be
Author: S. A. Rodriguez
Rating: NC-17 (over all)
Warnings: Not quite.
Summary: Draco Malfoy is the only Malfoy left when his parents and his wife are both murdered. When Harry Potter is sent to lead the investigation, strange things begin to occur. While the Ministry still thinks Malfoy is evil, Harry knows better. He knows that Draco is the real saviour.
Disclaimer: I\'m still poor!
Beta: The impeccable Becks!
Author Notes: I’m still feeling a bit muddy. It explains why my writing is so bloody awful. In this SHORT chapter, we find out a bit more about what Draco has been hiding all these years. Then something totally unforeseen happens. GASP!
Ps: It really is short. But I wanted to let it sink in a bit before I drop the bomb ;)
After hours of preliminary investigation, some people in the squad were still skeptical. For some reason, it all seemed like a likely story to them. Draco Malfoy had gone missing for months, and suddenly his entire family was dead with no magical signatures in the house? When asked to produce his wand, Malfoy replied that he didn’t own one. Harry was sent back to the manor to ask more questions.
-
Draco was resting in a chaise lounge wearing a muggle suit of navy blue. He still looked horribly tired and skeletal, but the bruises from the previous day had been healed. Bone thin hands were hidden under heavy leather gloves, but he still held his cigarette elegantly between his fingers. He was immaculately dressed in the early afternoon for what seemed to be no reason.
Harry shifted in his stiff chair, he was uncomfortable and felt underdressed, which made him think he was going mad. What kind of man dresses up for an interview? He tried to clear his head as he took out his notebook and quill, ready for his questioning.
“Why don’t you have your wand, Malfoy? Did something happen to it?” Harry was manually taking down notes in order to keep his eyes occupied. No matter how destroyed he seemed, Malfoy was still hauntingly beautiful. Harry quickly stifled his thoughts and waited for a response.
“I snapped it before the attack. I knew that my father would try and force me to fight, but without a wand there wasn’t much I could do to help the old cause, was there? He made me try other wands, but nothing would work for me. I settled for a life without using magic. No one was allowed to say anything, of course. Alexandra never would have married me if she knew, and then we couldn’t have that.”
Harry’s face went red. This was the last thing he expected to find out. Malfoy lived without using magic? He lived as a muggle? Harry felt like laughing, but kept his mouth shut and his face calm.
“Ahem. I see. That will quickly clear you with the Ministry. There was suspicion about foul play, seeing as a muggle weapon was used for the killings. They thought some dark magic had been involved. But without a wand you could hardly Imperio anyone.” As he finished speaking, Harry looked up at the other man in the room and noticed his face lose any colour it could have held. “Is something wrong Malfoy?”
Draco’s cigarette fell from his limp fingers and landed on the floor. At the word ‘Imperio,’ his face went ashen. His eyes rolled into the back of his head and his emaciated body fell from the chair.
Harry rushed to his side, quickly stamping out the lit cigarette before it could start a fire. He pressed his fingers to the soft skin of Draco’s neck and felt for a pulse. After finding a fluttering, weak heartbeat, he screamed out to an Auror standing guard outside the door.
“Take him to St. Mungos, quickly! He CANNOT die! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!” Harry bellowed at the rather anonymous guard. “I’m going back to the Ministry and I’ll be there within the hour. Send word to my office if anything happens that I should be aware of. DO NOT LET HIM DIE.”
