CHAPTER 02 : I like you. Do you like me? Check Y or N

For the last hour, Professor Severus Snape, feared bat of the dungeon and potions master extraordinaire, had been pacing the classroom floor. As time had gotten closer and closer for detention with Hermione, he realized he had no clue as to what he would say or do.

It was all quite frightening for him really. How does one go about expressing their feelings? he thought.

In the summer before Hermione’s seventh year, the summer in which Potter defeated the Dark Lord; Professor Snape had taken some notice of Miss Granger. With insistence from the Headmaster, she had helped him with potions that would weaken the Dark Lord.

The Dark Lord may have been a powerful wizard, but he was no potions master, thought Severus.

With help from Hermione, Severus had created a three-part, odorless and tasteless potion that the Dark Lord unknowingly ingested over the course of a week just before the final battle with Potter.

While they were working on the potion, though, Severus grew accustomed to Hermione’s presence. She didn’t pester him with a million questions, just ones that were pertinent in solving their dilemma.

Of course, at first Severus had been snarky in his replies to Hermione’s questions, but he noticed that she wasn’t affected by his attitude. In fact, he could have sworn that she was amused. She didn’t outright smile, but he could see it in her eyes. It was a faint twinkle - a carefully, and mostly, hidden version of the Headmaster’s.

After a while, Severus dropped most of his snarkcasm while they worked.

Why put in the effort if it does not achieve the desired effect? He had thought. Also, he realized they were working towards the same goal, and that was more important.

Besides, being that there were no witnesses other than Miss Granger, I could always deny that I was anything less than my usual Snarkiness, thought Severus.

Severus and Hermione usually took lunch together in the lab at Grimmauld Place, courtesy of Molly Weasley, and had discussions on the progress of the potion. It was fascinating to Severus to engage Hermione in debates over which ingredients to use and in what combinations.

He liked this Miss Granger - the one he got to know outside of the classroom. She was intelligent and quick of wit, and she seemed to actually enjoy herself in Severus’s presence. She was never in a hurry to run off with her friends when their workday was completed, and had often asked if they could continue their discussions until dinner was ready. In a word, she was . . . pleasant.

Then it happened, the final battle. Thankfully the Order was well prepared with the intelligence they received from Severus and other members, and they had few casualties and almost no deaths.

When the dust had settled and Voldemort had been killed, Severus found himself near Hermione. He had just eliminated a Death Eater that had taken aim on Hermione.

She ran up to Severus and threw her arms around him. “We did it Professor!” she had happily exclaimed.

Eyes moist with unshed tears of joy and covered from head to toe in soot, dirt, and the occasional cut, Hermione was more beautiful to him than anything else in the world.

Neither of them seemed to want to break the connection they shared. And just as Severus found himself slightly tilting his head to place a kiss upon Hermione, the Boy Wonder and friend came rushing up to Hermione in triumphant glee and swept her away.

And with that, Hermione was gone.

Hermione, Severus had heard, was spending only a few days at the Burrow and then would spend the rest of the time with her parents.

As for himself, it was almost time to start school again, and so Severus was wrapped up in preparations; there were classes to plan for and potions to restock. Just three more weeks and the place would be crawling with a fresh batch of dunderheads.

In that time, Severus had successfully convinced himself that it was for the best for him to distance himself from Hermione, that she would never see him as anything other than a cantankerous old man.

Now, though, he realized Hermione did have feelings for him.

After two months of seeing and hearing her do that in his class, it was hard not to notice how he affected her.

Actually, it was more hearing than seeing what Hermione did since she was always covered by her robe. That will be the first thing to correct, thought Severus.

Severus wanted so badly to tell her about his feelings for her, but was completely lost on how to do so, which is why he has been pacing the floor of the classroom for the past hour.

Severus was growing more and more frustrated in his own whirlwind of thoughts when suddenly there was a knock on the door. He raced over to his seat and composed himself with a look of cool nonchalance.

“Enter.” he curtly replied to the knock.

“Ah, Miss Granger, so nice of you to grace this detention with your presence,” Professor Snape said in a bored manner. “Had you shown up at the correct time, it would have been better for you.”

Hermione shifted nervously. “I’m sorry Pro . . .”

“No talking, Miss Granger. I did not ask you a question which means I do not require, nor do I wish to hear, any excuses from you. Do I make myself clear?”

Hermione nodded quickly.

Professor Snape rolled his eyes. “You may speak when asked a direct question.”

“Yes, sir. I understand.”

“Good.”

Hermione grabbed her book bag from the where she had placed it when she came in.

“You may leave that. You won’t be needing your books tonight.”

Hermione dropped her book bag back down in front of Professor Snape’s desk and stood waiting.

“Since you were one minute late, I will only take off ten points.”

Severus arched a brow to Hermione to see if she would object.

“Thank you, sir, that is very generous,” was her only reply.

Ah ha! thought Severus. There is that glimmer of a twinkle. I wonder what had her so nervous when she arrived? Possibly because she’s never had detention with me and has no doubt been informed about what to expect, Severus thought to himself.

Severus stood from behind his desk and glided around behind Hermione and whispered in her ear, “Now, what shall we do for your . . . Punishment?”

Hermione gulped audibly and Severus quirked his lips into a half smile.

Hermione then turned around to face him and brushed up against him from their close proximity. She nearly moaned from the contact and Severus had to stifle a quick intake of breath.

Realizing that they are once again becoming lost in each others eyes, like so long ago, Severus backed away towards the first row of desks and looked towards the sink. “I think cleaning those stacks of cauldrons without magic will do for a start. You will need to remove your robe, otherwise, your sleeves will be sopping wet before you finish the first one,” Severus stated.

Hermione froze.

“Well, go on. We haven’t all night,” said Severus agitated.

Panicking, Hermione pleaded, “No, really, Professor. I don’t mind.”

“Do not argue Miss Granger. Now do as I say and get to work.”

Hermione took out her wand and said the counter charm for keeping her robe closed. She then removed the robe and laid it on top of her book bag.

“Well, well. It seems the house elves were a little enthusiastic in their cleaning and shrank your clothes, Miss Granger.” Severus smirked. “Or is it, perhaps, that you are trying to seduce me?” said Severus with a raised eyebrow.

“N-no, sir. I had my robes spelled closed s-so that no one would be able to see. I-I’m just here for my detention,” Hermione replied shakily.

Severus appraised her for a few moments and replied, “What a pity.” He quickly spun around and moved to Hermione’s normal desk in the back. “I was hoping for more of a show,” mused Severus as he leaned on the desktop and casually ran his fingers across it.

He watched as Hermione’s expressions changed from confusion to understanding. Her jaw dropped as she closed half the distance between them.

“You know! What? How? So this is why I have detention. You want to humiliate me. Well, I will not stand here and have my feelings mocked.”

With a pang of hurt, Hermione ran back to her book bag in front of Severus’ desk. Hermione bent down to retrieve her books so that she could flee. She wanted to get out, to just be anywhere but here.

Quick as lightning, Severus was behind Hermione. He snaked one arm across her belly and pulled her back against him while his other hand was placed on her back, keeping her bent over.

“Does this feel like I want to mock your feelings?” Severus asked as he grinded his erection into her thong-covered ass. “Or, does it, perhaps, feel like I might return those feelings?” Hermione groaned as he emphasized each ‘Feel’ with a small thrust.

Hermione was both breathless and speechless, feeling all too surreal.

Suddenly, Severus had Hermione up and turned towards him. Both burned one another with a look of searing lust. Then it was a duel of tongues as they crashed together; each frantically pouring all they wanted to say into that first long waited kiss.

Finally, they broke apart panting. “I’ve dreamed about this classroom,” said Hermione huskily.

“I know,” smirked Severus.

“That should surprise me, but it doesn’t. How long have you known?” asked Hermione.

“Two months. I heard you calling my name. I’ve been able to see and hear you ever since,” Severus said wistfully.

Hermione grinned as Severus’ eyes flashed mischievously. “Of course, you were always hiding behind that bloody robe. Now, I would very much like to see what I’ve only really heard.”
