In the Mind

Chapter 2: In the Mind

Snape stood there, staring at the door through which Umbridge had just departed. He\'d have to go see Dumbledore about this. Surely there was some rule about staff relations. If not then that would have to change. Deciding not to sit back down and finish his book, Snape set of towards the Headmasters office.

When he reached the office, he muttered that password and strode in. Dumbledore greeted him with a smile and Snape returned the greeting with a scowl. Without waiting for an invite Snape launched in to a long rant.

\'...Albus surely you do not expect me to work alongside her! She is taking liberties with her new role as professor. Just a minute ago she tried to come on to me...what? What is so amusing?\'

\'Calm down Severus. I dare say you\'ve had too much pumpkin juice. I know you want the job, but to plainly walk in and make such wild accusations is a bit too far fetched, don\'t you think?\' Dumbledore said mild mannerly. Snape stared at him in disbelief.

\'Far fetched? FAR Fetched?! Why I..\' Snape’s second rant ended abruptly.

\'Hem, hem\' Came a quiet voice form behind him. Snape wheeled round to see a smiling Umbridge. Suddenly he lost the urge to rant and rave at Dumbledore. Feeling his legs giving way, he sat down on the nearest chair. If either Dumbledore or Umbridge noticed his discomfort, they hid it well. What was the woman playing at?

\'Professor Snape, if you feel that I had erm, how would you put it? Ah yes.... Came on to you. Then I shall apologize. I hope we can restart our friendship from the beginning?\' Umbridge uttered with a sickly sweet tone. She had placed her finger on her chin and was smiling with a mad glint in her eye. The look she was giving made it clear to Snape that she was used to getting her own way.

Umbridge sensed that she wasn\'t going to get an answer from Snape. So she decided to leave him and Dumbledore alone in his office. Once she had swiftly abandoned them, Dumbledore gave Snape a questioning look. Snape glanced at him and then ran his fingers through his hair, letting off a sigh in the process. This was going to be on hell of a year, he thought dryly. Dumbledore put his hands on the younger wizards shoulder and told him to relax. Clearly the idea of loosing out on the job again, was getting to him. Dumbledore had a task to go and complete, so he left Snape to sit on his own for a while. He needed to clear his head

Snape had sat there a good long while in Dumbledore’s office. He hadn\'t realised that he\'d sat there for so long. He was miles away. He came back to earth with a bang when, some one spoke to him. Looking around for the owner of the male voice.

\'A woman coming on to you, you say?\'

There it was again. Snape stood up on his feet and glanced around the room. Then he looked high above a shelf to see a portrait. Phineas Nigellus. How could he forget? This room was full with nosy, interfering portraits. Growling at Phineas, he made to leave the office. Phineas gave off a small cackle and another portrait spoke.

\'Phineas! Who are you annoying?\' The woman in the portrait looked at Snape with beady eyes. Phineas smirked.

\'Why Cordillia, young Severus here...reckons some woman is coming onto him. Imagine that!\' Phineas cackled. The woman in the portrait, by the name of Cordillia, gave a wry grin.

\'Really? And I suppose muggles can fly too?\' Shrieked Cordillia. Snape scowled at them and stalked out, slamming the door behind him. It wasn\'t enough that Dumbledore didn\'t believe him and that Umbridge seemed to be forming a plan in her mind. He also had portraits mocking him. Reminding him, of how far fetched it sounded to have a woman coming onto him. Scowling to himself, he stormed off to the only place he could well and truly be alone. His chambers.

Back in the safety of his chambers, Snape settled down ready for bed. The day’s events had worn on him greatly and he desperately sought comfort in his sleep. He\'d changed into his nightwear minutes ago and slowly lowered himself into his bed. Under the covers he shifted himself slightly in order to get comfortable. It took only a few minutes for him to start drifting off. His bed was like a security blanket, the only place in England that he felt truly safe. Of course he could never really be free of his demons, but this was the closest it came.

He could feel himself going into a deep slumber, but before that peaceful moment arrived there was a sharp banging coming from his living quarters. This noise startled Snape, who was uncharacteristically rather jumpy. That woman couldn\'t have worked her way into his chambers could she? It was highly impossible that she could have. Snape thought it best to check it out any. Swinging him self out of bed. Sighing he reached out for his wand and set off towards his living quarters.

As he padded through from his bedchamber to his living quarters, he raised his wand. He whispered \'Lumos\' and sent the whole room into light. He scanned the room for any sign of intruders. No one was there. It was probably just a figment of his imagination. After climbing back into bed, he once again drifted of into a slumber.

There was a banging on the door. Snape woke the first time he heard it. He had hoped they\'d go away, but unfortunately, they banged again. Only they knocked louder this time. He dragged him self out of bed and went to answer the door. On his way to the door, he pulled his cloak off the back of his chair. By time he\'d covered up his nightwear with his cloak, the person at the door had knocked again. Upon opening the door, he found that there was no one there. Frowning, he looked up and down the corridor on which his door could be found. No one. Turning round to go back in, he saw a figure sitting in his chair. The figure was in total darkness.

Snape walked over to the figure. He reached his hands over to grasp the figure. As he pulled on the shadow, his hands felt empty. All he had in his hands was nothing but a cloth. He froze as a cold sensation swept over his body. As he stood there, he felt a presence behind him. A pair of hands came around his waste. Snape gulped. Not again, he thought. The hands slowly removed his cloak. The cloak dropped to the floor.

His hands tried to get control of the situation, but the unwanted hands slapped him away. A voice whispered in his ear ‘relax, Severus’. Snape closed his eyes and wished for it all to end. It was one of those rare times that he felt powerless. A woman’s mouth came towards his neck and licked him. Her hands roamed his body, as he stood still unable to move. He felt her shift away from him; he was about to turn around to face his assailant. He was stopped, when he heard her click her fingers. Wondering what the point in that was, he looked down at his torso. He had been stripped of his nightshirt and was left standing in just his boxer shorts. His eyes widened with shock and behind him he heard a woman giggle. Before he could speak, her hands moved southwards and began feeling the fabric of his shorts. The hands suddenly stopped. The woman’s giggle turned into a shrill cackle.

‘You don\'t want to get on the wrong side of me Severus’ the woman hissed. She then pulled Snape closer to her. She stayed behind him, never letting him see her face. She rested on of her hands on his groin and felt him suppress a shudder. The room turned light up and he instantly knew he put a foot wrong. The woman brought her hands up and with her nails; she dug them into his chest. Snape felt himself get spun around to face her. He gasped when he saw her face. Or well if he could have seen her face it might have been different. When he looked at her head, there was nothing there. His heart started to pound.

He then awoke with a jolt. It had been a dream. It wasn’t real. Snape ripped off his nightclothes and examined his chest. There were no nail marks to be found. Snape spent the rest of the night staring at the ceiling. He would get no rest tonight.
