Lily in the year 2003

Harry Potter Chapter Two: 2003

Lily glanced around her, she was still in the same old Commons room, but things were different. There was no James, no Sirius, no Peter or even Lupin. The couches were different, yet still the same, as were the books and the fireplace. She glanced around. Her fingers grabbed the parchment and she rushed off to the headmasters office to give him the letter that would let her ‘live’ in Hogwarts again.

“Yes...thank you Lily...” Dumbledore glanced at Lily with a knowing eye. “And when you should return to your old school... tell Professor Larix and Professor McGarpo that I send my best regards...” He smiled warmly at the ‘new’ student.

“Thank you Professor!” Lily said happily as she ran off to the common room to change into her ‘newer’ robes.

Harry Potter rushed quickly to Potions class. Severus Snape sat at his desk, watching the students filing in before class began.

Severus wondered about his childhood, not really thinking, but letting his mind wander, but he was brought back to reality by Ronald Weasley... who bowled over three cauldrons on the way to his stool. Malfoy and those goons he called friends hooted and roared with laughter.

Snape was just about to yell at the red-headed fullblood... when he saw her...

Young Lily Evans walked into the room. Snape thought to himself... no, he thought, it couldn’t be her! It just couldn’t be her!

Lily looked around for a place to sit, her gentle eyes and face shining in every corner of the darkened and dank dungeon. She wore a gryffindor robe, so she thought to herself that she must find a seat on that side of the room.

A loud crash drew her attention to the Slytherin side of the potions class. Draco Malfoy had knocked one of his goons off of his stool and was offering it to her. She looked at Draco and nodded, “A Malfoy?” She whispered and looked over towards a striking young man that reminded her of James back in her own time.

Next to this ‘James’ lookalike sat a redheaded boy that reminded her of one of her fellow Gryfindors from school, along with a girl with brown long hair and a smiling face. There was an empty cauldron next to ‘James.’

“Ms... Ms...” Severus tried not to use a name that Potter might recognize.

“I am Ms. Evans, Professor...” She looked at him, and he felt his heart melt again.

“Snape. Severus Snape...” He said, “Nice to have you in class Ms. Evans.”

Harry didn’t lift an eyelash at the mention of his mother’s maiden name, he didn’t even know it himself, which saved Lily a lot of trouble of trying to come up with and respond to a fake name, if she, had indeed, realized who this child was. She looked to the boy next to her and smiled, “I’m Lily... and who are you?”

Harry felt his face blush. “My name is Harry...” Harry smiled, and for some odd reason didn’t tell the girl his last name.

“And who are your friends?” She asked again, her sweetness melting into the room, making even Draco smile.

“Uh...I’m Ronald...Ron Weasley...” Ron stammered at her.

“I’m Hermione Granger.”

“I haven’t heard the name Granger before in the wizarding world...” Lily said, looking at Draco and then at Harry and Ron.

“My parents are both muggles...” Hermione almost whispered to the girl.

“There is no shame in that! Both my parents are muggles as well!” Lily said, shooting Hermione a knowing glance that seemed to relax her.

“And now class... we add the potent dragon’s eye powder to the potion, but not too much as it may...” Snape was saying as the class was trying to make a new potion.

“BLAM!!!!!” Ronald’s cauldron exploded with thick black smoke. Hermione just sighed and Harry hid a smile. Draco, Crabbe and Goyle roared with laughter.

“Added too much dragon’s eye, eh Weasley?” Snape said, “Ten points from Gryiffindor for your mistake.”

Lily frowned and looked at Ron, who was covered in bright green potion.

“Now I am going to fail this potion class too...” Ron said.

“Ronald, it’s just a simple potion of transfigurations, it’s self-explanatory.” Lily said. “If you want, I could help you study after class.”

Ron felt his face turn almost as red as his hair. “Y...yes, that would be good.”

Harry was pleased to see that his potion had released the wisp of silvery smoke in the shape of a dragon that showed that he had done the formula right.

Lily had already had her potion done. Hermione had hers done shortly afterward.

Harry felt strangely connected to this Lily.
