-part two-

Throughout class, in which they were going over a brief chapter in the book about a serpent of sorts, instantly catching Harry’s attention, Emi was fluttering between Draco’s desk, Harry’s lap and Lupin’s oversized chair. Finally worn out, she curled into a ball in the chair, her stuffed black dog clutched tightly in her hand.

“…so if you please, have a two and a half foot scroll written about this chapter for next class.” Lupin asked as the class packed up to leave.

Hermione and Ron glanced at Harry with a dirty look and walked out holding hands. Harry caught the look and slumped in his seat, feeling helpless. He remained that way until everyone else had left, except Draco.

“Come on Harry,” Draco murmured as he sat down next to the other boy. Don’t let them get to you like that. Besides, you know and I know that they’re off to go eat each other’s faces instead of actual food.” Draco smirked and full out laughed when Harry made a disgusted face. “Ha. Good then, c’mon! Let’s go eat.”

“Yes Drakie.” Harry snickered behind his hand. “Would Miss Emi like to join us as well?” he asked quickly, not giving Draco the chance to reprimand him for the use of the nickname.

“That would be wonderful. Thank you boys.” Lupin replied as he nudged the little ball of flesh awake. “Go on Emi, go eat with these two goofs.” He laughed softly and smiled at the little girl. Only Harry noticed the smile didn’t reach his amber eyes.

“Okay Daddy.” She pecked his nose and jumped off the chair. “Carry me Draco!” she skipped the distance to the blonde and stood in front of him with her violet eyes glittering and her arms held high above her head, the plush dog hanging from one.

“Uhh, sure thing Miss Emi!” Draco smiled and knelt down so she could climb onto his back. “We’ll meet you by the lake Harry!” Draco turned with a smile and walked out the door, leaving Harry and Lupin in the room.

“I feel the same way Remus. Even after all this time, I still feel responsible.” Harry said softly as he made his way to the front of the room where Lupin still stood staring blankly at the chair in front of him.

“It wasn’t your fault Harry. You know that.” Lupin replied just as softly, if not a little raspier. “I can’t believe how much she reminds me of him.”

“So she is yours and… his?” Harry lowered his gaze to the floor, still unable to say his name after his death.

Lupin hesitated but affirmed the question. He looked up from the chair and stared out into space via the window. “She’s lucky though. She got every aspect of him and was spared my flaws.” In his mind’s eye Remus saw himself and Sirius in the field right outside the Forbidden Forest, wearing nothing but sweat and smiles. Hands touching and feeling, soft and gentle caresses, kisses and pecks and licks… the sweet words whispered between them, promises of a life together, the sun casting its glow upon them…

“Are you sure about that?” Harry asked, unsure if he had pulled the werewolf out of his reverie. When Remus didn’t reply Harry walked out of the room and made his way to the lake to eat lunch with Draco and Emi. Being a seventh year, as well as being friends with the Head Boy had its benefits.

“Merlin… if only you were here Siri, you would see what a beautiful girl we had. If only…”

“Harry!!” Emi leapt up from the ground and ran towards Harry. “What took you so long?” she cried as Harry scooped her into his arms and walked back to where Draco was lying on the ground breathing gently with his silver eyes closed.

“What happened here? Did you tackle him or something Miss Emi?” Harry joked as he let the girl back onto the ground and gently toed Draco in the side.

Emi laughed and reached for an apple. “Yup! And I got him good, too!”

“Sure looks that way.” Harry sat down and grabbed some fruit from the plate that was sitting in front of him. “Wakey, wakey little Drakie!” he teased, waving the fruit in front of Draco’s nose.

“I’m trying to sleep Wonder-boy.” Draco murmured and rolled over, causing Emi to erupt in more laughter.

Harry shrugged, popped the piece of fruit in his own mouth and turned towards the lake. The sun sparkled and danced across its smooth surface, unmindful of the creatures living beneath the crystal clear stage. The grass around the banks of the lake waved back and forth in the gentle end-of-summer-beginning-of-autumn breeze.

“Harry?” Draco had turned back around and was propping himself on his elbows. When the boy didn’t respond he grumbled under his breath and sat up fully. “Harry!”

“Harry’s watching the sun dance. It’s really pretty Draco, you should watch it too.” Emi answer quietly, having settled down next to Harry with her stuffed companion propped in her arms so it could watch too.

Draco looked at Harry again, noticing his glasses were perched on top of his head and his green eyes were slightly misty. With a sigh he turned towards the lake as well, and the three of them watched the sun continue its dance until a bell rang announcing the end of the lunch hour.

“So, where are you off to?” Draco asked as he gathered his things and vanished the remaining food.

“I’m free for the…” Harry looked past Draco to the approaching figures. “Oh no.”

“What’s wrong Harry?” Emi looked up from the ground, her violet eyes wide.

“Hey, Potter, what’s this? Hanging with the Slytherin Sex God and some whiney pipsqueak? My how the mighty have fallen!” Ron sneered. Behind him Dean Thomas and Colin Creevey snickered and egged him on. “And what’s this I hear? Harry Potter romps with the boys? Is this true?” he asked in his most shocked voice.

Emi glowered at the three boys and her grip on the dog she carried tightened. Draco narrowed his eyes but said nothing. Who was he to deny the ‘Sex God’ comment?

“Cat got you tongue, Potter? Or are you too jacked up on crack to answer me? ‘Cause you know there’s word that not only are you addicted to bending over for anyone to take you, you are addicted to drugs. Is that true too?” Ron continued, gaining momentum.

Draco had moved in front of Emi, if only to keep her out of trouble, but to also get a better look at Harry, who hadn’t moved since Ron started the nasty comments.

“OH! And then there’s the nonsense about how you like to kill people. You realize it was you who killed your parents and all those muggles, right? And it was you who killed my father and … oh yes, Sirius Black. You killed him too, you know. Heard you killed him with a smile, just like he killed those people. But I bet it was because he knew you were coming along and was so angry that he just took it out on them. It’s all your fault they’re dead you know. All. Your. Fault.” Ron smirked and turned on his heels, Dean and Colin following him.

Emi pushed from behind Draco and moved to take Harry’s hand. Draco however stopped her and put a hand on Harry’s shoulder. “Harry? Are you…”

Harry lowered his head and nodded slowly. “I’m fine. As I was saying, I’m free for the rest of the day.” He lifted his head and replaced the offending and unnecessary glasses back on his face. The slight mist that covered his eyes before had turned into a glaze and had turned his eyes red.

“Ah, good. Then we can sit back down and… Harry?” Draco moved around Emi and put both hands on Harry’s shoulders. “If you need to talk or cry or anything, I’m here. Come on Harry. You can’t keep it bottled up. You…” Draco spun around and grabbed Emi’s wrist before she could get away. “You aren’t going anywhere without one of us, got it?”

“Fine, then, can one of you PLEASE take me to the bathroom? I really gotta go!” She crossed her legs and danced around, still whining about having to go really badly. The sight was enough to make Harry chuckle.

“Alright, but I’m not going into the bathroom with you unless you really need me to...” Harry started, a small smile splayed across his face, though not quite reaching his glassy eyes.

“Eww! I don’t need you to hold my hand while I use the toilet! That’s just gross! Draco! Did you hear what he said!?” Emi turned her head to Draco.

Draco smiled and joined the other two, concerned for Harry but hiding it so Emi wouldn’t get upset. Or was it because he didn’t really know why he was so concerned for Harry? ‘I mean, why am I so concerned? We only just started to really get along this summer… okay, so what if that getting along included a little bit of excess touching and some random and totally unmeant, purely curious kisses? Those kisses didn’t mean… okay they were amazing! Merlin, I am getting so worked up… shit! What was she saying?’

“Draco! Harry wants to hold my hand while I go to the bathroom!! That’s so gross!!” Emi was still whining.

“Well, we did tell your Uncle Sev and your father that we would take care of you.” Draco started.

“And if we want to do that then we can’t let you out of our sight.” Harry continued.

“Even if I’m just going to pee!?” Emi complained, grabbing both Draco’s and Harry’s hands and pulling them to make the boys walk faster. She really had to go!

“Most definitely if you’re going to pee. I mean, do you know what could happen to little girls alone in bathrooms?” Draco asked, mock-concern in his voice, though a smile spread across his face.

“I don’t care what could happen but all I know is I gotta go and you guys are NOT gonna hold my hand while I do what I gotta do! That’s like… eww!!!” Emi cried, tugging even harder on the two hands she held. Giving up she yanked out of the grips both boys held on her and sprinted up to the castle, ignorant of the people she pushed out of her way.

“Emi!” Harry and Draco yelled in unison and charged after the surprisingly swift little girl. Following her exact course of action, the two boys pushed people out of their way, Ron, Dean and Colin being no exception. As Harry passed them he skidded to a halt and spun around to face them. He flashed a feral grin, gave them the bird, then resumed his chase of the obvious half-werewolf.

Once the young girl and her two guardians were out of sight Colin turned to Ron, who was staring through narrowed eyes in the direction the trio had run off in. “Out of curiosity Ron, why are we so mad at Harry? I mean, I know your father is dead now, but does that really have something to do with Harry?”

“Harry got my father killed. Thus, I hate him. It was because Harry was part of my family’s life that got my father killed. All because of Harry.” Ron turned his glare on Colin. “I can’t forgive him for that.”

“I understand Ron, but you realize you are ending a friendship because…” Colin started.

“Shut-up, Creevey. Harry ended his friendship the moment he killed his own godfather. And to think I believed that he didn’t do it.” Ron snapped.

Colin looked back at Dean, and shrugged. He personally had nothing against Harry but he agreed that something changed with the Boy-Who-Lived. And that something happened right at the end of fifth year.
