Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Valerie had tossed an turned all night and when light finally came she felt the dread in her stomach. She was trying to will the sun to go back down when the door burst open. “Time to get up dear. You have an hour before you need to apparate to the train station.” Arabella cheerful voice said pushing back the curtains.

Valerie winced, covering up her eyes, but got out of bed anyway. She didn’t want to spend anymore time than necessary in this horrid pink room. Before Arabella left, Valerie laughed. “I can use magic outside school now. This is awesome.” She said as she picked up her wand still half asleep.

“You might want to wait until you’re a bit more awake before you try casting any charms.” Valerie nodded in agreement setting the wand back down on the night stand. She grabbed her bag and headed towards Ms. Figg’s bathroom. She had used it a few times before, so she knew it was pink as well and dreaded it, but she needed a shower.

She pulled open the large wooden door before stepping inside and locking it. She turned on the water as hot as it would go before climbing inside and scrubbing her skin until it was red, but she felt clean again. A night of nightmares had plagued her and she needed to wash away the memories. She washed her long black curly hair slightly before conditioning it and climbing out of the shower.

She never used hair spells because they had a bad affect on her hair. She forced the brush through her curls that fell to her hips and decided to let it air dry. Her scalp was still a bit tender from last night, but that would go away soon. She hoped at least. She quickly put on her muggle clothes that were in the bag and brushed her teeth. She noticed one of her teeth was lose in the back, so she cast a quick spell on it that she had learned from a book.

It was a book about fighting. How she ended up with it she couldn’t remember. It obviously hadn’t done her any good last night though. She sighed before deciding to leave her hair down, so it would help hide her swollen jaw. She walked outside with thirty minutes to spare and grabbed Cornelius who curled up around her shoulders. She put her backpack on and waved goodbye to Ms. Figg with a smile.

She quickly hid behind the house before muttering the apparation spell. She found herself standing beside the large red steam engine called the Hogwarts Express and let out a small breath. That was the first time she had apparated a far distance except for her apparation test. She ignored the other people’s looks as she climbed aboard and slid into the very last compartment.

Cornelius curled up on the seat across from her and she smirked. She pulled her school robes on over her clothes and leaned back. She thanked Merlin that this girl Tonks knew what she was doing. She had packed her wizard wireless. Valerie plugged in the headphones before putting it on her head. She knew she’d be there for about ten more minutes before others would start arriving.

She was busy listening to her music when the door to her compartment opened and she looked at the clock on the wall. They had about three minutes until the train would leave. “Do you mind if we sit here? All the other compartments are full.” Valerie recognized them immediately. The Golden Trio. The one’s who defeated Voldemort. She gestured for them to sit down and moved her feet off the seat.

The hair must’ve fallen away from her face when she moved because she heard a gasp and nearly rolled her eyes. “What happened to you?” Hermione asked and Valerie bit her lip to keep herself in line. “It doesn’t matter.” Valerie said and Hermione stared at her for a minute.

“Well Ron and I have to go to the head’s compartment. I’m head girl.” Valerie nodded and Hermione and Ron left. Valerie knew Harry was gay, so she didn’t need to worry about him. Not many people knew about it, but they didn’t notice Valerie was standing there like always.

“You’re the one who got attacked?” His voice made her freeze and she looked up at him. His green eyes were staring back at her intently and she nodded. He lived around her, so she was sure the entire neighborhood had heard what happened.

“What happened?” He asked looking at her closely. “Nothing major. Why do you care?” She asked looking at him quizzically.

He was about to answer when door opened. “Severus told me what happened. Are you okay?” Draco said walking into the compartment and making sure it was shut behind him. He took a seat next to Harry and she noticed how close they sat next to each other and how Harry was looking at him like he wanted to jump him.

“I’ll live. Professor Snape doesn’t need to be putting my business out there like that.” She scowled and she noticed Draco shot Harry a look of adoration.

“Would you two like me to leave? I can tell you’re ready to jump each others bones.” She said in a cold voice and they looked at her shocked. Draco narrowed cold grey eyes and Harry stared at her like she had grown an extra head.

“What are you talking about Valerie?” Draco asked and she rolled her eyes. “I’m not blind like some people in this school, and no I’m not going to tell anyone, so don’t worry about it.” She watched Harry relax and smirked.

Draco looked at him before sighing and nodding at her. “It’s alright. We can wait until we get to Hogwarts. Can’t we Harry?” He said winking at him and she fought the urge to laugh when Harry turned bright red. You could definitely tell who wore the pants in this relationship.

“Hello Cornelius.” Draco said picking up the cat. Valerie glared at him for a second before sighing. “So are you going to tell me what happened, or do I have to hold the cat captive.” Draco said raising an eyebrow at her.

“Severus already told you what happened. Frank went nuts decided he wanted me to pay rent since I turned 18, but he wanted something other than money. So I booked, and he didn’t want to let me leave. That’s the gist of it.” She said staring pointedly at Draco. He looked at her as his eyes darkened and he stood up starting to pace back and forth across the apartment.

“I could have him killed you know?” He said stopping suddenly and looking down at her with a cold grin. “It’s fine Draco. Why aren’t you in the head’s compartment? You are head boy aren’t you?” He nodded looking down at Harry with a small smile.

“We already sorted everything out. Granger and the Weasel are busy making out. You know head’s get their own rooms Harry?” Draco said with a smirk brushing a bit of blonde hair out of his eyes. She watched Harry’s eyes darken and turned up her music up, so she didn’t have to hear it.

Lucky for her the train came to a halt a few minutes later. She looked out the window and realized they had made it to Hogsmeade. She smirked leaving her backpack, but Cornelius followed her his tail twitching every few seconds. She had stuffed her wizard wireless in her backpack before getting off the train, so she didn’t have her music for this ride.

She scowled as The Golden Trio and Draco climbed into the carriage with her. It was definitely an interesting ride. More like nauseating. She thought to herself. Draco and Harry were quietly feeling each other up, and Hermione and Ron were busy making out oblivious to those around them. In case you’re wondering. Draco came over to the light side and helped the light side win the war as a spy.

It took a while, but they finally reached Hogwarts. After the sorting ceremony Dumbledore stood up to give his speech like always. “This year we have three new teachers. For Defense Against the Dark Arts we must welcome back Remus Lupin, because of certain ailments we have decided to hire a second Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to help. Sirius Black.” The students were shocked, but all the girls were talking about cute teachers and Valerie rolled her eyes.

“And lastly we have Oliver Wood as our new flying instructor, and Quidditch coach.” Valerie nearly went deaf from the cheers. Valerie was glad she didn’t play Quidditch because she was sure she wouldn’t be able to concentrate. She felt a set of eyes on her and looked up at the teacher’s table.

Sirius was staring at her and it kind of irked her. She raised an eyebrow in challenge and he grinned before taking a bite of food. Her eyes widened slightly and she realized Dumbledore had completed his speech and the food had appeared. She watched him laugh and glared at him before turning back to her food.

“Oh isn’t he just the sexiest teacher you have ever seen? Look at that hair? And those eyes? What about Professor Lupin? Werewolves are so sexy.” She heard the girls at her table talk on and on and cringed. She finally got sick of it after about three minutes and stood up leaving her table much to the shock of her Professors. She headed out the doors and could feel the eyes on her back, but she didn’t care.

She was hungry and she wasn’t going to get anything down if she stayed in there listening to all those idiots. She tickled the pear and pulled open the painting climbing down the stairs quickly. A bunch of little eager house elves appeared in front of her and she stared at them. “What can Dobby get Miss?” She smiled at the little creature before getting an idea.

“Got any firewhiskey? I turned 18 yesterday.” The elf looked around nervously before disappearing and returning with a large bottle of alcohol. She stared at it for a moment before sighing and taking a small drink. It burned all the way down, but nothing she couldn’t handle. She chugged about half of the bottle before she heard a voice behind her.

“You shouldn’t drink on an empty stomach. I thought Ravenclaws were supposed to be smart?” Valerie jumped dropping the bottle on the ground. The glass shattered, but Dobby quickly cleaned it up with a snap of his fingers.

“How did you find me?” She growled at her new Professor. “Just a guess, and I also had a bit of help.” He said holding up a piece of parchment and she glared at it. The Marauder’s Map.

“You helped create that didn’t you?” She asked and he nodded black hair falling in his face. She watched him take a seat across from her, but only out of the corner of her eye. She was trying her hardest to burn a hole through the table.

“Why’d you run off like that? Scared poor Dumbledore, he was ready to send out a search party, but I volunteered because I had the map. The big black bat didn’t like that to much.” He said pretending to ponder the idea as he stared at the mop of black curls.

“I hate females.” She said with a growl and Sirius stared at her in shock. “Excuse me?” He asked thinking he hadn’t heard her right.

“I hate teenage girls. Their annoying, and I just want to strangle them.” She said looking up at him for the first time while he tried not to laugh. “You do realize you’re a teenage girl?” He asked curiously and she shook her head.

“I’m not a teenager anymore. I haven’t been a teenager mentally for quite a few years. There are just some things that kill the child inside you.” She sighed brushing the hair behind her ear while he gazed at her in shock.

“Like what?” He asked and she rolled her eyes. “Like getting cursed by death eaters when you’re barely five years old. My parents were murdered when I was a little girl and I was sent to live with Frank and Amelia. There’s no cure for the after effects of the crucio.” She sighed and she noticed how dark Sirius eyes had gotten.

“Is that why you just drank a half a fifth of firewhiskey?” He asked and she rolled her eyes. “No I’ve put that in the past. I drank half a fifth of firewhiskey because I just turned 18 and I felt it was my right.” She said looking at him pointedly. He seemed to ponder it for a minute before nodding.

“Dobby another bottle of firewhiskey.” He said with a smirk before winking at Valerie. “No thanks. I’ve got classes tomorrow I don’t need to get drunk and not be able to focus. I’m already going to have a hard enough time as it is.” She said before cringing at what she said.

“Why are you going to have trouble focusing?” He asked with a smirk and she rolled her eyes. “Sleep deprivation.” She said saying the first thing that came to mind. He raised an eyebrow at her before shrugging.

“Dobby can you bring me a sober up potion.” She said looking at the small elf. He disappeared before reappearing with a small note and a bottle. She took the note from him looking at it curiously. She read it before letting out a small laugh. “What’s it say?” Sirius asked and she passed it over to him.

“Consider this your birthday present. 10 points from Ravenclaw.” Sirius read with a snort. “30 points to Ravenclaw for…convincing a house elf to break school rules.” Sirius said trying to think of something just to spite Severus.

“I’ll escort you back to Ravenclaw, so you don’t get caught by Filch. It wouldn’t be good to get a detention your first day back.” Sirius said winking at her. She quickly downed the sobering potion before standing up and following him out of the kitchen.

They didn’t really talk about much except how annoying people were and different alcohols. It was odd to talk to your Professor about that, but it was fun none the less. They finally reached the painting and he looked down at the map. “Erumpent’s tail.” It was an odd password, but the painting opened for her.

“Thanks Sirius. Goodnight.” She said before climbing the stairs to the common room. “Of course. What are Professor’s for?” She laughed. “Definitely not that.” She said with a smirk. “Goodnight Valerie.” She nodded shutting the portrait behind her.

Those girls were definitely right about him being sexy, or maybe it was just the alcohol. She shook her head and walked into the common room. She was thankful it was empty and climbed upstairs before going to the 7th year girl’s dorm. She crept into the room noticing that there were still a few people up and climbed into bed quickly.

She shut her curtains and cast a locking and silencing charm on them before falling asleep to a night full of nightmares just like the night before.
