Broken Smile
Professor Dumbledore had thought it best for Mr. and Mrs. Weasley to become Hermione\'s guardians, much to Professor McGonagall’s annoyance.
Hermione had spent a week sorting through personal things at her home, memories she wanted to take to the Weasley\'s. She could not bare to stay at her childhood home, not even for one night. Mr. Weasley took a week off work and brought Hermione there everyday and back to the Weasley home every night; Mrs. Weasley come along too, being her usual caring self.
Hermione decided to sell the house, and Remus Lupin kindly offered to take care of the arrangements. All the furniture was given to charity; the only things Hermione brought with her were clothes, stuffed animals, and family pictures. She stood in her empty bedroom, one small box by her feet filled with two photo albums, a small jewelry box, and an old ratty teddy bear. \"Is everything ok, dear?\" asked Mrs. Weasley from the doorway. \"If you need more time....\"
Hermione swore she would not cry again, crying was all she seemed to do lately.
\"I\'m ready...I just never thought....\" Hermione tried but her words failed her; a few tears slipped down her cheeks. Mrs. Weasley gathered Hermione in her arms; Hermione cried against Mrs. Weasley while she whispered sweet words into her hair.
\"Is everything ok in here?\" Mr. Weasley asked. Mrs. Weasley pulled back from Hermione, taking a tissue from her sleeve and wiping her eyes. \"Yes, everything is fine. Sometimes us girls need a good cry,\" Mrs. Weasley said, smiling down at Hermione.
\"What\'s in the box, Arthur?\" Mrs. Weasley asked, eyeing the box in his arms. \"Oh, well just some plugs...batteries and some bits and pieces,\" Mr. Weasley said, winking at Hermione. Earlier that day Hermione told Mr. Weasley to take what he wanted, knowing how much he enjoyed Muggle things.
Arthur took a metal object from the box. \"What\'s this called?\" he asked, holding it up so Hermione could see. Hermione smiled, \"It\'s a tin opener; you know, for cans of baked beans or soup,\" Hermione said with a giggle at Mr. Weasley’s excited expression.
Hermione lingered in the house for a little longer before returning to the Burrow.
Hermione and Mrs. Weasley were alone over the weekend as Mr. Weasley had to work. The two women spent the weekend knitting.
