Chapter One
Draco woke to a cold nose pressing into his hand. His silver-gray eyes opened to find his four month old Bull Mastiff, Lucifer, lying silently at his side with his eyes still closed. A smiled graced Draco’s chiseled features as he rubbed the dogs’ head affectionately. Stepping out of his king sized bed, Draco yawned and stretched before heading to the bathroom, Lucifer still lying asleep on the bed.
It had been six years since Draco had last had any contact with his father -his mother died in the final war in which the dark lord was defeated at long last- or the wizarding world; six years to the day when he walked away from everything familiar to him. He was thankful, however, that he had saved away a small fortune if he decided to return. The only reason he left in the first place, besides the fact he hated his father, was because he had heard rumors that Blaise and his family were living in America.
Sure enough, he had found them in California. He now shared a two story home with him and two others in beautiful Santa Barbara, California. Said others were Brye McIver and Lakona Brooks. Blaise and Draco had decided that Blaise had lost his mind when he agreed to share a house with the two. Yes they were two of his good friends, but they always had to best the other, even if it was at 9\' o clock in the morning. Draco opened the door and rolled his eyes as he made his way down the stairs. \'Here\'s to another day,\' He thought.
“Brye, stop it!” came the unmistakable voice of Lakona. She was a famous local surfer, though she refused to go pro. Draco could only laugh when he heard her whining.
“Loud aren’t they Lucifer?” He asked. The dog only whined and laid his head down over crossed paws next to the other house hold dogs. Draco laughed again.
“Brye, stop teasing her would you?!” Blaise shouted.
“I’m NOT! She\'s the one who needs to be yelled at, NOT ME!” Brye answered heatedly.
Draco took that time to make himself noticed. “Would you three STOP it already?!” He yelled.
Lakona shut her mouth with an audible snap when she heard Draco yell. That only meant that they had either woken him or his dog or both of them up and he was irritated as hell now. Brye sighed and muttered something that sounded an awful lot like “spoil sport” under his breath and Blaise just smirked. The dogs in the corner raised their heads when silence filled the room for more than two seconds. This was only something they were used to when Draco was downstairs.
“What’s going on anyways, since I was so rudely awoken by this little…tryst…if you three don’t mind me asking that is?” Draco drawled.
“Brye was teasing Lakona about-” Lakona’s hand shot out to cover Blaise’s lips before he could say anything else. An icy glare sent in Brye’s direction kept him from talking as well.
“It was nothing Draco.” Lakona said glaring at the other two men before looking Draco in the eyes.
Draco noticed the hurt look in Blaise’s face but didn’t comment. He only shook his head and looked at the five bodies that were now lying together in a corner of the kitchen. “Too bad you guys don’t speak my language huh.” He quipped in amusement.
“So anyways, my cousin is hosting a birthday party for a friend of hers. She wants me to go. She said I could bring you and the dogs along. Everyone up to it?” Brye asked trying to chance the subject of the conversation.
“Whatever. Major, Minor, come on.” Lakona huffed. She was still a little annoyed. But she called her dogs to her anyways as she sat down against the wall.
“Why not?” Blaise asked. \"Delta, Come here boy.\" He called and smiled when his dog jumped up to say hello to him.
“Hn? I guess.” Draco answered.
“Cool. So we’ll head on down to Santa Maria tomorrow morning. We should be there about an hour before the party starts. I’ll go IM her. Oh, Lakona, she asked me to tell you to bring your board.” Brye said. \"Haru, come on girl.\" He called.
“Jer counted on us saying yes, huh?” She asked though she wasn’t answered.
“So who’s Jer and why don’t we know her?” Blaise asked.
“Jericho McIver is a second generation pure blooded witch. Her parents moved here after her uncle died. That was when she was two though.” Lakona answered.
Blaise arched an eyebrow and met Draco’s eyes; he knew every pure blooded witch or wizard in the world and even he looked confused. Before they had a chance to ask her, Lakona held up her hand to silence them and pointed to the living room. Once seated, she opened the floor for questions.
“How do you know she’s not lying about being a witch…I mean…” Blaise paused and looked at Draco who nodded. “You’re not a witch are you?” He asked quietly.
By this time, Brye had come to sit next to Lakona, just in time to hear the question. He audibly sighed and nodded to Lakona. “Both Brye and myself are aware of the wizarding world yes. And yes, we’re American pure bloods. Our lines are more hidden and protected.” Lakona replied coolly.
Blaise picked up on the words that still hung in the air. “I didn’t know you were related. Draco and I thought you were dating.” He quipped.
“So exactly HOW are you related?” Draco asked.
Brye and Lakona laughed. “We’re step siblings. I’m related to Jericho by default.” Lakona said. Blaise still looked confused and Draco nodded.
“Jericho and Lakona are step cousins Blaise.” Brye said. He laughed when Blaise only nodded.
Draco smirked. “So you’re the second generations too then?” he asked.
“Well, I am. Lakona is the fourth generation in her family though.” Brye answered.
“So…Jericho…is she talented?” Blaise asked.
Lakona grinned evilly. “Oh, she can do a LOT of things…you’ll have to see WHAT things she can do on your own though.” she said smirking.
Blaise huffed while Draco and Brye chuckled.
“Come on, lets’ hit the waves you guys. Please? I’m dying to surf.” Brye said with a hint of a whine.
“See you in five.” Everyone said at once before heading to their rooms to change.
As promised, five minutes later, everyone was in the living room again dressed and ready for a day of surfing and tanning on the beach. Lakona was the only one out of place among the guys. She wore a black bikini top along with a pair of Brye’s black swimming trunks that looked more like flimsy cargo shorts, while Brye, Blaise and Draco donned wet suits. Lakona only grinned at the look she got from Brye and grabbed her keys.
“Come on guys, in the car.” Lakona said to the dogs.
Four bodies moved out the door at the sound of Lakona’s voice and dangling keys. Draco laughed and patted his thigh gently, silently calling his dog to him. “You’re just too stubborn for your own good Lucifer.” He said opening the driver’s side of his car after unlocking it. He grinned to the other two in the car with him. “You two might want to buckle up.” He said with a sadistic grin on his face.
It was no secret that Draco’s Mustang GT had been re-modeled. He and Brye had worked to make the car lighter and faster, just so Draco could race it. Brye was regretting ever helping him at the moment. Fifteen minutes later and two frightened surfers all but jumped out of Draco’s car. He only laughed. Once they had parked, Lakona opened her trunk all the way and took the boards out before letting the dogs pile out of the back seat, which had been folded down to make room for the boards.
Draco grinned at some tourists as they walked past him giggling and pointing. Once they were gone, Draco scowled and rolled his eyes. “Damn females.” He muttered walking off. He was stopped by Lakona’s taunt.
“Oh come on. We’re not all THAT bad, are we Draco?” She asked him sweetly.
Draco’s smirk was far worse than Lakona’s. He stopped mid step and glanced over his shoulder at her. “No, you’re the worst one I have met yet.” He grinned. With that said, he walked off with Blaise and Brye laughing.
“Just wait until you meet Jericho, Draco Malfoy! Just you WAIT!” She muttered making her way down to the beach. Setting up her things, she told the dogs to stay and watch their things. Since they were locals, no one really bothered the dogs, or their things. Lakona smirked at that fact and headed to join the other surfers in the water, grinning like a mad woman that the thought of revenge by Jericho’s hand.
