Chapter 2: Start of year feast
Chapter 2: Start of year feast
Amelia was seated at the head table in the Great Hall waiting for the last first years to be sorted. She had been seated in-between Snape and Dumbledore. She had noticed that Snape doesn't actually talk much at all. She was ally lly getting very annoyed with him. Every time she tried to make conversation he would ignore her or just grumble.
"Severus?" Amelia whispered.
"What?" Snape hissed.
"Are you ok?"
"I am fine." Snape turned away. Amelia sighed. She watched as all the students were seated. Dumbledore rose from his char and cleared his throat. The hall went silent.
"Hello all and welcome to another year here at Hogwarts. I do hope it will be a good one."bledbledore looked down at Amelia and motioned for her to stand up. Amelia stood and looked at all the students, who looked back at her. "It is my great pleasure to introduce you to out new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Amelia Riddle." The hall began to mutter. Amelia knew what it was about. "Do treat her nicely." Amelia sat down again. "LET THE FEAST BEGIN AND ALL ENJOY." The tables flooded with food and everyone began to eat.
"That went well." Amelia muttered.
"It did not go as bad as I had thought it would have." Dumbledore chuckled.
"I don't know what degree of badness your thought would have been, but I know I do not want to witness it." Amelia laughed. Amelia began to eat her food. She could see out of the corner of her eye that Snape was staring at her. She turned to him. "Is there a problem Severus?" Amelia asked.
"No." Snape turned away.
"Has a pole gone and got it self stuck up your ass?" Amelia asked putting down her knife andk. k.
"Excuse me?" Snape looked baffled.
"What is wrong with you? Why do you have to act like this?" Amelia spat.
"Nothing is wrong with me." Snape proclaimed.
"Bullocks. You are nothing but a pathetic man Severus. I've stuck up with you for 2 days." Amelia stood up.
"Where are you going dear?" Dumbledore asked.
"Oh, I ah, need to go to my room." Amelia turned around and left the hall. Dumbledore looked at Snape.
"Severus." Dumbledore tutted. "Why can you not get along with anyone?"
"I do not know Albus, I do not know." Snape stood up and followed Amelia out of the hall.
Amelia walked in to her office and sat down at her desk. She breathed in and out. Trying to calm down. She took out her class plan from her draw and began to write it out again. She didn't know how she was going to work with Snape.
Amelia remembered her crush she had on him 8 years ago. She still had one now, but it was staring to fade. She had fallen in love with him when she was 17 and couldn’t really lose the feeling. All she wanted was to be able to get along with him, but that wasn’t going to happen. She didn't want to know him anymore. He was not a nice person to know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Meanwhile~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snape walked in to his office and over to his desk. He pulled open a draw and pulled out a folded piece of parchment. He put it in his pocket and left his office. He walked down the dark hallway and over to Amelia's office. He knocked on the door.
"Come in." Amelia said. Snape opened the door and saw Amelia sitting at her desk. Amelia looked up at him.
"You know I used to actually like you." Amelia sighed. Snape walked towards her desk.
"I know." Snape took the folded piece of parchment out of his pocked and slid it across Amelia's desk. Amelia picked up the parchment and opened it up. It was a picture she had drawn of her and Snape in bed, and the words 'I love Snape' all around it. Sarah remembered when she had drawn this. It was in the fist week of her 7th year.
"You kept this for 8 years?" Amelia asked.
"Yes." Snape nodded.
"Why?" Amelia was puzzled.
"I just remembered I had it in my drawer. It was a pretty good drawing if you looked past its meaning." Snape's tone had changed.
"Thanks." Amelia folded the parchment back up and left it on top of her desk. "Why can't you be a little nicer to me Severus? We have to work together."
"Amelia it's just not me to be nice." That was the first time Snape had called Amelia by her first name.
"Well you can try at least." Amelia smiled.
"Alright I shall try."
"Good." Amelia looked in to Snape's eyes. She saw nothing but black, a deep endless black that fascinated her. "Your eyes are so dark." Amelia admired.
"Hmm." Snape closed his eyes. "And yours are very bright, very unlike your fathers." Amelia looked angry.
"Don't bring up my father, EVER!" Amelia growled. "I am like my mother and she died because of him." Snape stared down at Amelia. Clearly this was a difficult subject for her.
"I am truly sorry about your mother Amelia." Snape's eyes softened.
"Thank you for your sympathy." Amelia stood up and turned her back towards him. "The only person I have is my grandfather." Amelia sighed. She could feel her tears well up in her eyes.
"I am sorry. I will leave you." Snape walked out of Amelia's office leaving the folded parchment on her desk. Amelia raised her hand and wiped away her tears. Her heart ached for her mother. She couldn't believe the pain that her mother had to go though for 23 years. Amelia would often think that it was all her fault for her mother's pain but she was not and her mother assured her of that.
Amelia walked into her bed room and lay down on her bed. She missed her mother dearly and every time she thought of her mother’s death the more and more she began to hate her blasted father. Why did she have to be the child of the most feared and hated man she knew? Why? Amelia closed her eyes as the tears trickled down.
