Chapter 2: A Promising Interlude
Madam Rosmerta stopped to take a short but much needed break. She surveyed the crowded inn. This was the busiest they had been in a long time. Excitement was in the air as wizards and witches from surrounding areas flooded to the small village to enjoy the Annual Hogsmeade Festival. She was very busy. She even had to hire extra help to keep up the quality of service that was expected from The Three Broomsticks.
Rosmerta had to admit that she was glad they were so busy. It kept her from thinking about Lucius Malfoy. Now, as she took a minute to herself, she found her thoughts drawn once again to the dark wizard. What had she been thinking? She had worked so hard to remove him from her life. In a single evening, she had let him break through the shield she had so carefully erected. Now she could not stop thinking about him. Her mind continuously returned to the incident of a few days ago. Unfortunately, it did not stop there. Her thoughts were also invaded by images of twenty years ago. Images she had previously exercised from her memory.
Damn him.
However, she knew it was her own fault. She had been the one to initiate the contact between them. She could have just let him pay her and that would have been that. Rosmerta sighed deeply. She couldn’t resist. The way he looked, the sound of his voice, and the way he smelled was all so familiar and enticing. The sum of it all was irresistible to her.
She chided herself for her vulnerability. She had seen him many times in the last twenty ye He He often came in the pub with other wizards for important meetings and private discussions. She had previously been able to close herself off. It was as if they had never been together. She had to admit that a part of that was her anger at him. Anger for the past. Anger for his marriage to Narcissa Black. Even though she didn’t delude herself into thinking that he really loved her (no matter what he whispered to her in the aftermath of their passion), she knew he felt more for her than for the pureblood witch he married.
Rosmerta shook her head. The past was done. No need in torturing herself with what could have been. Now that she had started it, she was determined to enjoy their time together without giving it more importance than it deserved. She would use him as he has used her many times before.
She needed to get back to work. Many things needed to be done. As she stood up one of her young employees rushed up to her.
“Madam Rosmerta, The Minister of Magic has just arrived.”
Rosmerta looked out the window at the official coach of the Minister. Damn. She was not prepared for this today. He usually gave her advance warning when he was arriving. Something important must be happening that necessitated a private meeting. Her assumption was confirmed when she noticed that Albus Dumbledore had also arrived. Although she couldn’t see all the wizards who would be involved in the meeting she knew from experience that at the very least Severus Snape would also be there as the other representative from Hogwarts. Sometimes Minerva McGonagall would also attend but not always. She supposed someone had to remain at Hogwarts to be in charge while Dumbledore was absent. She also knew that the Minister would bring a representative with him. She didn’t even need to look to know who that was. It was always the same wizard.
Lucius Malfoy.
She definitely wasn’t ready to face him again. Not while her feelings were still so raw. However, she couldn’t send an underling in her stead. These were important people. They would expect no less than the proprietor to assist them. Toughen up, she told herself, and do your job.
Rosmerta motioned for the young girl, Mae to follow her as she hurried to the door to greet the Minister of Magic.
“Good Evening, sir.” She smiled warmly at him. “Can I take your cloak?”
“Thank you, Madam Rosmerta.” He handed her his cloak. “I am sorry we are here on short notice but we will need our usual room.”
“Of course, sir.” She nodded to the young witch beside her. Mae hurried off to get the room ready.
Rosmerta greeted each guest in turn, taking his cloak and smiling warmly. She noticed Lucius had fallen back to the end of the group. The others had moved on as she reached the tall wizard.
“Good evening, Madam Rosmerta,” he said smoothly. His eyes glittered and she wondered what he was thinking.
“Good evening, Mr. Malfoy,” she answered politely. “Would you like me to relieve you of your cloak?”
He gazed intently at her. The look he gave her removed any question she had as to what he was thinking about. The last time he had removed his cloak for her…
Lucius smirked at her as she hurriedly looked away. She needed to keep her wits about her and she couldn’t do it while he was looking at her like that.
She followed the party up the stairs to one of the private rooms. As the members of the group sat at the table, Rosmerta inventoried what they would need in her head. Although they did not usually vary in what they wanted, she knew better than to take it for granted. She went around the table taking each of their order. Today, there were only four. Dumbledore and Snape were there from the school. Fudge and Malfoy were from the Ministry.
They were already deep in conversation when she reached Lucius to get his order. He took his time and she immediately felt his stalling was deliberate. She wanted nothing more than to tell him off but she didn’t dare in the present company. Okay, well maybe there was something that she wanted more, but she would not dwell on those thoughts.
“What do you suggest?” he asked her. His eyes glinted in amusement. “Tell me, Madam Rosmerta, what is good here?”
“I can assure you, Mr. Malfoy,” ans answered cheekily, “everything is good here.”
“Ah,” his voice purred. “I have heard that.”
Snape interrupted their bantering. “Just order something, Lucius. I don’t have all day for this.”
“Fine, then,” he glanced at her once again and smirked. “Just give me my usual.”
Bastard. She remembered vividly what his ‘usual’ was and it involved her on her knees in front of him. The memory of it arose unbidden and she could almost taste him. She unconsciously licked her lips and was rewarded by the darkening of Lucius’ eyes.
She had to control her thoughts better! She gave Lucius an evil look as she left the room to get her guests refreshments.
Her thoughts were jumbled as she walked down the corridor to the stairs. He was tormenting her and she had to admit that although she was frustrated by his actions she was also aroused. This was not the time for it though, she reminded herself. This was her livelihood. She couldn’t afford to offend anyone or to be anything but the sole of discretion.
Suddenly, Rosmerta felt herself being pulled into a dark corner. She did not even have time to panic. Although she couldn’t see her assailant, the scent of him was unmistakable.
“Lucius.” Although her voice was h, he, her heart was beating wildly. “What are you doing?”
“I needed to talk to you,” he answered huskily. He pressed her up against the wall. Time seemed to stand still as they stood that way for a moment, each trying to catch their breath.
“Well?” she encouraged him to talk. Anything to keep her mind off his body that was lightly pressed into her.
“I needed to tell you that I have had regrets about the other night.”
“Oh,” Rosmerta replied. He regretted their time together. She felt a weight rest heavily on her chest. However, she would not give him the satisfaction of seeing how this news affected her. She looked up into his cool blue eyes.
“Yes, I regret that I let you control me…” he continued. Rosmerta eyes grew stormy as her anger grew. “And because of this I did not get the chance to taste you.”
Rosmerta’s look changed from anger to confusion. “Lucius, what are you on about?”
“It has been twenty years, my dear, and I would like to taste you.”
“You will have your chance, Lucius, later.”
“Now,” he said simply.
She felt panic mixed with excitement. What was he suggesting?
“My guests are waiting for their refreshments,” she tried to reason with him.
He would not be deterred. “I am waiting for my refreshment, Rosmerta.
“Lucius, you are such a smug, arrogant, bastard.”
“As you are fond of telling me, my dear.”
She decided the best course of action was to just walk away from the absurd situation. As she tried to move past him, he pulled her against him. Before she could react, he lifted her skirt and his hand slid up her inner thigh. Rosmerta felt herself go weak.
“Lucius.” Her voice was full of desire.
“Shh” He moved her knickers aside to reach his intended goal. His fingers dipped inside her and before she even had a chance to enjoy it, he had removed his hand. She watched transfixed as he brought his wet fingers up to his lips. He closed his eyes as he enjoyed the taste of her. Her breathing was labored. She couldn’t believe how erotic it was to watch him.
He opened his eyes and gazed at her. “I need more.”
As the meaning of his words penetrated her bemused mind, Lucius knelt down in front of her. He once again lifted her skirt.
“Lucius, No!” She tried to pull her skirt down. “I have guests. Someone could see us. Please don’t…”
Her tirade was silenced by the feel of his tongue on her sensitive skin. All thought was gone as she leaned against the wall for support. It felt so lovely, no…exquisite.
“Lucius,” she gasped. She buried her hands into his silky hair trying to pull him closer to her. She felt as if she was on the edge as he licked and sucked at her core.
Suddenly, she heard voices close to where they were.
“Mae, have you seen Madam Rosmerta?”
“I thought she was downstairs,” was the young girls reply.
“She is not there. I can’t seem to find her.”
“Have you tried the cellar?”
“No, that is where she must be.”
The voices faded as her two employees walked downstairs.
Lucius also heard the conversation and for once had the good sense to take heed. As he stood up, Rosmerta sighed in frustration. He smiled wickedly at her.
“Is something the matter, my dear?”
“Bugger off, Lucius.” She glared at him. “I have work to do.” Then without looking back, she walked down the stairs. Lucius watched her with a satisfied look on his handsome features.
Several hours later an exhausted and extremely frustrated Rosmerta watched as the men rose to leave. Finally, she thought. She wasn’t sure how much more she could take. At every opportunity, Lucius had accidentally touched her or made some innuendo, which only she understood. Her senses were in overload. She needed peace.
No, she told herself, you need release. And, she knew just the bastard to provide it.
As always, Lucius was the last to leave the room.
“Lucius,” she whispered fiercely before he was completely out the door.
“Did you need something, Madam Rosmerta?” he asked her formally. He turned and gazed at her innocently.
“Yes, you bastard,” she replied heatedly. “You can come back here tonight and take care of this little problem that you created.”
Lucius raised his eyebrows at her. “Indeed, Madam. I wish I could help you but unfortunately I have family business to attend to tonight.”
Rosmerta was very angry. She wasn’t sure why she was so ups Was Was it because he couldn’t come back? Or, because it was family business that kept him away.
“Then I guess I will have to take care of it myself.”
“My dear, I wish I could be here to witness that.” Lucius gave her a wolfish smile before turning and leaving her once more.
