Colin did not know when Harry would need him again, but the
relief from knowing that Harry would need him was enough.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> He even managed to stop following Harry
around. He did however let an
occasionally all right Harry when he
did see him. Harry would always manage
to answer no matter what he was doing.
Colin did notice a difference now that his camera was gone but
it never matter to him. He was Harry’s
and that’s what counted.
It was while Colin, Ginny and a few other Gryffindors in his
year were studying together that he would seemly cause himself to get closer to
Harry.
Dennis was bouncing around seemly in the way, “Can’t we just
go out to the lake for a little while?”
“No Dennis,” Ginny snapped for Colin.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Colin had never learned how to snap.
“What’s wrong with you its always study, study, study?style='mso-spacerun:yes'> I have one thing to say to you…Hermione,”
Dennis whined.
Everyone restrained a laugh because Ginny was good friends
with Hermione. “Ordinary Wizarding
Level,” Colin explained, “That’s all I have to say.”
Dennis flopped on the couch angrily it was that camera it
had changed Colin. Ron and Harry walked
in the common room whispering about something.
It was only odd because Ron and Hermione were still fighting which
caused Harry to steer clear of both of them so as not to be accused of choosing
sides.
“All right Harry!”
Dennis called jumping to his feet.
Colin tensed at Dennis’s use of his words with Harry.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Harry flickered a smile at Colin anyway while
he answered Dennis with a roll of his eyes, which made Colin feel a bit
better. Dennis hopped over to see what
Ron and Harry were working on.
“Finally,” one of Colin’s dorm mates said.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> There was silence in commcommon room except
for the rustling of scrolls, the scribble of quills, and Ron’s whispering to
Harry.
Dennis seemed enthralled and Colin fidgeted when Harry
seemed to give him his attention. But
Colin had OWLs and he was under strict rules to stay away.
After about thirty minutes Dennis stood doing an excited
dance and following the older boys to the message board, “Quidditch,” Ginny
murmured.
“What?” A boy named Keith glanced up from his essay.
“Harry and Ron are the only ones left on the team,” Ginny
explained.
“What about you Ginny?” Samantha asked putting her essay on
the table.
“I was a temp, besides its me or Harry,” Ginny smiled, there
was a nod from the fifth years.< sty style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “So I
guess I’ll try out for a chaser.”
“Me too,” Keith grinned happily.
“Ron!” Seamus called
from the stairs of the boys’ dorm, “Beater.”
Ron rolled his eyes and signed Seamus’s name under the beater
position. That caused a rush of people
or about ten for chaser and five for the more dangerous beater position.
It was only during dinner that Colin had the nerve to sign
up for beater position.
cloaser to Harry but because he wanted to play.
Harry had much to do with that, Colin’s love for the game grew from his
love of watching Harry play. Colin hoped
Harry would not get upset at him for that.
But, surely if he was he could just not pick Colin for the position.
Tryouts quickly followed a snicker filled the beaters when
Colin walked up. Obviously they were
confused, he was no longer the little kid he use to be.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> He was not in a strange denial that he could
play and he really could not. He knew he
had no chance as being as good as Fred and George Weasley, but he could play.
“Harry,” Ron whined.
“You have to let him tryout Ron,” Harry was looking at the
sign up list apparently they were co-captains.
Colin folded his arms there was little doubt in anyone’s
mind who Ron was whining about. Harry
brought out the box of practice balls, “Ok this is a quaffle.”
“Harry!” Ron groaned,
“If they don’t know what balls we play with are.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> I do not think they should be here.”
“Well I didn’t know,” Harry shrugged.
“You are an exception,” Ron groaned, “Lets just see howy
fy
fly.”
“When do I get to use a bat,” a rather large seventh year
spat everyone wisely backed away from him, except Colin who did not find the
need to. He was after all under the
protection of one of the greatest wizards of all time.
“Ron is riget’set’s see how you fly,” Harry spoke up
mounting his broom everyone followed his example.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Ron kicked off first.
Colin tried to steer clear of Harry he wanted to get the
position because Ron thought he deserved it.
Although he stayed rather behind most of the other flyer Colin did not think
that he needed to show off.
After a hour of flying around Ron and Harry narrowed things
down to five chasers and four beaters.
Much to Ron’s surprise and Colin’s delight he was one of them.
“Do I get to use a bat now,” the seventh year asked causing
another scatter of people.
“I’ll release the balls,” Ron explained, “You chasers
practice passing to each other and you beaters practice controlling the
bludgers.”
“So I get to use a bat?”
“If you have the coordination,” Colin mocked just a bit too
loudly.
The seventh year grabbed the he ofe of Colin’s broom pulling
Colin towards him, “What?” he glared at
Colin. Colin tensed slightly looking
towards the ground, “Sit still and I’ll show you,” the seventh year pulled back
and swung his free fist at Colin.
Colin ducked barely, “Stop!”
Harry scolded as Ron released the blugders and tossed the quaffle to
Ginny. He arrived back with four bats.
The seventh year released Colin’s broom and flew over to
meet Ron. Harry gave Colin a warning
look.
“I’m surry,” Colin lowered his head.
“Don’t be sorry just be careful,” Harry flew passed him over
towards the chasers.
“Colin,” Ron called tossing Colin his bat.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Colin caught it and almost instantly had to
hit a bludger.
The tryouts went fair; Ron and Harry had trouble deciding
between the chasers while the seventh year thought it was more fun ramming
people and smacking them with his bat.
Harry and Ron had enough bruises to be annoyed.
Seamus pretty much had nailed his position while the
remaining beater could not handle flying and using a bat so the second position
as open to Colin and the seventh year. Ginny and Lavender had earned their
positions as chasers. So while the
tryouts were winding down the seventh year had to make sure he got his position
that and he had a score to settle.
No one saw it coming including Colin.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> The seventh year flew straight at him.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Harry looked away excepting another blow from
the seventh year which he seemed to be doing to everyone all day.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> He did not except that the seventh year would
smack upside the head after ramming Colin in the stomach with his full force
and his broom handle.
“Colin!” Ginny’s
voice caught. It gained Harry’s
attention as Colin hit the pitch.
“What the hell was that!”
Ron yelled
“I thought he was going to hit the bludger at the chasers,”
the seventh year made an excuse, “I’d do the exact same thing to the
slytherins”

“You will not!” Ron growled slightly hoping he would too,
“That’s against my rules.”
“If you say so you are their king,” he mumbled the last part
Ron heard it anyw/p>

Harry and the rest of the try outers reached the ground,
“Colin,” Harry knelt next to him trying to keep a strictly captains worry for

“It’s all right Harry,” Colin moaned trying to sit up.

“No, no,” Ginny knelt on Colin’s other side pushing him back
on the ground, “he whacked you in the head.”
“Hard,” Lavender said pointing to half of a bat a few feet
away.
Ginny inspected the back of his head at that, “Merlin,” she
whispered her hand smeared with blood.
Colin fidgeted, “stay.”
“You two do something,” Harry ordered he wasn’t sure what
the order was but a few people did leave.
Harry glared at where Ron was still arguing with the seventh year.
“He learned that from mum,” Ginny said Harry smirked as
Ginny stroke a hand though Colin’s hair fixing it.
Harry felt a twinge of jealousy, “Come on Colin, I’ll help
you to the hospital wing.”
“Harry is that wise you shouldn’t just…” but Harry had
already gotten Colin to his feet. Colin
felt pretty solid on his feet especially with Harry’s arm around him.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Colin gave him an appreciative look Ginny
followed closely behind complaining.
“It doesn’t hurt Ginny,” Colin repeated shortly for the
fifth time.
“Are you sure?” Colin was going to answer a short yes but it
had come from Harry this time. That
stopped him. Harry managed to catch
Colin’s e
fear in his Harry’s eyes.
“Yes,” Colin said softly, “I hope I didn’t loose my chance
at the position.”
“We’ll see about that,” Harry focused on the root.
Ginny held the door to the hospital wing open, “Oh good,”
Pompey said when Colin sat on a bed, “This wouldn’t take much time.”
Ginny looked relieved, “Harry I’m going to see about the
rest of the try-outs,” Ginny waved them good-bye.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> (Isn’t it convenient how when characters get
in the way you can just make them leave?)
“I’m surry, Harry,” Colin felt guilty.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Harry did not want to lose him why had he put
himself in that situation. Why had he,
Colin make Harry afraid for him because of him?
Harry patted Colin’s shoulder, “You were careful it
happens.”
Madame came back holding a potion, “Drink you can leave in
twenty minutes.”
Harry watched Colin swallow the potion before straightening
Colin’s mop of hair out. Colin shot a
smile at him. “I miss you,” Harry
breathed.
Colin squeezed Harry’s hand, “I’m here when you just can’t
stand it anymore.”
“Stand it?”
“Missing me,” Colin winked.
Harry laughed which startled Colin and Harry himself, “You haven’t
laughed since…”
“I know,” Harry closed his eyes painfully.
“Its something else,” Colin noted Harry nodded.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> His slow isolation was because of something
that was not part of Harry’s loss of his godfather.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Something he could not speak of even with his
closest friends. “I’ll take care of you
Harry,” Colin spoke.
Harry did not seem changed by that, he knew Colin would
honestly try and he was almost certain Colin would never leave his side but
Harry had to do this not Colin.
“All right you can go,” Pompey waved and Colin hopped down
from the bed Harry led the way back to the common room.
“I did not ask to be their hero,” Harry opened up some of
the concerns swishing though his head.
“You do not have to you know,” Colin rubbed the back of his
head he had a rather large bump that still hurt but it was much better as far
as he could tell, “You could stay with me.
We could live in the country get dogs, you like dogs?”
“That sounds really great Colin,” Harry said not thrown off by
Colin’s sudden hopes of the future.
“But…”
prompted.
“I can’t just sit around and let Voldemort take over!style='mso-spacerun:yes'> I didn’t ask to be their hero but them, us,
you need a hero,” Harry frowned. “I
think if only my Aunt and Uncle wering ing to be saved I’d still do it.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> No one deserves to die because of what they
are.”
“You’re not my hero Harry,” Colin admitted.
“You’re many things to me but not my hero.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Dumbledore is…he’s the only one that keeps
you safe here,” Colin explained.
Harry grinned softly, “Well then that’s one less person I
have to save.” Colin snorted jealously, “Dumbledore deserves to be a hero.”
“Beater bats,” Colin said the password the password the
portrait swung open.

“Colin, are you ok?” Dennis asked promptly when he
entered. Harry went to sit with Hermione
as Colin answered Dennis’s questions.
