Author's Note

An Author’s Note

To clear up any confusion, I have added the following Author’s Note.

1) to ArienAstera “…they are a little old to be pregnant, aren\'t they?”

Hermione is rather old to be pregnant, (she’d be between 47 and 48). Not advisable for a woman in the Muggle world to bear a child at that age, but technically it is perfectly possible - some woman hereditarily don’t reach Menopause until their fifties.

To add to that: in the Wizarding World, I imagined all sorts of potions and charms would be available to delay menopause, aid fertility, keep more mature Witches safe during pregnancy that we cannoke ake advantage of in our less magical life.

Why so old? Well, firstly I imagined that Hermione had a great career ahead of her, and she’d probably graduated from Hogwarts to go on to better things, before settling down later in life to have children. By that time, she has already made her mark upon the world, and can return to work whenever she damn well pleases.

(Note: Author admits to living vicariously through Hermione Granger, as she herself did not do this. Such is life. Does that make it a Mary Sue, or an anti-Mary Sue?)

2) to elementaldeity “Did Hermione have anything to do with his demise?”

Yes. Well, sort of. This is the way I see things happening…

She holds him at wand-point, forces him to write a confession about the seven Orders of Merlin in exchange for secrecy regarding his evil plot to keep Severus without progeny.

He signs, but unfortunately the shock of it all is just too much for him, and he suffers the massive cardiac arrest which takes his life and therefore fulfils the Prophecy. He is 190-odd years old, after all.

Hermione returns to Hogwarts, having booked a meal for two in Maxim’s, and true to her promise she says nothing to Severus about how evil Dumbledore really is. One wouldn’t wish to upset the sweet man, would one?

3) to anon “yr chactracers r totaly OOC. this sux.”

Yes, it’s hugely OOC. That was the idea. I thought if you were going to shove one character out, then why not the lot of them? Hence the Title – Canon Fodder.

Then again…

In my opinion, it’s not too far outside the realm of possibility that Albus is secretly evil. We don’t know a great deal about him, really, apart from his brother being rather fond of goats, and that he’s a powerful wizard. But he’s also kept things from Ha see seems to be using him rather a lot throughout the whole HP series. He seems to adjust the world to fit in with what he deems right. What is really hiding behind that fluffy beard and those twinkling eyes?

OK, I admit it, I just felt like having a play with Evil!Bastard!Dumbledore. Sorry if you thought it sucked.

Hermione, I think, is pretty much in canon. (Rears back from Doormat!Hermione supporters). No, really. She’s canny, and intelligent, and loyal, and honest, and sneaky enough to get her teeth fixed the way she wants them. I think she stays in canon in her abhorrence of the evil visited upon her fiancé, and fights against the unfairness of Severus missing out on his Orders of Merlin.

Sweet, solicitous Severus is WAY out of the canon we are given so far. But who knows? Perhaps knowing true love can change a man. Perhaps she’s fantastically good in bed, and he’s intoxicated with gratitude?

And finally…

Many thanks to all who reviewed (and emailed me about) this story.
