Chapter Two: A New Professor

Hermione walked into the Great Hall with Harry and Ron, pushing a slightly bushy lock away from her face. She had filled out a bit over the years, and her hair was a few inches longer than in previous years. She hadn’t grown much, but never seemed to mind. It’s not like it was an important thing in her life.

Sitting at the Gryffindor table with her friends as always, she looked up and saw that the seat for the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was empty once more. It was no surprise. After the last one had just disappeared into the night in the middle of the year, she was sure that someone (most likely Snape) had somehow cursed the chair as revenge to keep anyone from staying there very long.

McGonagall brought out the Sorting Hat and stool before leading the new batch of students into the room. She adjusted her glasses and unrolled a long, slightly crinkled scroll and called out the first name on the list.

“Anderson, Mary!”

A skinny girl with short red hair and a few freckles sat down on the stool, looking a bit nervous. She put on the hat and after a moment, it shouted out “Ravenclaw!” Mary gp anp and scurried to the Ravenclaw table where her new housemates were cheering.

After what seemed like eternity, Professor McGonagall sounded the last name and rolled up the scroll, making her way up to the High Table. Dumbledore stood up and cleared his throat to quiet the room down a n a moment, it grudgingly complied.

“I would like to welcome of you students, old and new, to another year of Hogwarts. I would also like to introduce out new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, who seems to be running a bit late.”

A few snickers popped up around the room, and Hermione scoffed a bit. A teacher, being late? Especially on the first day? I wonder what crazy he found this time. Except for Lupin, most of them had been a touch mad. Alright, completely nuts or utterly evil. Her head snapped up as she looked to the entrance, having heard a strangely familiar voice.

“I apologize for my tardiness Professor, traffic is horrible around these parts.”

There stood the man she had seen singing. The leading man of Beautiful Death. He had the same silver hair, muscular body, and lovely voice. He was currently wearing black leather pants that looked like a poured on second skin, boots that slid seamlessly into the pants, and a black tank top that showed off his chiseled figure. A motorcycle helmet was tucked under his arm and there was a sword strapped onto his back.

Silence filled the room before whispers broke out all over the place. Harry and Ron were not staring at the six new newcomer, but Hermione, whose jaw had dropped and was silently mouthing “No way, no way.”

It couldn’t be. What was the leader of a metal band doing teaching at Hogwarts? She looked up at Dumbledore, who was grinning like a madman.

“I imagine it is,” The Headmaster replied. “But you are here, and that is what currently matters. Students, I am proud to introduce your new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, Professor Gabriel Iuto Lunax.”

A few people clapped before the Great Hall burst into slightly shocked applause, both at his odd attire and his beauty. Hermione did nothing but stare. In the light of the room, she could fully appreciate his beauty, those carved Romanesque features, brilliant waist-long hair that flowed like a silver river…

AHH! By Merlin, what was she doing? She was fantasizing about a teacher! Well, her subconscious argued, you didn’t know he was a teacher until a minute ago!

Gabriel bowed at the waist deeply, and smiled wickedly, showing perfect white teeth. He directed his drop-dead gorgeous gaze to Hermione, and she felt urgeurge to hide. He remembered her! She felt a flush mounting on her cheeks, which only intensified as she felt her best friend’s gazes descend on her as well, wondering why she was blushing.

Hermione was startled as she thought she heard him mutter the words ‘No fucking way’ under his breath. She dismissed it as her own thought as he spoke again.

“Thank you for the welcome. I can only hope that this good spirit will last the entire year.”

His words were enough to remind the entire school of his job and that Voldemort was still out in the open. Another silence ensued, although this time it was one of mourning. Dumbledore cleared his throat once more before speaking.

“Now that the matter of our staff is settled, I suggest we tuck in before the night passes.”

The students got the hint and as the food appeared, began their normal conversations, speaking of the summer and such. Only Hermione was silent, poking at her food and eating little. Something about his presence stirred something in her. It wasn’t lust, but just the fact that she knew that there was something different about this Gabriel Lunax and she was determined to find out what.

So she watched him during the entire meal. One thing she noted was that he ate nothing, drinking occasionally from a hip flask. It reminded her of Professor Moody, or at the least his double. While his behavior could be considered paranoid, Professor Lunax seemed like a secure man, or at the least very confident.

Again, she was snapped out of her musings by Harry.

“Are you done, ‘Mione?”

“Yeah.” She muttered and got up from her seat, not noticing the cold storm grey eyes watching as she walked out of the Great Hall.
