Author's Notes: Okay, so this fic has been rattling around in my brain for a while now. It's probably going to be rather long (possibly novel length), and the plot may get somewhat confusing at times. There may also be moments wheopleople seem OOC. I'll try to avoid that as much as possible, but if it happens, you've been warned. As always, Angel is Spike's sire. Enjoy!

Remus watched the emotions flash across the young woman's face as she saw him. Idly, he wondered how he had managed to make such a strong impression on her when theonlyonly met for mere moments the daforefore. However, before he could get too lost in his own thoughts, she had stepped out of the portrait hole and was speaking.
"So I take it you drew the shortest straw?" she quipped, giving him a self-deprecating smirk.
Remus frowned slightly. "Not exactly. Your rooms happen to be closest to mine.
And I was looking forward to an opportunity to speak with you more extensively, in relative privacy," he replied.
Faith raised an eyebrow, pushing off from the wall she'd been leaning against. "Sounds good to me. Ask away," she stated.
Once again, he gave her a small frown. "Pardon?" he asked.
The Slayer sighed, rolling her eyes. "Oh, come on. I know you're just dying to know. Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, getting the chance to talk to an actual Slayer? And one who's seen both the light and dark? I bet you've been aching to ask for every little detail since you found out I was coming here." Holding her arms out, she grinned. "So, what are you waiting for? Start asking."
Remus sighed, shaking his head slightly. "Ms..." Frowning, he tilted his head slightly. "I apologize, I'm afraid that your last name escapes me at the moment," he apologized.
Faith shrugged. "That's because I didn't tell you it. See, I ain't exactly got one. At least, not one I want to use. It's just Faith," she replied calmly. Patting down her pockets, she stopped when she remembered that she wasn't allowed to smoke in Hogwarts.
That was going to get old fast.
The Professor nodded. "Very well. Faith, I believe we somehow got off to a bad start. I have no intentions of interrogating you. I merely thought that you would have questions of your own that I could help you with." Suddenly, he smiled. "Although, if you feel the sudden need to discuss things that you may have seen or fought, I certainly wouldn't stop you."
The brunette laughed. "All right. You can ask me something, then I'll ask you something. Sort of give and take?" she questioned.
"That's sounds like a wonderful idea. And in the meantime, I'll give you theormaormal tour of Hogwarts," he stated.
Faith raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, but I already got the basic tour. And aren't you supposed to take me to the Great Hall so I can face the firing squad?"
The werewolf laughed softly. "That is why I said "˜informal'. You'll find that there are several areas of this school that very few people know about, save a select few," he explained. "And don't worry about dinner. We'll make it there in plenty of time." He chose not to comment on her view of the impending introduction to the students.
Offering her his elbow, he smiled when she linked her arm with his. Then, leading them down the corridor, he glanced at her. "All right. Tell me, how old were you when you became a Slayer?" he wondered.
Faith smiled. "Fifteen. And it's "˜called'. I was called," she replied.
He ed. ed. "Very well. Your turn."
Biting her lip, Faith studied him for a moment. Then, she questioned, "How old were you when you got bit?"
Remus tensed slightly, but gave her an impressed look. "I'm assuming you're referring to my lycanthropy?" he asked.
Faith raised an eyebrow. "If that means when you became a werewolf, yeah. If that means something else, I'm really not wanting to know," she answered.
Laughing, he shook his head. "Faith, I have a feeling that you and I have a great deal to learn from one another." Then, as he led her further into the castle, he began to tell her the tale of his transformation.

By the time they arrived at the Great Hall, students were beginning to trail in a few at a time. However, due to the man beside her, Faith hardly noticed them.
She honestly couldn't remember the last time she'd had so much fun just walking and talking with someone, especially a male. And, while she wasn't at all attracted to him, she could see herself easily becoming friends with Remus Lupin.
He was so laid back and easy going that hmindminded her quite a bit of Oz, which she found more than ironic. Although, while he certainly was capable of being quiet and merely listening, once he got on a topic he enjoyed, he would talk quite a bit.
Laughing at the story he'd just finished telling her of his times as a student at Hogwarts, she followed him to the Head Table and sat down in that bat beside hiookiooking around, she smiled and nodded at the other teacheher her gaze landing on Snape last.
Was it just her or was he scowling more than usual?
"You're going to do fine, Faith. And don't pay any attention to Severus. I've known him since we were teenagers. He's always like that," Lupin whispered in her ear.
Chuckling, Faith nodded. "Now that I have to hear about," she murmured, just as Dumbledore stood up.
McGonagall gently tapped her glass with a fork and the students all feel silent. Turning toward the teachers, they all noticed the newest addition.
Shifting uncomfortably in her seat, Faith tried to keep her face neutral as the Headmaster spoke.
"Good morning. I do believe most everyone is in attendance now, and for those who aren't I trust you will inform them of this announcement. As most of you have noticed, we have a new teacher at Hogwarts. Now, while normally new classes and Professors are introduced at the beginning of term, this is an exception. I have decided that, due to current events, a new cours to to be taken. This is a mandatory class for every student, and time will be made in your schedules for you to attend it. The class is called Muggle Self Defense, and will be taught by our newest addition to the staff, Faith." Looking at the brunette Slayer, he motioned for her to stand up.
Slowly, Faith stood up, facing the curious faces that stared up at her. Swallowing, she gave a half wave and smile, then quickly sat back down.
Dumbledore chuckled. "At her request, she wishes to go merely by her first name. However, this does not mean that you are to treat her any differently than you would any other Professor. She is to be respected at all times, and especially while in her class. You are going to be learning how to defend yourselves physically, without the use of magic, and it is imperative that you follow any directions she may give you closely. We wouldn't want Madam Pomfrey working overtime because of carelessness, now would we?" he asked. Staring at the sea of students for a moment, he finally nodded. "Very well. That's all for now. Please see the Prefects ofr rer respective Houses after breakfast to receive your new schedules. Enjoy your meal."
And with that, he sat back down and breakfast began.
Remus smiled, leaning closer so only Faith could hear him. "See? I told you that it would be all right. And it usually takes the students a few days before they start asking questions," he stated.
Faith grinned. "Great. A stay in execution," she quipped. "I wonder if I'll get a last request. Because, if so, I could seriously go for a smoking section in this place."
Laughing, they began eating their meal, neither noticing the frown Snape was sending their way.
******
Faith watched with no small amount of trepidation as the seventh year Gryffindord Sld Slytherins made their way across the courtyard to the area that Dumbledore had set aside for the new self-defense class. Remus had alr tol told her that they would be her most challenging group of students, not only because of the rivalry between the two Houses but also because of *who* was in one of the said Houses.
Harry Potter.
Apntlyntly, he was some sort of legend in the wizarding world. His parents, Lily and James, had been killed by this Voldemort guy that everyone was so frightened of, and somehow Harry had survived with only a scar to show for it. Remus hadn't gotten into muc much detail. And, after Faith learned that he had been a friend with both James and Lily, she could understand why.
Of course, knowing all of this only made her job more difficult. Because, when Dumbledore said that these kids needed to learn how to physically fight, what he really meant was Harry Potter needed to learn. Which meant that Faith had to try and turn a rather scrawny, extremely lucky young man into a street fighter.
Oh, yeah. And she didn't know how long she had, either. Because, according to Remus, Voldemort could attack at any time. Sighing, she gave the students a wary smile, waiting for the bell to ring before she began talking.
"All right. As you all know, my name is Faith. Just Faith. No Professor, Madam, or any of those other proper titles. Now, some of my other classes seem to have a problem with that. But, rumor is, you all won't. Rumor also has it that some of you enjoy not listening and breaking rules and doing all that other crap that makes high school so much fun. And, that's totally cool in my book," she commented.
Looking at all their nervous smiles, she frowned. "Just don't do it in my class."
Pacing in front of them, she noticed the significant gap between the two Houses. Deciding to mention that later, she continued her speech. "Now, I know most of you don't give a damn about learning how to fight without magic. In fact, some of you probably look down on Muggles as being inferior or whatever." Here, she glared at the smirking blonde boy wearing the Slytherin colors.
He met her gaze unflinching.
Licking her lips, she grinned. "Well, whatever narrow minded ideas you have are yours to do with as you see fit. But, I'm here to tell you one thing." Here, she picked up one of the swords that was leaning against her weapons chest. Bending it in half, she reveled in their gasps of shock.
Smirking, she finished, "I ain't no Muggle."
The blonde boy was the first to recover. Narrowing his eyes, he hissed, "That was some sort of trick."
Faith raised an eyebrow. "What's your name?" she asked.
He gave her a sinister smile. "Draco Malfoy."
Shrugging, she bent the sword back to its original position. "Well, if you think I'm lying, Malfoy, you try it," she said. Walking up to him, she handed him the sword, hilt first.
He hesitated, looking from the weapon to her. Glancing around at his fellow students, his resolve strengthened. Glaring at her, he took the weapon from her hands. Standing up, he placed his hand on the blade and began trying to bend it as she just had.
After a moment, Faith looked at everyone else. "Now, while Malfoy's busy trying to make the record books as either the strongest teenager in the history of Hogwarts or the biggest idiot, why don't I explain what I mean?"
She watched as Harry Potter and his two friends began snickering behind their hands. Frowning, she turned to them. "I wouldn't be laughing too much, kiddies. If Malfoy hadn't spoken up first, something tells me one of you three would have. I saw the way you were trying to see if I had a wand on me."
Instantly, they sobered and she stepped back, looking at all the students. "Now, as I was saying. See, I may not be a witch, but I'm not a Muggle, either." Pausing, she waited until Draco had stopped his attempts at sword bending before she said, "I'm a Slayer."
Collectively, the group gasped.
Faith grinned. "I take it you've heard of me? Or, at least of Slayers?" she questioned.
Hermione Granger was the first to speak. "We studied you in Defense Against the Dark Arts just last year. And Professor Lupin also mentioned getting more in depth about the myth versus the reality this year," she stated.
Faith laughed. "No kidding, really? Damn, I'm gonna have to talk to Remus about spilling all my secrets," she teased, shaking her head. Hopping up on the small stage area that had been built specifically at her request, she looked at their eager faces.
"Well, I'm not sure what you've been told, or how much of your information is true, but I am a Slayer. And, before you go trying to correct me with the *the* Slayer stuff, let me explain. There are two of us. See, the Slayer died but came back. But, since she'd technically been dead, another Slayer was called. When *that* one died, I came to be."
Slowly, Draco raised his hand. Waiting until she nodded at him, he soberly asked, "What abilities do you have?"
Faith raised an eyebrow. "Well, what have you been told?" she wondered.
The blonde young man, who now seemed much more compliant since being knocked off his high horse, thought for a moment. "Extra strength and agility," he offered.
Hermione spoke up. "The ability to sense vampires," she added.
"You can take more pain?" Neville questioned hesitantly.
Faith shrugged. "Well, I don't know about the more pain. I just know it takes more to keep me down than your average human. And, I also heal quicker. Basically, I'm like a vampire, only without the drawbacks. I've got the strength, speed, senses, and ability to heal. And sometimes I get these prophetic dreams, but that tends to be more B's territory than mine," she answered.
After a second, she added, "Oh, and its not just vampires I can sense. It's most everything supernatural, although sometimes it's stronger than others. But, chances are if you're a vampire, demon..."
Harry quietly asked, "Werewolf?"
Faith nodded. "Yeah, werewolf. And most other things that can or does go bump in the night, I can tell. I'm also getting one helluva vibe from this place, although I was told it's probably because of the amount of magic that's being used here. Anat wat wicked forest over there," she said, motioning to the Forbidden Forest.
Hermione frowned, biting her lip. "So, then you can tell that Pro..." she trailed off, apparently not wanting to ask the question.
Faith raised an eyebrow. "What? That Professor Lupin is a werewolf? Yeah, I know all about that, just like everyone here does. And, you can relax. I'm not going to slay him." She noticed that all the Gryffindors breathed a sigh of relief while the majority of the Slytherins looked almost disappointed at this statement.
Shaking her head, she rested her elbows on her knees. "All right, let me clear this up right here and now. Just because it's different doesn't make it evil. You all should know that anyway. I mean, you're wizards and witches. Not exactly run of the mill normal, you know? And, the way I figure it is, if you aren't trying to go all dark and kill people, you're five by five in my book."
Jumping back to her feet, she clapped her hands. "All right. Enough about me. Let's talk about this class. Way I see it, by the time I'm through with you, you should all be able to walk into the worst part of any town and hold your own."
Hermione got a wide-eyed look. "That isn't going to be the final examination, is it?" she asked in slight fear.
Faith laughed, shaking her head. "No, that ain't the final." Grinning mischievously, she stated, "For the final you have to fight me "¦ and win."
