chapter 2

The next morning Remus sits in the teacher’s lounge waiting on his cousin to arrive. Snape, McGonagall, Hooch, and Trelawney are all sitting quietly getting ready for the day. They look up as the door bangs open and a very rough looking music Professor walks in. Today her shirt says “I’ll rise but I will not shine!”
She looks up and frowns. “Honestly Sybil, you’re wearing enough trinkets to repurchase the island of Manhattan!”
Trelawney grins. “Did you get it for me?”
She rolls her eyes and pulls something yellow out of her pocket. She tosses it towards the woman, enlarging it with a word. “You doubt my powers of persuasion?”
Trelawney grabs the smiley face pillow and gives it a squeeze. She grins as it intones “I see doom and gloom in your future!”
Alexis glares down at the tea pots at the main table. “Haven’t any of you heard of coffee? Who do I have to kill for a cup of coffee around here?”
Without even looking up, Snape lifts his cup and offers it to her. “ I trust you will be more pleasant after this?”
She grabs the cup and gulps half of it down. She smirks over the rim. “I’ll try but I cant promise.”
Remus walks over to one of the tea pots and changes it to coffee. “I forgot you’re not even remotely human before you’ve had your coffee.” He strides back to his seat.
“Look who’s talking dog face.” She mutters as she pours more into the cup in her hands and hands it back to Snape.
He takes it from her and lifts a brow. She picks up another cup, fills it and salutes him before drinking. Hooch watches in fascination before ending the silence. “I heard you just came from Phantom of the Opera. Wasn’t that a bit hard to do?”
Alexis frowns, leaning against the mantle of the fireplace.
“How?”
Hooch shrugs. “To pretend day after day that the man behind the mask is someone you care very much for when in the end you know he is hideous and cruel.”
Alexis tilts her head in thought. “Is he? How do you see that?”
Snape looks up from the Daily Prophet he is reading. “He torments and kills innocents. He threatens and tries to kill Christine’s lover. Should I go on?”
Suddenly her eyes lock on his. Remus sits back and whispers. “Uh oh! Here we go!”
She slowly steps towards Snape. “As! Ys! You believe that such a beast is unworthy of love, don’t you?” She gently sits down on the arm of his chair, eyes never leaving his. “ I believe that he is indeed loved. Even in the end Christine loves him. She tries to save him from death.”
Snape lifts a brow. “Interesting theory. Explain.”
She smirks lifting a brow. “Don’t you think it’s a bit early to be picking my brain, Professor?”
“Are you saying you cannot back your theory up?” He folds his hand in his lap, giving her his undivided attention.
“No. I’m saying I need more coffee.” She gets up and pours herself another cup.
“Ok. Christine loves her Angel of Music implicitly. She sees something very beautiful and yearning inside Erik that no one else does because all they see is the mask.”
She turns and reaches out, singing to him. “Those who have seen your face draw back in fear. But under the mask you wear….” She stops and smirks. “Music is more then noise. It’s ones heart and soul. She is telling him in this song that he is inside her.”
She sings again. “The Phantom of the Opera is here inside my mind.”
Hooch stares at her in shock. “Beautiful!”
Alexis sighs. “Thanks.” Her eyes look on Snape’s again. “Even through the whole play she only shows once any disgust towards him. When he pulls the mask from his face.” She walks over and gently reaches out, touching Snape’s cheek. “But she still reaches out to him, loving him still.” She draws away, walking back to the fire and her coffee.
McGonagall looks from Snape to Alexis, shocked to not see Snape pull away from her. “But what of the other, Raul or whatever his name is?”
She chuckles at the question. “There are different faces to love. I love Remus and Sirius but neither one the same way. And I believe the same holds true for Christine. She loves both but not the same way.”
Remus suddenly grins. “I love you, man!!”
She grins and runs over to jump in his lap. “I truly, madly, deeply love you too!!” She peppers his face with kisses.
Snape rolls his eyes and stands up. “Americans! Crazy, the whole lot of ya!”
She fr at at him as he stalks towards the door. “Hey! I resemble that remark!”
The door slams behind him and Remusheushes her off his lap, laughing at her. Hooch turns in her seat to stare at them in confusion. “Ok, what was that all about?”
Alexis smirks up at her from the floor. “What was what all about?”
Hooch motions towards the door Snape had just left through. “That!”
Alexis climbs to her feet and looks at the door. “That looks like a door that a very confused Potions Master just left through.”
Hooch rolls her eyes. “That’s what I’m talking about.”
She starts to walk to the door. “What are you talking about?”
Hooch gets frustrated. “Don’t you leave me high and dry! Snape!”
Alexis stops at the door and winks as she opens it. “I don’t think yelling his name will help. He’s probably in the dungeons by now!”
She disappears through the door, Hooch growling in frustration and Lupin laughing behind her.

By Monday morning she had one by one frustrated the whole staff by leaving every question only half answered at best. She finally makes her way to Snape’s office just before breakfast, gathering the list of volunteers for the talent show.
“But Professor! You can’t do this!” She hears Draco Malfoy whine.
“Mr. Malfoy, if I must participate than so shall a few chosen Slytherins. I suggest you come up with something very quick. Your time grows short.” Snape growls menacingly at the boy.
Alexis leans against the door, catching Snape’s attention. “I love the smell of lizards in the morning.” She steps inside and grabs the list from Draco’s hand. “Why Mr. Malfoy! I’m glad you decided to join our little party! Hope you have something good planned!”
Draco scowls and stalks out f the room. Snape glares at her as she grins happily after the boy.
