Chapter 2: Wedded Bliss
***~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~***

Harry stood at the front to the Great Hall next to Draco Malfoy. The groom was nervous and fidgeting at his side, very un-Malfoy behavior. Just as Harry thought that Draco was going to explode from the tension he had built up inside himself music began to play and the doors of the Great Hall opened wide. Draco stilled beside him when the first bridesmaid appeared.

Of Ginny’s gaggle of bridesmaids Harry only had eyes for one. The Matron of Honor… Hermione. Hermione Granger-Krum looked gorgeous. If you didn’t know that Hermione had given birth just four months ago you would be hard pressed to believe that she had ever been pregnant. The forest green shugghugged her body and displayed every curve she had.

Seeing Hermione now in this gorgeous dress reminded him of seeing her, really for the first time, on Victor Krum’s arm so long ago. It was fourth year during the Triwizard Tournament’s Yule Ball. That night was the first time he became aware of Hermione as a girl, that she wasn’t just ‘one of the boys’. He thought of her many times over the next three years but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything to her about how he felt for her. Too many things were pressing in on him at the time. First, was the DA and then what they all went through at the Department of Mysteries in fifth year. That was the moment he decided that if he could help it no one else would be hurt because of him and certainly not because they were romantically involved with him. So from fifth year on he tried to hold eone one at arm’s length. The only ones that broke through his armor were those who were at the Ministry that night. The six of them, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Luna and Ginny, became closer friends than any of them had imagined.

Harry broke out of his memories when Severus Snape began the ceremony. Harry had gotten laugh over this when he found out that Draco had gotten his surly godfather to officiate. To Harry’s surprise Snape’s voice was soft, reverent and thoughtful, holding none of the usual sarcasm or snark that Harry had become accustomed to as a student.

\"The wedding ring is the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual bond, which unites two loyal hearts in endless love. It is a seal of the vows Draco and Virginia make to one another. May the Old Ones bless these rings, that Virginia and Draco, who give them, and who wear them, may ever abide in thy peace. Living together in unity, love and happiness for the rest of their lives.\"

\"I used to be afraid of falling in love, of giving my heart away. How could I trust a woman to love me, to give to me all that I wanted to give to her? Ginny, when I met you, I realized how much we could share together. You have renewed my life: Today I join that life with yours. Take this ring, and be my wife.\" Draco gave his vows with all the seriousness that the occasion called for as he slid the band over Ginny’s finger.

\"What have I to give you, Draco? The promise to take you as my only love from this day forward, to stand by your side, to listen when you speak, to comfort you when you cry, and to join your laughter with my own. Take this ring, and be my husband.\" Ginny gave her vows with tears running freely down her cheeks as she in turn placed a band of gold over Draco’s finger.

Harry felt something deep inside give a lurch when Draco and Ginny produced two single red roses and Snape continued on.
\"Your gift to each other for your wedding today has been your wedding rings - which shall always be an outward demonstration of your vows of love and respect; and a public showing of your commitment to each other.

\"You now have what remains the most honorable title, which may exist between a man and a woman - the title of \"husband\" and \"wife.\" For your first gift as husband and wife, that gift will be a single rose.

\"In the past, the rose was considered a symbol of love and a single rose always meant only one thing - it meant the words \"I love you.\" So it is appropriate that for your first gift - as husband and wife - that gift would be a single rose.

\"Please exchange your first gift as husband and wife. In some ways it seems like you have not done anything at all. Just a moment ago you were holding one small rose - and now you are holding one small rose. In some ways, a marriage ceremony is like this. In some ways, tomorrow is going to seem no different than yesterday. But in fact today, just now, you both have given and received one of the most valuable and precious gifts of life - one I hope you always remember - the gift of true and abiding love within the devotion of marriage.

\"Draco and Virginia, I would ask that where ever you make your home in the future - whether it be a large and elegant home - or a small and graceful one - that you both pick one very special location for roses; so that on each anniversary of this truly wonderful occasion you both may take a rose to that spot both as a recommitment to your marriage - and a recommitment that THIS will be a marriage based upon love.

\"In every marriage there are times where it is difficult to find the right words. It is easiest to hurt who we most love. It is easiest to be most hurt by who we most love. It might be difficult sometimes to say the words, \"I am sorry\" or \"I forgive you\"; \"I need you\" or \"I am hurting\". If this should happen, if you simply can not find these words, leave a rose at that spot which both of you have selected - for that rose than says what matters most of all and should overpower all other things and all other words.
\"That rose says the words: \"I still love you.\" The other should accept this rose for the words, which cannot be found, and remember the love and hope that you both share today.

\"Draco and Virginia, if there is anything you remember of this marriage ceremony, it is that it was love that brought you here today, it is only love which can make it a glorious union, and it is by love which your marriage shall endure.\"

Harry had never expected such beautiful words to come from Severus Snape’s acid tongue. Harry looked across the dais and caught Hermione’s identical look of surprise over the usually surly Potion Master’s words. Harry broke into a grin though at Snape’s next words.

\"Well boy… kiss your bride already.\"

The hall broke out in to laughter at the snarky words. Amid the laughter Draco complied, sweeping a smiling Ginny into his arms and kissing her deeply. A moment later when Draco had finally released his new wife, Minerva McGonagall changed the decoration of the hall with a wave of her wand and the revelry began.

Several of Harry’s friends had gotten married over the years but no wedding had affected him like this. Something deep inside him ached for someone to hold, someone to love and again he realized that the one person who could fill that void was across the Hall chatting with Minerva and Pomona Sprout.

Harry sighed heavily and shook his head. He slid out of the hall and walked out into the cool night air, the Darkness wrapping around him like a blanket. He sat down on the stairs and rested his chin on his knees and watched the full moon glitter over the softly rippling water of the lake below. He didn’t know how long he sat there alone in the dark when a hand on his shoulder suddenly surprised him. He spun around quickly then sighed when his eyes met Ginny’s.

\"Are you all right Harry?\" She asked him with a touch of concern in her voice.

\"I’m all right Ginny.\" Harry said tonelessly.

\"Why didn’t you tell her Harry?\" Ginny’s voice came out of the darkness. \"If you loved her how could you let her marry someone else with out telling her?\"

\"Ginny you shouldn’t ask questions about things you know nothing about.\" Harry replied his voice dropping dangerously low.
\"I know plenty, Harry Potter.\" Ginny said heatedly. \"I watched all through your final year. I saw how you watched her every move. I saw how you turned green with jealousy when she and Ron started dating that year, how you tried to hide your delight when they broke up. I also saw how you hurt her when you suddenly couldn’t come to her wedding.\"

\"Ginny stop.\" Harry said tightly. \"Just stop all right. I know that I have made a mess of my personal life, but she was happy with Krum and I couldn’t watch her marry him. Not when I only wanted her for myself. Irt trt too much. I’m sorry Ginny, it must seem very selfish of me to go on and on about myself at your wedding. I’ll go.\" He finished sadly.

Harry stood and walked away toward the gates of Hogwarts ignoring Ginny’s calls behind him. He looked one last time to the brilliant lights that shone from with in the castle he had always regarded as his home then apparated into his empty flat. He warded his floo and the apartment against unwanted visitors and proceeded to drink the pain away.
