Chapter 2

That weekend was a Hogsmeade weekend for the students. Hermione decided she was going to go to the Three Broomsticks and enjoy a butterbeer. She had been so busy teaching and doing her own private research in Arithmacy that she convinced herself that she deserved a break.

She ordered a butterbeer and took a seat at a back table. The place was full of students, busy visiting and chatting about the Quidditch match that had taken place that day. She missed being at the Three Broomsticks with Harry and Ron, both had managed to come and visit her once a month, but they were each busy with their own families. Harry was married to Natalie and Ron was married to Natasha. Both are busy studying to become Aurors while their wives were still attending the Wizarding University. Hermione had graduated early since she had been able to test out of most of her classes. Ever since Harry and Ron had gotten married at a double wedding ceremony, they had been anxious for her to also marry. They had gotten together with her mother to try and find the perfect husband for her. It was nice to know that they cared about her happiness but she also felt it was t det demeaning. She would find her own man when she was ready. Thank you very much.

Hermione was waiting for her butterbeer when a handsome man approached her. “Hermione Granger?” he inquired.

“Yes?”

“I am Jonathon Bartholomew the third,” he offered his hand. She politely shook it, but he turned it over and kissed the back of her hand. “It is a pleasure to meet you.” She was immediately suspicious. “May I join you?”

“Please,” she said, offering him a chair. She knew what was going on, but just wanting to make sure. He was good looking and seemed polite enough. Sheuredured he deserved a chance. The waitress brought her the butterbeer she ordered and a glass of fire whiskey for Jonathon.

“I ordered before coming over,” he smiled, taking his glass and drinking from it. The waitress told them the amount for the drinks. Now Hermione was fully willing to pay for her own drink, but didn’t expect to pay for both of them.

She reached into her bag and pulled out her money. “She’s paying for mine too,” he said, taking another drink. glarglared at him as she reached back into her bag and pulled out some more money and handed it to the waitress who smiled and left.

“So,” he began, “I hear you are a professor or something.”

“I am a professor of Arithmacy at Hogwarts.”

“That’s right. Now, do you intend to teach when we are married o yoo you plan on baring children right away?”

“What?”

“I ask because I am quite busy with my own career, so you will be left at home on your own quite a bit, so it will be your choice. Oh and because I will be out of town a lot, I am giving you permission to take on a lover.”

“What?!”

“After all, I have several lovers around the world, so it would only be fair to allow you the same.”

“What makes you think I am going to marry you?!” she yelled.

“Who wouldn’t want to marry me?” he smiled. “After all, I am the most eligible bachelor in Europe.”

“Then by all means, why are you not married yet?” she snapped.

“Because I want a woman who will take care of things while I am away. According to your friends, you are that woman.”

Hermione’s eyes narrowed as she glared at him through slitted eyes. He just confirmed everything. “How are Harry and Ron?” she spat.

“They are just fine. I saw them at my last Quidditch match. You know the one where I caught the snitch in 68 seconds flat,” he beamed. ‘A Quidditch player,’ she thought, rolling her eyes.

She slammed her butterbeer and stood up. “I need to go.”

He stood up, “Yes, I believe you and I should get acquainted in bed before making a final decision on our marriage. I do want something to look forward to when coming home once a month.” He winked at her.

She couldn’t believe this guy. She was going to kill Harry and Ron. “No. You are going to stay here and finish your fire whiskey while I leave by myself.”

“You are actually refusing me Herm?” ?”

“You bet your ass I am,” she snapped, storming out of the Three Broomsticks.

Severus had been sitting at a side table, witnessing the whole scene. A part of him was quite pleased that he was not the only one being set up with another, but part of him also sympathized with her. Another part of him was relieved she had turned him down. She was too special to be married to a Quidditch player. He continued to drink his fire whiskey, watching the students. He was only there because it was his turn to watch over them.

~*~*~*~*~

There was a staff meeting and all professors were present. Theye abe about an hour into the meeting when the doors opened and a woman walked in. She wore a black cat suit, leaving nothing to the imagination. The woman gawked as the men drooled.

“Can I help you?” asked Albus, trying to keep his composure.

The woman, a tall brunette walked into the room. “Yes, I am here to see Severus Snape.” All eyes went to Severus as he rolled his eyes. Never had a visitor interrupted a staff meeting for Severus.

“Please come in,” said Albus. “Um, Severus - ” Severus quickly stood up, grabbed the woman by the arm and took her outside.

“The answer is no. Leave,” he snapped, not allowing her to answer. He then turned and went back into the staff room to continue the meeting. ‘Damn,’ he thought, ‘if only she had come when he was not in a meeting.’ He knew if he had sent her to his rooms, the staff would talk.

Hermione smiled at witnessing this, but hid it from the others.

This continued over the next month for both Severus and Hermione. She sent regular howlers to Harry and Ron each time a man came to visit her. She also sent a howler to her mother who insisted it was for her own good to meet a nice man. Severus didn’t dare tell his mother anything. She would only feed on his anger.

The final straw came when a redhead walked into his potions classroom and interrupted class. He had been teaching a group of sixth years when she came strutting in and began an erotic dance. Severus had to cancel class when he was unable to get the students’ attention.

He summoned for his mother to come to Hogwarts. They were in his office, yelling when Hermione happened to walk by.

“I told you to stay the hell out of my life!” he yelled at his mother.

“You pathetic, good for nothing bastard! You have no idea how hard it was to get such beautiful women to agree to marry you! In case you haven’t looked in the mirror Severus, you are repulsive and no witch would ever want to marry you without being persuaded to do so!”

“GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!” he yelled.

“I am not going anywhere! You are going to marry a pureblood witch and get me the inheritance that I have earned!”

“I don’t need the money and I don’t want the money!”

“Fine, you get married and give me the money!”

“Out!” he yelled, pointing to the door.

“Not until you say you are getting married!”

“Fine!” He stormed out of his office and ran smack into Hermione, knocking her down. Not thinking, he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into his office.

“Mother, this is my fiancé, Hermione Granger. We are getting married.” Hermione stared at him in shock, but kept her mouth and and quickly hid her surprise.

“You can’t marry a mudblood!” she screeched.

“Don’t you ever call my fiancé a mudblood you bitch!”

“If you marry her, I won’t get my money!”

“Exactly!”

“You will not marry her Severus. I swear to Lord Voldemort himself! You will not marry a mudblood!” Severus drew his wand at her words and aimed it for her heart.

“Mother, get the hell out of here before I end up in Azkaban for killing you!” His mother knew he wasn’t kidding. She grabbed her bag and ran from his office, never looking back.

Severus let go of Hermione’s arm and collapsed in a chair in front of his desk. He placed his head in his hands, rubbing his temples while his elbows rested on his knees. “Miss Granger, I must apologize for what you just witnessed and for getting you involved.”

“Apology accepted, but there is no need. Between Harry, Ron and my mother, I understand. At least I got my mother to stop after sending her enough howlers.”

“You don’t understand Miss Granger. There is more to it than just claiming you to be my fiancé.”

“What do you mean sir?”

He sat up straight, removing his hands from his face. “Miss Granger, I claimed that you were my fiancé and you did not rebuttal. We are now magically bounded and offici eng engaged.”

“What?”

“We are engaged Miss Granger, now please leave before it gets any worse!” he yelled. Hermione was just plain speechless, not knowing what to say so she just left.

Severus sat back down, knowing his mother could make things worse before they got better, but he was willing to take that risk just to have her out of his life.
