THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: FINDING KOBOL
CHAPTER 19
Returning to the camp, they found Athena pacing impatiently outside one of the tents. As soon as she saw them coming, she hurried toward them. "WELL?" she demnaded.
"It seems," Evan began with a teasing glint in his blue eyes, "that our beloved Roark is the Heir of the First Lord." He laughed when she froze, her eyes going to her nephew, to Evan, then back again, her mouth opening and closing.
"He's WHAT?!" she almost screeched.
"Evan," Roark sighed. "Was that really necessary? No," he said quickly when Evan started to open his mouth, "don't answer that. Aunt Athena, calm down. Everything is fine. He's right, though, I am, it seems, the Heir of the First Lord."
"HOW?" she demanded.
"Your guess is as good as ours," Adama shook his head, "but given your nephew's luck--"
"Grandfather, don't finish that is you know what's good for you," came the growl. followed by his chuckle. "Let's get out of the sun and we'll tell you what we've discovered so far."
Entering the tent designated the meal tent, Roark moved immediately to the cook area where a young woman he knew to be Kaley, an ensign off the Solaria was stirring something in a large pot.. "Captain Roark," she said, gladly handing the ladle to him as he picked up a spoon to taste the chili he had left instructions on how to make.
"Not bad, Kaley. A little more spice..." he reached for the spice jar, added a little, stirred. "Now, it just needs to simmer. Come join us, we have much to discuss."
"Yes sir,"
"Stop that. Just Roark, or Rory will do.. Aunt Athena, did you grab my--" he broke off with a smile as she held out his craft bag. "Thank you."
They all settled outside under several awnings that protected them from the hot sun. As his father began to tell Athena and the others what had been discoevered, Roark opened his craft bag, pulled out his current project, spreading it out to see what he needed to do next. His head came up at the sound of several gasps.
"That is...beautiful," Captain Deedra breathed. "May I?" she picked it up at his nod, studied the carefully places stitches, then lay it back down to study the pattern. "Where is this?"
"Caprica. It's the house we," he pointed to Rabastan, Rodolphus and himself, "and Harry bought just before we were sealed. We lived there for two sectar before the Cylon ambush distroyed everything."
"You're doing that from memory?"
"Not quite," reaching into the bag, he drew out a framed holograph, handing it over to her. He then set to work getting the thread he wanted , threaded his needle and set to work on the corner of the garden he was woking on.
"So, Admiral," came the soft voice of one of the pilots, "what are we going to do?"
"Rodolphus, Evan and Roark are returning to the First Lord's home in the morning, while the rest of us are going to look for his tomb,"
"Any idea where to start looking?" Serina asked.
"It'll be close to the Palace, if not connected to it somehow. Problem is, from what little we saw of the Palace, most of it is in ruin, so we'll have to be very careful once we do start looking."
