Chapter Eighteen

(Things to Think About)

To get away from Ron and his complaining, Harry and Hermione resided in Hermione’s room to finally have a decent conversation that doesn’t involve blasphemous words Ron enjoyed spewing.

After seven years of friendship with the red head they still haven’t learned their lesson. Ron and his mouth will one day get them all thrown into Azkaban.

“I’m so glad we don’t have class today.” Hermione sighed in relief. Her brain started to hurt from memorizing so many lines day after day.

Harry nodded, sitting on Ginny’s bed since she rarely slept in it (only he and
Hermione knew where the girl escaped to at night…Neville’s a beast in bed).

Staring down at his hands, he could see new callous form. Apparently that what happens when playing the guitar, his partner shared the similar fate.

Hermione, on her part watched her friend in mild fascination. Day by day, the boy she loved like a brother seemed to improve after the war that took place last year. Thinking of the war, they hardly spoke of it. “Do you think the way things are now would have been different if the war never happened?”

“What bought this about, Hermione?” He inquired.

“I don’t know, just the fact that everything that happened to us throughout our lives suddenly ended in a blink of an eye. That this life we’re living now seems so surreal. I often wonder if this is a dream, the peace and harmony finally restored after darkness held it for so long.” She could hear the disbelief lingering in her tone, but she couldn’t help it. Every night she would wake up in a cold sweat to realize she’s been dreaming and the reality she hoped for did not exist beyond the plains of imaginary desires.

Harry felt the same, always questioning if this is real or not. When he would read the Daily Prophet and not see any frightful articles about death and destruction, he felt out of place. At least, he’s not the only one who still has trouble accepting change easily.

“I think…we just need to move forward and let the past go. We’ve been through so much, we lost so many, and when we lost that last bit of hope, we fought to survive. I guess for some of us who fought and survived, we will never get us to the change. However, I believe we will overcome our insecurities, but we just have to be patient for the process will be long.”

Amazed by how deep and personal he went, Hermione smiled, small but genuine. “I guess I’m just being silly?”

“No Hermione, it’s perfectly normal.” Was all he said, honest in his reply.
Deciding not to linger on the sadness of the past, Hermione changed the topic, one she’s been curious about for awhile. “You never did tell me how it feels to have Blaise Zabini as your partner in music.”

“He plays like a saint and has a voice like an angel. He’s truly a man after my own heart if he caught my attention first.” He paused and looked at Hermione. “Why?”

The blush on her cheeks gave it away, but she played it cool. “I’m just wondering. I mean, Zabini is quite lazy and what not. I just want to make sure he’s pulling his own weight and not leaving you to do everything.” Came the simple answer.

Harry couldn’t stop the grin from forming. “You like him don’t you?”

The blush deepened. “Is it that obvious?”

“Yes.”

“You cannot tell anyone, Harry James Potter or I will hex you into the next century, you hear me!” The bushy haired teen threatened and meant every promising word.

Harry nodded. Who would believe him if he told anyways. Everyone already expect that Ron and Hermione are meant to be…everyone but Hermione apparently.

(AN: I decided the Second War ended their sixth year instead of their seventh. Technically, the war ended quickly...in my mind. Voldemort didn't know what hit him! Oh yeah!)
