Birth-Rite of Merlin


Lucas didn’t wait long for the Goblin to return. And when did bowed to Lucas. The other witchs and wizards inside the bank were shocked. And the creature when it had bowed before what looked like a young man.

‘This way my King’ stated the Goblin as he motioned Lucas to follow.


And follow he did. Ignoring the other people that tried to get a glance at him. Soon they were standing before a large set of doors. The Goblin that had brought them there laid a hand on the handle.

Lucas noticed the handle glow red briefly before it opened. Then he was ushered inside. Once inside Lucas noticed the office was full of different objects and an older looking Goblin that he figured was the Head of the Bank.


‘You may leave us Griphook.’ stated the older Goblin.

And as Griphook was leaving, Lucas turned and bowed slightly. ‘Thank you for you help Master Griphook’. Causing Griphook to look shocked before returning the bow before leaving the room.


‘Heir Snape, you are full of surprises aren’t you. I was told you were here claiming the birth-rite of Merlin.’ Ragnok, Head of Gingotts stated as he motioned the young man to sit.

‘You heard correctly.’ Lucas stated as he lowered his hooded cloak showing his emerald and golden eyes that shined with untold power.


Ragnok blink. He could feel the power flowing off the young wizard. But he had to be sure that he’s claim was valid. Before he would give the young one before him any kindness.

‘Very well, to claim the birth-rite of Merlin you must prove said claim. First you must show the mark of Merlin. Second I will test your blood. Third will be the test of power. Are you ready Heir Snape?’


‘Yes, I’m ready Master Goblin.’ coldly stated Lucas as he bared his shirt and released the glamour on his left shoulder blade. Showing the mark of a back and silver phoenix holding a staff in it’s talons.

Ragnok’s eyes widened slightly. I was sure the boy was lying was the only thought he had. Before he told the boy he could replace his shirt. Then handed Lucas a daggar. ’Place two drops of blood on this crystal.’


Lucas did as instructed and the crystal glowed gold when the blood touched.
Ragnok was impressed and smiled slightly before he stated for Lucas to flare his aura. Ragnok knew what the color of the aura should be for the birth-rite.


Lucas knew this was the last test. And released his aura. It was gray and golden.


Ragnok grinned. Amazing the Heir of Snape was Merlin reborn. Magic’s King had finally returned to set the world to rights, finally he thought.
‘You may retract your aura, My King.’ Ragnok stated as he bowed low before Lucas.


When Lucas’s aura was hidden again. Ragnok motioned for him to follow. They went through a door to the right of the goblins office. It was a passage way that led to a cart.

Getting in the cart, Lucas was getting confused. ’Where are we going Master Goblin?’


‘We’re going to your vaults My King.’ Ragnok replied as the cart started to descend.


During the ride Lucas listened to Ragnok as he explained where the vaults were and how many. When Lucas’s asked what all was inside. He was told that when they were back inside his office that Lucas would be given all the paperwork stating what was inside. As well as a book written by Myrrdin Emrys before he died.


Soon they had arrived at a large metal door that was encased in jewels of all kinds. ’We have arrive.’ Ragnok stated as he exited the cart followed by Lucas.


‘Place your hands upon the door, my King and flare your aura once more.’


Lucas did just that and waited as the door opened. Looking at Ragnok the goblin motioned him to enter. Inside Lucas was speechless. It was beautiful, filled with weapons, gold, jewels and more doors.

‘What do the doors go to Ragnok?’

‘More scrolls, weapons, gold and other items that you’ll have to see for yourself, my King.’

Lucas didn’t comment, he just went and opened another door. This one had what looked like eggs. He figured they were light animals in statsis. It was the only thing they could have been. At least that was the feeling he was getting from the room. He decided to leave it for now and return with his Grandfather at a later date.
Going into all the rooms he knew he was going to need that inventory before touching anything within them. With a sigh he returned to Ragnok.

‘I’m finished for now. But I need a card and a money pouch before I leave the bank. And of course the inventory list and the book.’ Lucas stated with authority before following Ragnok out of the vault.

Once they were again in the Goblins office. Ragnok grabbed the inventory book for the vault and the book. As he handed it to Lucas he asked, ’Do you want to take the inheritance test for Slytherin and Ravenclaw while you’re here? And also I need you to place this ring upon you right ring finger. It is the ring of Myrrdin.’


Lucas placed the ring upon his finger. ’No, not at this time. I figured that one of the other children would inherit those vaults.’


‘Not necessarily your Grace. The blood and magic chooses who will hold those vaults.’


‘Didn’t my Father claim those vaults?’


‘He tried, and even though he is a descendant he was unable to access them.’ Ragnok explained as he watched the emotions cross the young Kings face.


‘Alright, I’ll do the tests. If I’m not the one, then no harm done right?’


‘Indeed, your Grace.’ Ragnok exclaimed as he went to gather the materials for the blood tests.


‘Place two drops of blood into the bowls your Grace and then we can determine if you are granted access to the vaults. ‘


Lucas placed the blood into the bowls and watched in anticipation. He didn’t need them, but if he could gain access then who was he to complain. When the bowls vanished two rings were left in there places. ‘Mother of Magic does that mean what I think it means.’ whispered Lucas as he stared at the rings in awe.


‘Yes your Grace, you have been demend worthy of Slytherin and Ravenclaw’s legacy. Place the rings with the other and they will merge.’


And Lucas did just that. He couldn’t believe that he was the one and not his siblings. He wished he could get to know them. But knew that his parent’s would never allow it. ‘Do I need to do anything else?’


‘No your Grace, I just need to give you the inventory books and your new Gingotts visa as well as the money pouch you requested. Or I could give you a wallet. Now this wallet will not allow anyone to take it. As it is for your magical signature alone. As well as spell proof.’ Ragnok explained to the young King.


‘Okay, I think I’ll take the wallet instead. How will I get money out?’


‘All you must do is state what how much and if you need Muggle money just state the amount in pounds or dollars whatever is needed at the time.’


‘Great, Well I need to finish up here and return to Grandfather. I’m sure he’s climbing the walls wondering what I’m doing. ‘ laughed Lucas as he placed everything he had into the right places.


‘Your Grandfather, your Grace?’ Ragnok asked in confusion. He knew the young man’s grandparents were deceased.


‘Yeah, I call Albus Dumbledore my grandfather. He was also there when I needed him.’ Lucas stated with joy before he mummered ‘Even when my own parents abandoned me.’
‘Yes Lord Dumbledore, he is an enigma that one.’ Ragnok smirked, he wasn’t going to comment on the last statement. The Goblins knew that the Snape heir had been sent away for school at an early age. They just didn’t know why.


‘Yes he is that. Well thank you for all your help. I’ll be back soon with Grandfather in tow. I’m sure he’d enjoy getting into the Merlin vault. May your vaults flow with gold and your good health remain.’ was all Lucas said before vanishing out of the office.

‘And your’s as well my King.’ Ragnok replied to a silent room. I can’t wait to see what reign you will bring young one.

Albus Dumbledore was sitting behind his desk talking to Minerva McGonnagil when Lucas flamed into the room in his phoenix form. Causing Minerva to gasp and Albus to roll his eyes.

“You need to stop startling other’s my little friend.” Albus announced to the phoenix as Lucas just trilled in happiness.


“Your successor I presume Albus.” Minerva stated as she petted the phoenix in her lap.

“How did you know Minnie?”


“I came to see how Lucas was after dinner. And well I caught the end of his transformation and the two of you disappear into a ball of flames.” Minerva stated with a smile still petting Lucas.


“I see, Are you going to turn back Lucas?” Albus asked in amusement.


Lucas chirped what sounded like “no” before nuzzling once again into Minerva’s hand for more petting.


“Alright then, oviously his enjoying your attention Minnie. So will leave him be for now. Let’s get back to our discussion shall we?”


“Yes Albus, I need to know who is going to be teaching DADA this year? You’ve been rather silent on the matter. I know that you’ve conned Severus to return and teach potions and Lilly is taking over Muggle Studies.” Minerva stated as she continued to stroke Lucas, whom still remained in her lap.


Lucas-phoenix was not happy with that knowledge and flew off of Minerva and on to Albus’s head in anger. “Lucas stop that this instant. I needed them or Hogwarts would be hosting someone the Ministry would send again.” Albus snapped at the phoenix.


Lucas-phoenix trilled in anger before leaving in a flash of blue flames.


“That was harsh Albus. The boy seems to have issues with his parents. For the life of me I want to know why?”


“All I can tell you is that Lucas feels they abandoned him. And they don’t love him since they sent him to Atrum Vita. And I don’t blame him at all. Just wait until he hears that James Potter is teaching this year as the new DADA professor.”


“Oh my Albus, you are just asking for trouble. Aren’t you?” Minerva stated as she shook her head at the man before her.


“It can’t be helped. It seems that James is in a financial bind because of his wife. And with Lucas back as my successor, I wanted to make sure he was protected with the help of his parent’s. Because you know what’s going to happen with Jamie and Kayden Potter being in Hogwarts.” Albus stated with determination.


“Well you could at least have Sirius and Remus here as a buffer for what’s to come. Because from what you’ve told me Remus will protect Lucas with his life. Only if to repay him for his lack of furry problem.” Minerva remarked with a grim look.

“You know my dear, I believe you might be right. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to face my grandson’s fury. Wish me luck.” Albus chuckled as he moved toward Lucas’s suite.

“Luck, Albus you’re going to need a miracle to get out of this mess.” Minerva whispered before leaving the office toward her quarters.

Lucas was fuming in his suite. How could he bring those people here? He knows how I feel about them. Even though it would be nice to spend time with his siblings. That is if his parent’s bring them. He thought as he destroyed another table before fixing it.


“Can you forgive my little Merlin?” came the wary voice of his grandfather.


“Just tell me why? Why would you do this grandfather? I don’t think I can live with them so close?” Lucas snapped with a look of fury. That was until he’d seen the solemn look on Albus’s face.


“I wanted you to have more protection. The Potter children are still in Hogwarts. Even though the will be Jaime’s last year. And James is teaching DADA as well. So forgive me for wanting you protected from them.”


“Why didn’t you have me teach a class. I have my Mastery in Potions and DADA.” whined Lucas as he took on a look of innocents.

Albus seen the look on his grandson’s face. He wasn’t really angry at least anymore. He has what? Albus thought as he watched his little one.

“When did you get those?”


Lucas’s face turned to mischief as he smiled slyly. “Before you can graduate Atrum Vita, there is a major requirement. And that is you must have two masteries before you leave.”


Once again Albus Dumbledore was rendered speechless. Much to the delight of Lucas. When he’d gotten himself under control. Albus explained his reasons in more detail and to his surprise Lucas understood and forgave his blunder.

The days that led up to the return of the students was a mess. James Potter and his wife had arrived with their two son’s in tow. Instead of making them ride the Express.

The Snapes arrive before them without their two children. The staff as well as Lucas was told they didn’t feel it safe to bring them. Every one said they understood their reasons. All but Lucas, he couldn’t help but think , he was the reason. And that his parents wanted to keep his siblings away from him.


One the 31st of August, Albus led the staff and Lucas to the core of Hogwarts. While he instructed the staff on what to do. Lucas was instructed by Hogwarts, herself. So wanted personal wards. The kind that if she was under attack , the castle herself could defend the students within. Lucas agreed to add them and not tell his grandfather without Hogwarts permission.


While sitting at the Head Table beside his grandfather, Lucas recalled the first night that his parents and the Potters arrived.

It was the 25th of August and his Grandfather Albus had told him that the Potters were coming as well as his parents. Even though he didn’t like it. There was nothing he could do to change his Grandfather’s mind.


So there he was sitting next to his Grandfather when his parents walked in. The first thing he’d noticed was they didn’t have his siblings with them. That was the only thing Lucas’s wanted. He wanted to get to know them.

“Welcome back Severus, Lilly. Where is Alexis and Gabriel? I had hoped they would accompany you.” Albus stated warmly.


“We decided that they are safer at the Manor Albus.” Severus Snape stated calmly as he glanced in Lucas’s direction.


“Very well, have a seat both of you. We’re still waiting for my DADA Professor and his family.” Albus announced, he had seen the look Severus had given his grandson. But didn’t want to comment at this time.


Twenty minutes later James and Katrina Potter walked into the Hall with both Jaime and Kayden in tow. Much to the annoyance of Severus and Lilly. The rest of the staff didn’t understand why the boys were present.


“James, why are Jamie and Kayden with you and your lovely wife?” Albus stated in question.

“Because if I’m here as is my wife then there’s no one to keep our sons safe. Or get them to the station in time. “ James announced with authority.

“Agreed, we can’t have them unattended can we.” remarked Minerva coldly.


Lucas remained silent through the whole thing. He just didn’t want to bring attention to himself. Well that didn’t last long.

“Who’s he?” snapped Jaime Potter pointing toward Lucas.

“He has a name. And it’s Lucas also he is my successor.” blandly stated Albus as he noticed the shocked looks upon the Potter’s faces.


“Why him and not Jaime, Albus?” Katrina asked in confusion. She didn’t really care just curious.


“Why indeed. And the reason will remain with me and the Ministry at this time Lady Potter.”


That caused Potter Sr. and Jaime to send dirty looks toward Lucas. They then realized who the boy was. As Katrina and Kayden looked at him in confusion.


“Now I expect everyone on staff to not let past grudges come into play while working here. And yes that means you James as well as you Severus.” Albus stated will authority. The threat of if you don’t you’re gone was shown in the Headmasters eyes.

“Good, I’m glad that we have an understanding. Now Lucas will have all rights as a member of staff. He has already graduated, passing his NEWTS with all Outstandings and has two Masteries as well. So I demand he is given the respect he deserves. Whether you want to or not.” With that said they all finished their meal and adjourned to separate quarters.

Lucas’s thoughts were halted when the students entered the Hall. He searched for the one friend he’d had when they were just children. When he seen Draco he smiled. His smile dropped when Draco had given him a look of hatred.
Guess Lord Malfoy still hates me and now so does Draco. Lucas lost his appetite.


When the sorting hat was placed on the stool. “Lucas Evan Snape, I demand you to put me on?”

Lucas just shrugged in confusion. He stood from his chair beside Dumbledore and went and sat on the stool. He felt a bit stupid until the had was placed on his head.

I’ve waited seven years for this day. the hat whispered in Lucas’s head.

Why?

To speak to you, young King.(Lucas gasped) Worry not your secret is safe. For now. snickered the hat.

So if you’re not telling I’m Merlin reborn and the King of Magic. Then what did you need of me?

Hogwarts felt your upset regarding the Malfoy heir. And wanted me to let you know that he has missed you terribly as has his family.

But Uncle Luc.?

Was just fearful that something might have went wrong. And both you and his son would have been hurt. He wasn’t angry not really. As to how I know its because the Malfoy heir showed me at his sorting.


So I’m not as alone as I thought?

You will never be alone, young King someone will always stand at your side. Now I’m done you can take me off and I’ll do something to get their gazes off you.

Thanks Lucas whispered as he removed the hat and returned to his seat.


The time draws near as the King of Magic comes,
Bringing his army of soldiers both light and dark,
To stop evil from destroying all that Merlin deemed right.


Will the banner of Camolet raised high,
He will merge with the Lord of Light,
And together they will bring Magic back to rights.


Take heed all with in these walls,
You must unite as one,
Or all will be lost.

“You may begin the sorting Deputy Headmistress” finished the hat as he then went silent.


Albus Dumbledore looked down at Lucas. And when the boy looked up with a smile. Albus to narrow his eyes at him. :More secrets Lucas?: he transmitted to his little one.

:Well, maybe a few more grandfather.: Lucas replied back with a look of innocents.

Albus didn’t respond to that he just looked back out at the hall and listened to the sorting.

Lucas felt like shit, he knew there was something he was going to tell his grandfather. That must have been it. Well damn, now I’ll have to come completely clean. He thought as he narrowed his eyes on the sorting hat. Thinking of ways to get his revenge.

The other staff members were still recovering from the hat’s statement. They didn’t notice the silent conversation between the two at the Head Table. They just wondered who the King was and when he may arrive. All except Severus and Lilly they knew it was their son.


When the feast was over and Albus had given the students the rules. The students were sent off to bed as the staff went to do the duties assigned to them. All but Lucas and Albus they went to the Headmaster’s office for a discussion. One that Lucas had been trying to avoid at all costs.
