Snarffs
“I don’t want to let you go,” Neville whispered to the woman in his arms.
“Why do you have to let me go, Neville?” she purred.
“You are going back to America in a couple of days. I am afraid that I will never see you again. I have only just found you and we will be parted already.”
“I have decided that I am not going back to America. Harry told me that he is having all of our things shipped here.”
“What about your residency program?”
“I have learned all I really need to know. I only wanted to learn to be a Muggle doctor, not actually become one. I had always planned to be a Magical Healer. I thought if I learned the Muggle way then I would be more well rounded.”
“Oh you are very well rounded in all of the right spots, Hermione,” Neville said as his hands caressed her softly curving hips. “I love the way that you fit perfectly in my arms.”
“Oh Neville!” she said smiling. “You know how to say all of the right things.”
“Only around you, Hermione. Around all other witches I am tongue-tied. With you, I feel that I can say and do anything and I know that you will never ridicule me.”
“I am so glad that you and I ran into each other. I must admit, that the concept of you and I together is very strange, but I love how you make me feel. I melt in your arms, Neville,” she whispered as she pulled him in for a kiss.
“Oh god’s, Mione, I want to take you home with me. I want to lay you down in my bed and slowly strip your clothes off of your body, piece by piece. I want to lick you from head to toe, starting with your luscious lips, and ending with you sexy painted toes. I want to hear you moan my name as I caress your body everywhere.”
Hermione moaned at his sensual talk. “God’s Neville, you’re going to make me come right here!” she whispered.
“When you come next, Hermione, you will be under me spread wide as I impale myself deep inside of your creamy sheath. And I promise you, Hermione, I will make you come for me, and you will come hard!” he whispered ferociously.
“When, Neville,” she gasped. “When will you take me home with you?”
“When you are my wife,” he whispered against her soft neck as he slid his tongue down it.
“Daddy, grandfather is going to hurt you and daddy,” Lilly told Draco.
“What?” he gasped at his young daughter.
“Grandmother Narcissa said that you must be careful. Grandfather is going to hurt you and daddy so that he can have Sirius and me.”
“I don’t want to live with grandfather!” Sirius pouted.
“I promise you this, little man, you will never live with that crazed lunatic. If for some reason that daddy and I are not here to take care of you, then you will have Aunt Hermione. And if Aunt Hermione can’t be here then you will have Grandma Molly.”
“What if she can’t take care of us?”
“Then there will be Uncle Severus.”
Sirius looked at his father. “What if Uncle Severus can’t take care of us?”
Draco pulled both of his children into his arms and wished that Harry was there at that moment. He had gone to share a beer with Ron and catch up on old times. “I promise you, that no matter what, your grandfather will never get his hands on you or his sister.”
Lilly smiled. “Grandma Lilly said the same thing. She said that you and daddy would protect us better than she did daddy.”
Draco stared in shock at his daughter. “She really said that?”
“She said that the worst thing she ever did was not making sure that daddy was safe and happy. She never meant for daddy to live with her sister. He was meant to be with Uncle Sirius or Uncle Remus.”
“Have you talked to your grandfather Potter, Lilly?”
“Grandma Lilly said that he crossed over. She said that men don’t worry like women do and that most of them cross over.”
“I see,” he said, but truly he didn’t. “What does crossing over mean? Why do some people cross over and others not?”
“Grandma said it is unfinished business. If you leave something unfinished while you are alive you are afraid to cross over because you want to make sure that everything will be fine. She said that she didn’t cross over because daddy wasn’t safe. Grandmother Narcissa said that she didn’t cross over because she knew that you wouldn’t be safe. I think that mommies always worry about their children,” she said with a smile.
“You are probably right, my dear, but daddies worry about their children also. I know that I would worry about you and Sirius.”
Lilly shook her head. “You forget when you first die. You don’t remember the living unless you have a very strong urge to. Grandma Lilly said that in general men are not as deep as women and that is why most of the ghosts are women. She said that men tend to put less importance on things as women.”
“I think, my darling daughter, that your grandmothers are filling your head with nonsense!” he said tickling her.
“Grandmother said you would say that!” she said in between giggles.
“Lilly, honey, you can’t go around quoting your grandmothers all of the time. It is not safe for you to do so. If people find out that you can talk to dead people it might not be safe for you,” he told her seriously.
“I know. Sirius and I talked about it. That is why grandfather wants me. To use my powers. I promised Sirius that I wouldn’t talk about them to anyone else except you and daddy and him.”
Draco smiled at Sirius. “That is very special promise you asked your sister to make. I am very proud of you, son. It is up to you to watch out for her when your daddy and I can’t. She will have many people in her life trying to use her, and it is up to us to keep her safe.”
Sirius nodded. “I know. I won’t let anyone hurt Lilly,” he said solemnly. “I love my sister.”
“I know you do. I also know that your sister loves you, don’t you, Lilly.”
“Of course I do, daddy! And I love you and daddy also!” she giggled throwing herself into her fathers arms.
Draco thought back to when he was a child of four. It never would have occurred to him to tell his father that he loved him. He never would have imagined throwing himself at his father for hugs. He couldn’t remember a single time his father took time out of his busy life to tickle him and just hold him and read a story. When he was a child his father would send for him to come to his study. Draco would then stand quietly in front of his father’s desk waiting for acknowledgement. After what would seem like hours to Draco his father would look up at him and criticize some aspect of his life. Either his hair was to long or to short, his clothes were not right, he shoes not shined enough, he had heard that Draco had mouthed off to a tutor or his mother, anything that he father could complain about he would.
Draco would then stand there as his father lectured him about what it meant to be a Malfoy. “Draco,” he would say, “Malfoy’s are one of the oldest Wizarding families left that were still pure. It is up to you to keep it that way. You will only marry a pureblood. You must never pollute the Malfoy line.” Draco always assured his father he understood. Draco looked down at his two mixed blood children and grinned. He couldn’t think of anything that brought more joy to his life than his husband and his children. He didn’t care about that pureblood nonsense and never would. The only thing he cared about was how happy he felt each time his daughter wrapped her arms around his neck and said, “I love you, daddy,” or each time Sirius looked at him with Harry’s face and quizzical expression. Sirius was obviously not as comfortable with him as he was with Harry, but he knew that Sirius trusted him, and he knew that with time and love his son would come to love him as much as he loved Harry. Draco would make sure that all of his children knew how much he loved them and how they would always come first in his life.
The first thing he needed to do was make sure he was around to see that happen, and that meant a trip to see his father. He would wait for Harry to arrive, and then the two of them would make a trip together to speak with his father.
Harry laughed as he took another gulp of his ale. He and Ron had had a great time talking about the old days. At first Ron was hurt that Harry had left without goodbye, but he understood the reasoning behind it. Harry had told him that he and Hermione didn’t have anyone to leave behind, but that Ron had a huge family and it wouldn’t be fair to ask him to leave them behind. Hermione could easily slip back to the Muggle world to see her parents without anyone knowing, but he couldn’t quietly slip back to see the Weasley’s. There were just to many of them for that.
Ron talked about how he and Luna had gotten together. It had surprised Harry because he knew that she had always drove Ron crazy, but he could tell that his friend loved her now. “I had to go see her father about an article that he had written in the Quibbler. He had some information about a death eater that hadn’t been released to the public and nobody should have known about.” Ron told him with a frown. “When I got to his office, he wasn’t there, but Luna was. When I told her that I had an appointment with her father she smiled and said that he went snarff hunting.” Ron shook his head with a smile.
“Of course, I was really annoyed, and I told her so. I had made an appointment with him and I had expected him to be there. She told me that he had heard that a snarff had come into heat and that it was the perfect time to go hunting. Apparently, when a snarff is in heat, it will bring out all of the male snarffs around.” Ron grinned at Harry. “You know how she gets, but of course I was really disgusted at the whole thing.”
“I can imagine!” Harry said trying to keep a straight face. He remembered the first time that he had met Luna. She had been sitting in a carriage reading a magazine upside down and acting very strange. She then told him that he was as sane as she was. It had scared Harry for weeks to think about being as sane as she was.
“Finally she gets around to telling me that her father had gotten his information from her. Apparently she had been hidden in a room under an invisibility cloak when a death eater had killed Thegalus Fodey. I asked her if she was willing to testify to this in a Wizarding court and she said she would on one condition.”
Harry looked expectantly at Ron. “And?”
Ron blushed and laughed at the same time. “She said I had to spend the weekend snarff hunting with her.”
Harry roared with laughter. He could just imagine Ron’s face when she gave him that bit of news. “So did you go?” he gasped in between laughs.
“Well I had to, didn’t I?” he said with a smile.
“Ron, what the hell are snarffs?”
“Hell if I know, Harry, hell if I know!”
“So I take it you didn’t catch any?”
Ron snorted with laughter. “The only thing that was caught that weekend was my pants around my ankles by Luna’s father!”
