A Secret Revealed

Over the next few months, Hermione was starting to look a little plumper, and she was using a concealment charm so the other students didn’t know that she was pregnant. She was starting to stress over her schoolwork and the baby that was only another 4 months off.

Draco had been focusing on his studies, and less on her. He seemed like two different men. There was the man that made love to her and reassured her, and then there was the cold, distant man that he was becoming more and more. Hermione felt like he was pulling away when she needed him the most. She was afraid she was going to end up a single mother.

She started crying herself to sleep, even after they would make love. Draco would pretend to be asleep but he would hear her softly crying and he had to admit, it was starting to get to him. He had grown accustomed to her. He had been starting to get excited but then he would think about how the Dark Lord wanted to destroy her, and he would try and distance himself from the connection they were making.

She was everything he could have imagined in a future wife and mother. She was beautiful, bloody brilliant, sexy, caring, loyal, responsible, and he had lately discovered, she could really cook. The only problem was, she was a muggle born, a mudblood in his father’s eyes, and he was not supposed to love her. His family would never approve of her; well at least not his father. His mother loved him unconditionally, and would accept whoever made him happy. He couldn’t think of a time when he had ever been happier than when he was laying in Hermione’s arms, with the evidence of their strong connection between them.

Hermione returned to the Head’s common room after having a nasty bout with Ron, who still didn’t know that she was pregnant. She knew that she was over-reacting and likely that her hormones were affecting her interactions with certain people, but she couldn’t help it. She was distracted and red-faced when she came in but then dropped her books when she saw what was right in front of her. Draco was standing there with the most beautiful bassinet that she had ever seen. Hermione’s eyes instantly welled up and she ran into his arms.

“Thank you, it’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, Draco,” she cried.

Draco smiled as he held his crying girlfriend. He was pleased that he had made her so happy.

So happy in fact, he hadn’t heard anyone walk in, when all of the sudden they both heard, “What in the bloody hell is going on here?”

Those words came from a very shocked, very red-faced Ron.

Hermione turned to him and said, “I can explain.”

Ron looked at her incredulously and said, “I can take that you are seeing the ferret, I can even accept the fact that you are probably shagging the bloody ferret, but please do not tell me that you are having his baby.”

Hermione was crying when she said, “Ron, please, I am having a baby. It was unexpected, and Draco had been so wonderful. Please be happy for us.”

Ron replied, “I cannot believe that you are asking me to be happy that you are bringing anything into the world that came from him.”

Draco, who had been taking this all in finally said, “Well then don’t, Weasleby. We don’t need you, I just think that after everything that Hermione has done for you that you could try and be a friend and be happy for her, Potter has.”

Ron got even more agitated by this statement and yelled, “I don’t need you telling me how to treat Hermione. WE were there for her all these years comforting her after all of the horrible things YOU have said to her. Or have you forgotten your little nickname for her? I haven’t, and I hope to god that Hermione hasn’t. She could do so much better than you, you filthy little ferret.”

Draco pulled out his wand at the same time Ron did and both were pointing their wands at the other with fury in their eyes. Hermione stepped in between them just as Ron said Stupefy. The red light jetted out of his wand and hit Hermione directly in the side. She fell down, unconscious, and Draco dropped down to see if she was breathing.

Ron kept muttering how he was sorry, and Draco yelled at him, “Don’t just stand there apologizing, get Madame Pomphrey you fool.”

Ron ran off and Draco kept whispering to Hermione, “Please be okay, I love you. I love you so much. I can’t live without you or our child. I’m ready to be a man. Please Hermione; if you are okay I will even work with Potter. I’ll do anything to be with you.”

When Madame Pomphrey came in the room followed by Ron, Draco glared at him and said, “Get lost Weasley, YOU’VE done enough.”

Madame Pomphrey was examining Hermione and saw her shallow breathing. She levitated her to the couch. Madame Pomphrey ran a few tests on her, and called for Severus. Professor Snape came to the head’s room with a potion that would help restore her.

Madame Pomphrey told Draco, “Please watch over Miss Granger for the next few hours. She should awake at any time. The baby is still healthy, although she did take a powerful hit today. You need to make sure she doesn’t get in the way of any more conflicts like today.”
