Chapter 19

Madam Bones pulled a few more books from the shelves and sat them down on the table where she had set up their research station. Bill was looking through the books for the students that couldn’t be found, and Madam Bones was still searching through the book Bill had started with.

“There’s nothing here,” he sighed as he ran his fingers through his long red hair.

Madam Bones looked up from her book. “Why don’t you try going through students that have graduated? Their children will be listed below them, with their status.”

Bill sifted through the books, finally seeing the one he needed, in Dudley’s hands. Dudley was staring at a page, his face pale and shocked.

“What’s wrong, Dudley?”

“My name is in here,” he told the red head. “It’s listed in two places.”

Bill got up and stood behind him, “But your parents are Muggles,” he explained. He leaned over the young man’s shoulder and looked at the page.

It read:

Petunia Evans- O.W.L.S -7, N.E.W.T.s – 10

Children – Dudley Evans Dursley – Wizard

Remus John Lupin- O.W.L.S – 8, N.E.W.T.s – 10

Children – Dudley Evans Dursley – Wizard

Bill dropped down into the chair, “Okay, now things are getting strange.”

An hour later they were still searching. “I’ve found him,” Madam Bones said.

Bill and Dudley walked over behind her and looked down.

The page had a long list of prospective students. They looked to where Madam Bones was pointing.

Dudley Evans Dursley (Lupin) - wizard Mother-Petunia Evans Father-Remus John Lupin
Guardians: Lily Evans Potter, James Potter
Status-Refused admission per Albus Dumbledore (Parents and Guardians not notified per Albus Dumbledore) See refused students reason listing page 1142.

Madam Bones reached for the text called Refused Students and turned to the listed page.

Dudley Evans Dursley (Lupin)- Refused admittance to Hogwarts 11/01/81
Reason-Memory charm on family, Mother Obliviated 10/31/79, remembers nothing of the wizarding world. Father Obliviated 10/31/79, remembers nothing of child’s mother or her attending Hogwarts. Mother’s friends Obliviated 10/31/79, they remember nothing of Mother. Family Obliviated 10/31/79, remember nothing of her being in wizarding world. Wand stored in Gringotts, vault number 785.

Bill cast a charm to copy the page. “Thank you Madam Bones. I’m going to take this information and try to get Dudley admitted to Hogwarts.”

She leaned forward and put her hand on Dudley’s shoulder. “Bill will get your admitted to Hogwarts,” she told him. “If you have any problems, just give this to Minerva,” she quickly scratched out a note for the Deputy Headmistress and handed it to Bill. “If you bring Lupin to my office, I’ll break his memory charm personally.”

Bill smiled at her. “I’ll send him as soon as I take Dudley home.”

Everyone was sitting down to lunch when Bill and Dudley returned. “Did you get your wand?” Draco asked.

Dudley nodded his head and pulled the wand out of his new robes. He sat his new owl cage on the floor and released Opus. “We went to the Ministry of Magic to see why I never got my letter,” he explained. “I don’t understand most of it, but Bill sure looked mad when he found out.”

Molly piled a plate full of food and handed it to the boy. “You go ahead and eat. I’m sure that whatever it is, we can fix it.”

Bill had pulled Remus over to the side and they were whispering. Remus turned and looked at Dudley, “Severus, can you check Dudley for any spells. Bill has the feeling that there are spells on him and that he was given a potion.”

Severus inclined his head to his lover and waved his wand at Dudley, whispering the spell. A blend of colors surrounded Dudley, showing them all of the spells that had been cast. “Quite a few spells,” he answered. “I’m not quite sure why he would be covered in so many.”

Bill sat down at the table and told the group what they had found out.

“Dudley was born just two days before they passed the law about Werewolves not being able to have children,” Severus said.

“My mum always told me that I was born over a week early,” Dudley said around mouthfuls of Molly’s Shepard’s pie.

Remus got up from the table and headed towards the door. “I’m going to see Madam Bones.”

Sirius and Severus followed behind him. “If her friends were memory charmed, then she’ll have to remove mine too,” Sirius said.

“Since I have no memories of her, I will see if I have been Obliviated,” Severus chimed in.

Bill stood up, “I’m heading to Gringotts to find out about the vault.” He handed Dudley a piece of parchment and a quill to give permission for him to enter the vault.

“If my parents were his guardians, then he should have a vault too. I’m sure that my mum and dad would have wanted Dudley to have money for his education,” Harry told them. He took the parchment from Dudley and scribbled his own note at the bottom. “I gave you permission to check my parents’ accounts for his school vault.”

Molly pulled Charlie away from the table and whispered to him before following the four men out of the room. “It seems that we’re on our own for the rest of the day,” he said to the group. “Mum is going to the ministry to get Dudley enrolled, and to take care of some business.”

Fred and George jumped up from the table, “We have to head back to work,” Fred said.

“Welcome to the wizarding world, Dudley,” George shouted just before they disappeared with a pop.
