A New Land, A New World
Chapter 18
A/N - If you've read this entire story, thank you. It's my very first attempt and it seems that I may never be able to do a oneshot! I found ending the story to be the absolute hardest part.
A special thank you to Anon and Starr for their reviews. It made the entire experience so much better than I thought! So thank you both!
June 2004We’ve taken a Portkey to the Burrow. We go back about twice a year. This is a special time. Hermione and Ron have just had a baby. They are at their home and we will visit them the next day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re taking the Floo to Ron’s and Hermione’s house. They live in a muggle neighborhood which I find completely crazy. We spin into their house and Ron greets us, a huge smile splitting his face.
“Congratulations!” I say as I hug him. “I’m so happy for both of you. How is everything.”
“Incredible. Terrifying.” he says but he’s still smiling.
“Show me my niece.” Charlie says as he hugs Ron.
“They’re in the bedroom.” Ron says as he leads us down the hall. He taps lightly on the door. “Hermione?” he whispers. Charlie and I smile at each other.
“Come in Ronald.” she calls. “It’s your room too, you don’t need to knock.”
“But you have company.” He says as he opens the door.
She turns from the crib and sees us. “OH, you came!” and she hurries over to hug me.
“Of course we came.” I say with a laugh as I hug her back. “Congratulations!”
She throws her head back and laughs. “Congratulations to you! Let me see.” She grabs my left hand to look at the engagement ring. I grin like crazy as she gasps over it. Ron looks over his shoulder and lets out a low whistle.
“Good job mate.” he says to Charlie.
“Enough about that, let me see Rose.” Hermione holds my hands in hers and smiles at me. I’m so happy for you both and for me. It’s wonderful to have someone else in this family that I can talk to!”
Ron brings Rose over to me and I reach for her. She’s beautiful. She has wispy hair, curly like her mother’s and red like her father’s.
“Rose, this is your Auntie Gina.” Ron says as I take her. I look up and gasp. I hadn’t thought of that. So many changes. I’m going from just me to a wife with an incredible mother and father –in-law, 4 brothers-in-law, 6 if you count Harry and Draco and I will always count them, 4 sisters-in-law and a niece.
“Hi Rose, it’s nice to meet you.” I whisper. Charlie is standing behind me with his hand on my shoulder, looking at her.
“This is your family.” He whispers to me.
I look up at him.” I know.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After visiting for about an hour we leave. We have other things to do. We are looking at a house. We are moving to England. I’ve put in my resignation and we will move here next month.
“Are you sure you are ok living in a wizarding community?” Charlie asks.
“I’m ok with it if others around us are ok with it. I’m a little nervous, but I’m ok giving it a try.”
We stop in front of a small ranch house. Nothing special, nothing magical. At least not to the naked eye.
“I can still live like a muggle right? I can still cook and clean the only way I can?”
“Yes, but I can help too and make it a little quicker.” he says as he puts his arm around me.
“Is this it?”
“If you like it, yes.”
We walk through the house. 3 bedrooms, regular muggle stuff like running water and electricity, and a fireplace for our own floo travel.
“I like it. It’s cute.” I’m looking through the picture window that faces the front yard. There is also a back yard where I can picture a garden and if I look far enough into the future, a play area.
Charlie comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist and rests his chin on my shoulder and looks out the window with me.
“Thank you.” he says.
I turn in his arms and look at him. “For what?”
“For being willing to be a part of this world, my world.”
“Charlie. I want to be a part of your world. I want us to create our own world.”
He smiles at me then brushes a kiss across my lips. “Then this is the beginning of our world.”
“I love you Charlie.”
“I love you too.”
