Scary Revelations

I know, I know....it's been a very long time. But my muse had left me high and dry, and I had no ideas to put in here. Well, I have a new chappie, and I'll try to update sooner next time *grins sheepishly.* Sorry everybody...

I hope this doesn't affect my reviews...^_^

Abraxas kept an annoyingly close watch on the couple after that. He seemed all right with the occasional snog, but if things started to get more physical, he would promptly pull the two away from each other, much to the amusement of anyone who happened to be nearby.

“Cock-blocker…” James muttered, after a heated make-out session was pulled to an abrupt halt. Abraxas merely smiled, and sat back in his seat, picking up the book he had taken from the Grimmauld Place library. He had quite pissed Hermione off by being able to enter the library, as only those of pure blood could pass the threshold. He more than made it up to her by bringing her books from its depths.

Draca frowned at her brother, but settled for snuggling against James’ arm.

“I wonder how Tobias is doing? His father is rather difficult in this time, and I’m sure that they’ve been in some interesting arguments…” she said softly. James nodded.

“Indeed. They’re both stubborn as mules, and brilliant enough to back themselves. I just hope Tobias can keep himself safe when Summoned…” James said. He was secretly envious of Tobias, and he knew that it was his Dark nature calling out. He wanted to be in the presence of Voldemort. The Darkest and most powerful wizard on the planet at the time. Just to meet with him…talk with him…

“James?” Draca’s voice broke him out of his reverie, and he looked down at her, a small smile on his lips.

“Yes, my little lioness?” he asked gently.

“Your eyes were glowing….what were you thinking about?” she asked. He could see the nervousness in her eyes. His smile merely grew, and he leaned in close to her.

“I was thinking about your fantastic arse…” he whispered into her ear. She giggled happily, and smacked his arm. Abraxas peeked over the edge of his book and raised an eyebrow, before going back to the tome.

A soft ‘fwoosh’ from the fireplace signaled the floo, and they all looked up to see Dumbledore exit the fireplace. He spotted Draca and James, and gave a kind smile.

“Ah…just the two I wanted to see.” He said softly, and approached the sofa.

James’ keen nose smelled the slightest hint of sorrow, and his brow furrowed immediately.

“Is something wrong?” James asked. Dumbledore took a breath, and nodded to the two.

“It’s about your friend…” he said. James felt a cold spear of pure fear strike through his belly.

“Is he hurt?” Draca asked, petrified.

“He’s alive….He was Summoned….the Dark Lord became displeased when he didn’t bring good news of trying to recruit Miss Malfoy.” He said softly. Draca’s eyes widened. Tobias had been assigned to recruit her? He hadn’t said a thing….and that was probably what had gotten him punished.

Abraxas was listening intently. He had always liked Tobias. The boy was quiet, and kept to himself, but he was sharp as a tack.

“Can we see him?” James asked, standing from his spot. Dumbledore nodded.

“He requested your presence. His father is with him now, and they’re in the Hogwarts Infirmary.” The old wizard replied.

They Floo’d to Hogwarts, right into Dumbledore’s office, and then traveled straight to the Infirmary from there. Tobias was on a cot in the furthest corner, separated from the rest of the room by a privacy curtain. Dumbledore pushed aside the curtain to allow James and Draca to enter. Draca’s hands immediately shot to her mouth to stifle a gasp.

Tobias was shirtless and laying on his stomach while Madam Pomfrey dabbed medicine on wicked angry stripes that criss-crossed across his back and shoulders.

Tobias turned his head, revealing the angry purple bruise marring the left side of his face.

“That looks horrible, mate.” James said somberly. Tobias sighed softly.

“It feels just as bad….trust me.” He said.

Severus Snape sat in a chair beside the bed, watching the young man turn his face away and wince when Madam Pomfrey touched a particularly painful area. Severus knew very well how much those stripes hurt, because he had felt them before. He had the scars on his back to prove it.

The Dark Lord had been very displeased with Tobias when he had gone before him with no progress on the Malfoy girl. Tobias had given a weak excuse that Draca wasn’t Slytherin, and therefore harder to lead towards the Darkness, but Voldemort would have none of it. He promptly ordered Tobias to strip off his shirt, and a big burly Death Eater forced him to his knees and gave him twenty lashes for disobedience. Then, he had given him a bruised face to match. Tobias had then been forced into the unfamiliar protocol of thanking Voldemort for punishing him, so that he could ‘become a better servant.’

Tobias had taken it rather well, and it had surprised the older Snape. New recruits almost always put up a fight, or objected, and made it worse on themselves. And then they would set up a ruckus as soon as the first stripe was laid. But Tobias, much like his father, had done neither. He had silently taken off his shirt, and said nothing when the burly Death Eater pushed him to his knees. His breathing had changed when the first horrible crack of the whip had sounded. He had changed his breathing in order to keep from screaming from the searing pain.

The whip was cursed. It’s tongue was spelled to cut into the skin without the aid of a tip, and it’s lash couldn’t be healed with magic. The stripes would heal normally, and leave scars behind. Between the Mark on his arm, and the scars on his back, Tobias would remember this sojourn to the past for the rest of his life.

“You have to take somebody, Tobias!” James snapped. “He may likely kill you next time, and I won’t have that. I’ll hunt his lily-white arse down and tear his throat out! And if I do that, the future is gone. Draca is never going to appear before him. Even if she were willing, her brother and I would never allow it to happen! I will appear before him the next time he Calls, Tobias.” James raved.

Tobias looked up at his friend, dejected. He knew it was true. If he kept bringing no news of Draca, he’d keep stockpiling stripes. Each time it got worse. This was the third time he’d been punished, and he didn’t know how he’d survived this one.

When he had given no progress, he’d been stripped to his boxers and hoisted into the air, his hands tied to above him to a tree branch. He’d been beaten like a side of meat, and then whipped until blood ran down his legs in rivulets, dropping onto the ground below like a crimson rain.

A week later, James and Abraxas had appeared at Spinner’s End, annoying Severus to no end, and demanding to see Tobias. Severus had finally led them to the room where Tobias was staying.

“James…you know what will happen if you go…” Tobias said weakly. “You won’t be able to stand around so much Darkness without losing yourself. Please, James… If we lose you then we’re all doomed. We won’t be able to return home…” he added, reaching up to scratch at the bandage wrapped around his head.

“We’ll both go.” Abraxas said, surprising James. “He wouldn’t be satisfied with Draca anyway. She’s too much of a marshmallow. I, however, am more suitable for the job. I am a Malfoy, after all…” he said.

“Your parents will kill me…” Tobias whispered.

“I can take care of my dad.” James snapped, puffing up like an angry dragon….which he was.

“It’s either me or Draca. And I refuse to let him anywhere near my sister. She won’t even kill spiders, Tobias…” Abraxas said, remembering with amusement the time he’d had to levitate a spider out her room because she refused to let anyone kill it.

Tobias swallowed. This was fast turning into a situation he couldn’t control. They were only a few days away from returning to Hogwarts with their parents, they hadn’t come up with a plan to get back to the future, and Tobias would be killed if he didn’t bring someone good before the Dark Lord. Damn James and his freaky time-travelling powers…

“I guess we have no choice.” Tobias said. “But even Abraxas’ Occlumency skills are no use for the Dark Lord’s Legilimency. You’ll have to wipe him. The Dark Lord has explored every freakin’ corner of my brain that I haven’t been able to block.” Tobias said, looking up at Abraxas.

After a bit of arguing on Abraxas’ side, James finally convinced him to allow him to drain his memories as he ad for Tobias. The procedure was similar, and with the same results. Abraxas shook as if in a seizure, and foamed at the mouth a bit, and then passed out for a good ten minutes before he woke up dazed. James added the new orb, a tiny purple one, next to Tobais’ blue one of the black suede cord around his neck.

“And now we wait.”

Yes....we wait. Wait for the reviews to start piling up! Come on, people. One reason my muse left was because I didn't have enough reviews to keep the plot bunnies hopping. I rely on the reviews to fuel my muse. C'mon, guys...tell me what you think. I love feedback, good or bad. As long as bad feedback has a positive intent....I hate flames...they burn...
