Chapter 18 : Two new members

Chapter 18 : Two new members

It was time for the meeting. She pulled back her hair with a black ribbon and strode out of the red room. Heading for Draco’s room she felt her heart beat quicken as she thought of what the other members would think of him joining. After knocking lightly on his door she heard his footsteps approach. His face replaced the wooden door. She smiled at him.
“Are you ready?” she asked him.
“Yeah. Where is the meeting point?” he asked. His voice wavered slightly. Taking his hand, she led him out of the common room.
“You’ll see.” She responded. They walked down the hall to the changing staircases. Arriving at small black door she tapped it with her wand seven times. The door slid open revealing the other students in the Order.
“Are you all ready?” Ron asked eyeing Malfoy.
“Yeah we are.” She said. She squeezed Malfoy’s hand for reassurance. He squeezed back.
“Okay.” Ron continued as he pulled out a crumpled paper back. “Everyone take hold of the portkey. We’re due to leave in 30 seconds.” He said looking at his watch. Everyone placed a hand on the small brown bag.
“I hate portkey’s.” Neville said. Hermione gave him a small smile. She knew that Neville never landed on his feet. The last time they went to a meeting he landed flat on his back. As she thought this she felt a familiar tug at her naval and her surroundings began to swirl. With a loud thud and a moan she looked around. Neville hadn’t landed on his feet again. Inspecting the small kitchen of Grimwald place a wave of grief flooded her emotions as she thought of Sirius. Hiding her anguish she turned to face Draco. He was looking around the room with great curiosity.
“Where are we?”
“Sirius Black’s old house.” She said as Mrs. Weasely came bustling into the kitchen.
“Oh I’m glad that you are all here. Everyone is in the living room. Well all except Cameron. I swear if he ever shows up on time I’ll chop off all of my hair.” She said with a frown. “Oh! Hello Draco.” She said with a smile as she approached him with an out stretched hand. Malfoy looked at the stout woman. Without hesitation his put his hand in hers. Hmmm… maybe he has changed Hermione thought.
“Hi Mrs. Weasely.” He said shaking her hand.
“Well, let’s get on with it then, shall we?” She asked as she ushered the group to the other room.
As they entered the large living room she noticed that the large portrait of Mrs. Black had finally been taken down. She suspected that after Sirius was killed that she would have been even crankier than she already was. Looking around, she took a seat at the large table next to Tonks. Today Tonks had long brown hair with a random series of blonde streaks. Although Tonks could change her form at will, Hermione thought that her natural self was the most attractive. She would kill for Tonks’ long legs and slate colored eyes. She knew that she had legs to rival hers, but she still wanted a pair like Tonks’ all the same.
Draco sat in the seat directly next to her. She could feel his nervousness. Everyone around the room was eyeing him suspiciously. Moody was the first to speak.
“So, Malfoy,” Draco stiffened. “Explain to us why you have decided to join our cause?” he said in his gruff voice. His knurled face scrunching up slightly making him look even more intimidating.
“The Dark Lord killed my father. I am here to avenge his death.” Draco responded in a calm voice. Hermione admired his cool air. She knew that she probably would cry if she was being interrogated by a room full of Aurors.
“Yes, yes, I heard about your father.” Moody replied nodding his head. “Tell me, do you now why he was killed?”
“No. I do not.” He said back.
“I will tell you then son.”
“Alastor…” Mrs. Weasely said with a sharp look to match her tone.
“He needs to know Molly. He’s almost out of Hogwarts. He needs to know the powers of Voldemort.” Everyone cringed at the sound of the name. Moody locked both eyes on Draco. “Your father was on a mission. He was sent to destroy a muggle family. A member of that family is sitting right next to you.” Hermione clamped a hand over her mouth and stood eyes wide with terror. She saw Harry give a questioning look at Moody. Tonks pulled her back down to her seat rubbing her back. “Apparently Miss Granger’s parent’s were at a dentistry conference in Berlin. Your father went to Berlin to snuff them after they left the building, however, they never came out. The Grangers had been called out of the meeting for an urgent meeting the conference director. They had left the building before your father had even arrived. Not knowing where they had gone to Lucius was forced to go back to his master with news of his failure. In Voldemort’s rage he killed him right there on the spot. It seems that your father had been unsuccessful many times before.” Moody looked at Hermione. “Don’t worry Miss Granger. Dumbledore has put a spell on your parents. No Death Eater can get with in seeing range of them. But just as a precaution an Auror has been assigned to protect them at all times.” Hermione relaxed. She knew that Dumbledore would never let anything happen to her parents. Draco’s face had turned to stone once again. She hated that look. “You are a Malfoy. Voldemort will expect you to join his forces. He will not hesitate to kill you.” Draco was about to speak when the front door burst open and a muscular man rushed in.
“Sorry everyone.” Said the new comer looking abashed as the entire room turned to face him. “Got caught up in the ministry.” He took a seat directly across from Tonks eyeing her long hair and navy robes.
“Good of you to join us Cameron.” Said Mrs. Weasely in an irritated voice. “We were just informing Draco Malfoy here of why his father was murdered. He is the newest member to the Order.” Cameron looked at Malfoy.
“Newest member? I thought Dumbledore said that there were two.” He said giving Draco a small nod.
“Yes, but Dumbledore has not told us who this mystery member is. He is supposed to be here shortly to introduce this enigma.” Said Tonks who was still looking at Cameron with great interest. Hermione smiled. She knew that there was something going on between the two and apparently no one knew about.
Hermione sat watching the secret pair for a bit, her eyes darting back and forward trying to catch their every clandestine glance. She had met Marcus Cameron last summer. He was a handsome man who she secretly thought was very attractive. His broad shoulders and tall frame barely fit into his oversized robes and his short wavy black hair was stylishly tossed about. No wonder Tonks was interested in him. He was a hunk. She had once spied the pair going at it in the attic when she was looking for Kreature the house elf. It took her months to rid herself of the images of their sensual rhythms. He looked very good with out his robes. The wide expanse of his bare back and Tonks’ delicate arms wrapped around his neck made her abdomen tingle. She kicked herself for thinking it. She was madly and deeply in love with Draco Malfoy; not this twenty something brawny wizard with a gorgeous smile and dazzling eyes. But damn, with an ass like that…stop it. She thought as she mentally checked herself. She turned to look at Draco. He was still tense and sullen. She put her hand on his knee beneath the table and discretely began to rub it.
The large entrance door banged open once again breaking her scandalous thoughts. She had no idea what everyone was talking about. She had completely zoned out with her thoughts of Cameron. Dumbledore strode into the large house with a shadowy figure in his wake. It was a woman.
“Sorry for the delay. I had some business to take care of before bringing our second new Order member.” The dark figure shifted slightly behind him her face still could not be seen. “So what have we been talking about?” He asked still standing near the shadows of the staircase.
“We informed Malfoy here of why his father had been murdered. Cameron has also told us of a break in at the department of the paranormal. Said there were a couple files missing concerning precognition and divination.” Said Lupin. Dumbledore nodded.
“Dumbledore,” said Tonks in her usual bright voice, “aren’t you going to introduce us to the new member?” Finally, the suspense was killing her.
“Oh yes, sorry.” He said. Hermione saw the elegant figure straighten. Dumbledore opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the boy next to her.
“Mum?” She heard as Narcissa Malfoy stepped into the light.
