cocktails

The lights were blinding, strobes of every color bouncing off everyone.
Green, pink, blue, red. A colorful feast in a dark room.
It was like a massive party, people throwing their bodies everywhere
Dancing to the dull beats that were forced out of the speakers,
filling the air, creating a trance like mood.

The center of the dance floor was always reserved for the best.
The best dancers, the most attractive. Usually a combination of the two.

And for the past few weeks, it had always been occupied by the same girl.
She was one of those girls which no one knew much about.
Appearing out of nowhere, and immediately claiming the top.

She danced, well you couldn't describe how she danced,
thin and lithe, it left you mesmerized.
Men would line up in circles, unaware that they were
and stare, stare for what could seem like hours
But they never approached her, maybe they thought she would dismiss them,
they were probably right.

Women tried to copy her, the way she moved.
They couldn't.

It wasn't that she was a typical beauty.
There was something about her,
like a sort of secret she carried around that seemed to magnify her.
Make her brilliant hair shine brighter,
her pale skin glow,
her lustrous eyes entice many.

Those who did dance with her,
well they couldn't believe their luck.
But as soon as they bent down to get
a quick peck on the lips, she would dance away.

But they knew she wasn't a innocent girl.
She was a tease.

The girl would always dance into the late hours of the night.
She would walk home, always followed by someone trying to have the
courage to ask her out. But for some reason or another,
she always disappeared.

Disappeared to a tiny apartment hidden away, tucked into a quiet section
of town. Above a butcher's house, above a florists.
So every morning, she would buy a single flower to adorn her tiny
room, keep it bright.

The people who lived around didn't know her.
Which was odd considering they'd known everyone for years.
But here was the girl, only having arrived around three weeks ago.
A wild girl which no one knew a thing about.

They supposed she worked, for she would disappear for many hours a day
disappear and return, buying the remaining flower as the florist closed.
She didn't have much appetite for meat.

And then later on at night, she would go off again,
looking much different than she had earlier.
Leather outfits they were tight to her body,
outfits that the people in the town didn't approve of.
She must have been going to London,
the town was just on the outskirts. But why would she have moved there?

No one knew her.
No one spoke to her.
And no one knew she would awaken screaming every night.

Draco pushed his platinum locks out of his eyes, he hadn't been sleeping much lately.
And it had it's effect on him. Large raccoon circles under his eyes.

Yet he persisted with work, working for Gringotts no less.
And everyday he put on his best dress, showered till he was cleaner than clean.
Drank coffee standing up, and left.
Left from seven in the morning, coming home around ten at night.
Sometimes later.

The house, might as well be, useless.
There was no life, there was nothing inside the house,
there was no one in the house.

Draco had figured something, the only way to forget.
And that was to hide behind piles and piles of money.
Doing goblins dirty work, and not thinking twice about anything in his life.
He ate little, and although he was still strong, he was losing the life in him.

Every time his coworkers asked him out to lunch, he declined.
But slowly, maybe ever so slowly. He was warming to them.
There were very few wizards, the majority were goblins.
But the few wizards there were, pushed him to go out.
Maybe regenerating some sort of life in him.

After three weeks of going to the clubs every day,
of living in this recluse town.
The girl was gone.

The girl was in London.
She'd grown up in London, well not forever.
But she'd lived there from about eleven on.
Ever since her parents had died, ever since she'd been left with
a blind grandmother who was locked in a room all day.

The grandmother was dead by now. Her whole family was dead.
But she didn't care.

The girl got herself a flat, a big flat that she filled with nothing.
There was the bathroom, the kitchen. Filled with the bare minimums.
A bed. And that was all.
Nothing else. No material attachments.

The girl left the flat early in the day, around 9 in the morning
And she'd always be back by 11 at night.
She was a working girl, you could see it on her face,
the way she walked, the way she talked.

Buying the paper in the morning and some cold beverage she said woke her up.

His coworkers invited him to a party
a party that was being held in London,
in a large flat overlooking a major metropolis.
No one really knew who was hosting it, but random people had been invited.
And by the time the party rolled around, there would be hundreds crammed into it.

He relented at first, he didn't go out.
But they talked him into it.
It was supposed to be "major" and have lots of "singles"

read: married women who were bored
read: young girls who didn't know about life

Draco didn't go for the singles, or because it was major.
He just went because there was nothing better to do.

People were flowing out of the apartment, looked like they were going
to burst through the windows. Burst through the windows
and land on the cold pavement below.

It was October, and the flat had black lights adorning every surface.
The flat was huge, but it was empty. Perfect for the party.
Did people even know what it was? Who this was?
Draco wondered to himself.

Give it an hour, give it an hour and he'd be gone before you even noticed.

In the corner he watched a pair of twins dancing with one guy,
looking like it was the time of their lives.

A girl with dark black hair and large shades bickering with her boyfriend.

People plotting evilly.

The drunk guys dancing around like idiots, having a dance off.
One too many alcoholic beverages.

Tens of hundreds of people dancing together.
Laughing to each other about some silly thing.
Dancing like crazy lunatics, dancing to the music.

He hated muggle parties.

The kitchen had been filled to the top with any liquor you could think of.
And people were milling out like rats, filling a cup and going.

Draco made his way through the people, trying to find his coworkers.
The idiots who had dragged him here.
He pushed through thickets of college students,
finally hearing his name being called.

He turned to see the coworkers, maniacal gleams in their eyes.
"Drake, I'm telling you, being a wizard has it's advantages!"
It was so loud, you couldn't have heard him anyway.

"What are you talking about?"

"He's in love" piped another coworker.
"Some girl who I'm telling him everyone is in love with. But he won't listen"

"You have to listen to me Draco, she's like sublime. She's like"

"He's been going on like that for the past half hour. I'm serious, that chick
has like men lined around her."

"I could just whip up a love potion, she'd be mine. She'd grow to love me.
See, wizards advantage."

"She's not going to let you. That girl looks about a million times smarter
than anyone else here. Like she's seen it all."

"I'm sure she isn't all that." Draco finally piped in.

"She is! Don't say that about her, she's like heaven to my eyes."

"Yeah, and all she's doing is standing and talking and you're already in love with her,
pathetic."

Draco laughed his trademark laugh.

"Ok Ok, show her to me."

"I swear Draco, i know the girl's go for you a lot. But don't take her away from me.
She's going to be mine."

"Trust me, I'm not going to take her. She's probably not even my taste."

"Just follow us" they murmured in unison.

Leading him through person after person, room after room,
this place was like a fucking maze.

"There she is"

"Who? That girl standing by the door? The one with the red top?"

"Yeah, that one, the one with the shiny auburn-y hair. Killer body I bet"

"Well gentlemen, let me have a look." his cockiness coming out.

He walked around, discreetly as to not make it look obvious.
Not like the other men who were standing there, making themselves look like
idiots.

He pushed himself forwards, just a little more.
Grabbing a cocktail out of someone's hand, turning around to look the girl in the eyes.
Dropping the glass

"Hermione"
