Chapter 17

The morning of the battle, Anakin stood on his balcony meditating. His dreams had been plagued by nightmares of Hermione dying and him being unable to stop it. He opened his eyes when he felt Obi-Wan approach him.

“I sense unease in you Anakin.” Obi-Wan said.

“I kept having nightmares last night. I can’t shake them.” Anakin replied.

“Nightmares of Hermione?” Obi-Wan asked.

Anakin knew then that Obi-Wan knew about him and Hermione. Slowly he turned and faced his mentor and friend and nodded. Obi-Wan just sighed.

“You can’t change what’s meant to be. A few days ago I received a message from Master Yoda. Senator Amadala came to him, she had a premonition it seems. She saw you and Hermione fighting. She told Master Yoda that she saw Hermione get hurt and you snapped. I was reluctant to tell you, but you need to know.” Obi-Wan explained.

“I can’t loose her. I know the rules about this, but she’s different. She makes me feel different. As if anything is possible. I will do all I can to protect her.” Anakin said.

“Anakin, listen to me. You must be prepared for the fact that either you or Hermione or both may die in this fight. You must not betray your feelings. The other Jedi may not be as understanding as myself and Master Windu. Do you understand?” Obi-Wan asked.

Anakin nodded. He knew Obi-Wan was right. If the others found out, it could cause even more problems. Problems he and Hermione didn’t need right now. Anakin took a deep breath and he and Obi-Wan exited the chambers to meet with the others.

Hermione stood with Harry, Ron, Draco, and Severus when the Jedi walked into the Great Hall. All the students not fighting had been moved into the catacombs of the castle for protection. She could tell the guys were just as worried about this battle as she was.

“Did you get any sleep Mione?” Ron asked.

“Off and on all night. I couldn’t get my mind to calm down. No matter what I did.” Hermione answered with a sigh.

“Don’t worry Hermione, we will be with you as will Anakin and Severus.” Draco said soothingly.

Hermione nodded. The four friends gathered in a tight group hug. Drawing on each others love, friendship and support for one another. Severus walked up and led them over to where the Order and Jedi were standing next to Albus.

“It is time. Time to win back our freedom. I wish to extend my thanks to our allies and the Jedi Order who are fighting at our side. Now, let us make our way to the battle field and fight for our freedom.” Albus said.

The large group made their way out of the Great Hall and headed for the grounds facing the main gate. All they had to do now was wait for Voldemort and Palpatine to arrive.

Palpatine and Voldemort led the army toward the castle. What greeted them, shocked them. Standing on the grounds were not only the Order and it’s allies, but the entire Jedi Order it seemed. This worried Palpatine greatly.

“Stay close to me Darth Lucius.” Palpatine instructed.

Lucius nodded and continued walking towards their enemy.

“This is our moment! Destroy them all! Leave none alive!” Voldemort yelled.

The gates were blown off their hinges and the two sides rushed at each other and the fighting began. Hermione and Anakin fought side-by-side while Harry, Ron, and Draco cut their way through the Death Eaters to get to Voldemort. Severus fought with Mace and Obi-Wan.

“Well, I see you have a new apprentice. Darth Sideious.” Anakin smirked as he and Hermione stood in front of Palpatine and Lucius.

“You are not strong enough to beat me this time Skywalker. Neither is your little girlfriend Hermione Granger.” Palpatine laughed.

“Give up now Malfoy, and I might spare you.” Hermione growled.

“Jedi only kill if they have to.” Lucius replied.

“I’m no Jedi Malfoy, so those rules don’t apply to me.” She shot back with an evil smile.

The four began fighting. After a few minutes Lucius had knocked Hermione to the ground. Before he could deliver the killing blow with his light saber, Obi-Wan came to her aide.

“You all right Hermione?” Obi-Wan asked.

“Yes. Thanks.” Hermione gasped as she jumped to her feet.

Obi-Wan fought Lucius while Hermione rushed to help Anakin against Palpatine.

“It’s time to die Voldemort.” Harry hissed as he, Draco and Ron stood in front of the Dark Lord.

“HA! HA! HA! You three don’t stand a chance against me. Lord Sideious has taught me many things. I will not be the one dying today Potter.” Voldemort laughed.

“Well, we’ve learned a few things ourselves you no good bastard.” Draco smirked.

Harry and Voldemort both drew their wands, and like during Harry’s fourth year they locked again. As the dome formed around them, Ron and Draco got ready. Ron pointed his wand at Voldemort while Draco just closed his eyes as he if he were meditating.

“You’re dead Potter!” Voldemort yelled.

“Think again! NOW!”

Ron yelled the killing curse while Draco pointed both his hands, palms foreword at Voldemort. Draco was channeling the Force and sent it flying toward Voldemort while Ron’s curse did the same.

“NOOOO! This can’t be!” Voldemort screamed as light began pouring from the cracks that were surfacing all over his body.

“Yes, it can and will be! AVADA KEDAVRA!” Harry whipped out a backup wand, ironically, his mother’s wand and delivered the final blow.

“AAAHHH!”

“HERMIONE!”

Anakin rushed to Hermione’s side. She was unconscious but breathing. By now the other Jedi members had seen the way he held her in his arms and his reaction to her being hurt. Anakin gently laid her on the ground and faced Lucius who had fired the curse at her.

Before Lucius could even blink, Anakin began attacking him. The two fought while Palpatine managed to slip away from everyone. Obi-Wan and Mace rushed to Hermione and checked on her. At the same time Severus came running over.

“Is she all right?” Severus asked worriedly.

“Yes, but I’m not sure about Anakin.” Mace answered.

They turned and saw that Anakin had knocked Lucius to the ground and had his light saber pointed at Lucius’ throat, and hatred burning in his eyes.

“I should kill you, but that is not our way. You will pay for your crimes.” Anakin said, anger laced in his voice.

Two Jedi Knights walked over and bound Lucius. He would be taken back to Coruacant and judged there. Anakin replaced his light saber at his side and hurried back to Hermione.

“Let’s get her in to Poppy.” Severus said.

Anakin gathered her into his arms and followed Severus. Anakin didn’t notice the looks the other Jedi Knights were giving him. If he had, he would have known that his and Hermione’s secret was no longer a secret.
