Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Chapter Eighteen
Disclaimer – JK Rowling created the stuff you know.
Sorry if the chapters seem a bit short, I find it easier to write this way.
Chapter Eighteen.
The potions master sat alone in his rooms. His anger hadn’t subsided in any way over the night and he hadn’t been able to sleep, again. How dare she encourage his attention when she already had somebody else whose company she obviously preferred? Well, if he meant nothing to her then she would be nothing to him, he decided, it wasn’t as if they had an understanding after all. He had managed quite well before she arrived here and he could continue to do so. Yes, the sex was good, but he could get relief from any prostitute in Knockturn Alley without any messy emotions or pretence, so he really didn’t need her at all. He was interrupted from his inner dialogue by a knock at the door. He couldn’t believe it; she still had the nerve to show up here, she’s probably laughing to herself right now.
“Come” a loud voice intoned from the other side of the door and Cat walked through. He was sat behind his large leather desk with parchments scattered in front of him.
“Looks too much like work for a lazy Sunday?” she said dryly.
“Can I help you Miss McEwan? As you have already noted I am busy.” he said curtly without looking up at her.
“I thought we were spending today together?” uncertain what was happening she stumbled over her words slightly.
Severus looked up at her with cold eyes “well as you can see I have things to do so I have no time or need for your particular brand of company. Though…” he added thoughtfully “by the end of tomorrow I’ll probably be in need of release so perhaps you could stop by then?”
“What?” Cat whispered in shock. “I thought…”
He gave a short laugh “You flaunted yourself in front of me, of course I was going to respond I’m a man, but did you really think there would be more than that?” amusement flickered across his pale features.
That bastard! How dare he speak to her like that? The realisation that she had been used cut like a knife. Who the hell did he think he was to say such things? A million different responses ran through her head.
“Fuck you!” she said quietly, with a face as hard as stone, turning and walking out the room.
“Yes, I believe we’ve already covered that one” the malicious voice followed her as she slammed the door shut.
“I will not cry because of that arrogant shit” she told herself as she strode purposefully towards her own quarters. Repeating the mantra in her head until she collapsed on her bed.
“Who are you kidding?” she sobbed loudly and buried her face in the duvet.
“Serves her right” Severus told himself, looking at the door, justifying his behaviour. He was the injured party in this, she had deliberately deceived him and he was entitled to some payback. It didn’t feel as sweet as he thought it would though. His words had been overly hurtful, but he was hurting damn it, why shouldn’t the lying witch hurt too? There was no doubt in his mind that she would be.
Cat sat red eyed on the sofa with her duvet wrapped around her legs. She had reacted the way in which any self respecting woman or witch would under the circumstances, cast a silencing charm, bawled her eyes out and then put on some loud angry music. No one summed up this state of mind better than Trent Reznor she had discovered in the past as she all but shouted the lyrics back at the stereo when the opening lines of Head like a Hole started.
