Chapter 15

February faded into March, March into April and April to May. Harry, Sirius, Hermione and Severus continued their training. Members of the Order came and went. Life at Hogwarts continued as normal, with one change. Much of the house rivalries were almost completely gone.

“Any idea when we go back?” Harry asked at dinner one night.

“According to Albus, in time to take your N.E.W.T’s. That would be in about two weeks.” Severus answered.

“You’re coming with us right Sirius?” Hermione questioned.

“I will escort you guys back, stay for dinner, maybe stay the night. Then I have to get back here.” Sirius replied.

Harry and Sirius were both looking foreword to being reunited with their loved ones. Severus and Hermione felt for them. Hermione sat in the backyard watching the stars twinkle above her.

‘I fear this battle. Severus has had another premonition, but won’t talk to me. I don’t know what to do.’ she thought as a gentle breeze caused her hair to flutter around her face.

“Mistress Hermione, are yous okay?” Oron asked as he slowly approached her.

“No I’m not Oron.” she answered sadly.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“It’s Severus. I know he had another premonition last night, but he won’t talk to me. What do I do Oron?” she said as tears filled her eyes.

“Don’ts cry. Just talks to Master Severus. You’s his wife. Hes wills talks to yous.” Oron replied as he patted Hermione’s shoulder.

“Thank you Oron. I think I will. Do you know where he is?” she asked.

“He’s in the library.” Oron answered.

Hermione kissed Oron’s forehead and headed back into the house. She heard Sirius and Harry playing Wizard’s Chess. She passed them and headed for the library. There she found her husband sitting in a chair staring at the empty fireplace. Slowly she walked over to him.

“Severus.” she said.

“Huh? Oh hello Hermione.” he said.

“We need to talk.” she said.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” he replied as he got to his feet.

“That’s bull shit. I know you had a premonition last night. Why won’t you tell me?” she asked.

“Because it has nothing to do with you!” he yelled as he got to his feet, pun around and faced her.

“Nothing to do with me! Whatever it was it has you upset! That in turn affects me!” she yelled back.

“Just butt out Hermione!” he yelled.

“Not until you talk to me!” she cried.

“Who the hell do you think you are? Ordering me to do something!” Severus screamed.

“I’m your wife god damnit!” Hermione yelled.

By now Severus stood about two feet from Hermione, while Oron, Harry and Sirius were standing at the door way.

“Just because you’re my wife doesn’t mean I have to tell you shit!” Severus cried.

“So you think you’re above being able to talk to me?” Hermione asked.

“You don’t know what the fuck you’re saying! Why don’t you just shut your god damned mouth you Gryffindor know-it-all!” Severus roared.

“Severus…” she started to say.

“You think you’re so high and mighty! That you have all the answers! Well fuck you Hermione! You’re nothing more than a book worm little child!” Severus screamed as he got right in Hermione’s face.

“Severus!” Sirius yelled.

Before anyone could blink, Hermione swung. Her left fist connecting with his face with such force, that he was knocked to the floor.

“That’s what you think of me! Here!” Hermione screamed.

A second later, Severus felt her wedding set hit his forehead, nicking him just above his left eyebrow. All he could do was watch his wife flee the room. A minute later he heard their bedroom door slam close.

“What the fuck is your problem?” Harry demanded.

Severus just sat there staring at Hermione’s wedding set on the floor.

“Severus!” Harry and Sirius yelled.

“Wh…what…have I…just done?” Severus stuttered.

“Why did you say those things to Hermione?” Harry asked.

“I…I didn’t mean too. I was…angry. I…never meant…to hurt her.” Severus answered as he picked up the platinum diamond, ruby and emerald wedding set up off the floor.

“What happened?” Sirius asked.

“You…you two know I get premonitions. I had one last night. She…she knew, but…I don’t want to tell her.” Severus answered.

“Why not?” Harry asked.

“It’s…it’s too horrible. I…I…can’t.” Severus said brokenly.

“Look, right now your wife is upstairs. You and she need to work this out.” Severus said.

Severus nodded. Slowly he got to his feet and made his way to his wife. As he neared the room, he heard her anguished sobs. Tentatively he knocked on the door.

“Hermione.” he said.

“Go away! Just go the fuck away!” she yelled.

“Hermione please. Open the door.” Severus pleaded.

“No! Leave me alone!” Hermione screamed.

“Please. I’m so…sorry. I was angry. Please honey, let me in so we can talk.” he said sadly.

The door opened. Severus was hit in the face by his pillow, a blanket and a change of clothes. Hermione then slammed, locked and warded the door once again. Severus dropped to his knees, placed his forehead against the door and began to cry.

A few minutes later, he grabbed the things she had thrown at him and headed for one of the other bedrooms. That night, no one slept peacefully or restfully. At breakfast, Hermione was missing.

“Mistress Hermione says she won’ts comes down. She justs cries and cries. Is knows yous dids not means all yous saids last night.” Oron said as he fixed Hermione’s breakfast.

“I still shouldn’t have acted like that Oron. I was scared and angry. I acted just like my father. I took my emotions out on Hermione.” Severus said.

“You’s are nots likes your father. He was an evil man. You’s ares nots evil. Yous and Mistress Hermione needs to talks.” Oron said.

“Severus, why not tell us what you saw?” Harry asked.

Severus took a shuttered breath, then began talking.

“Me, Hermione, Albus, Sirius, Remus and Ron were all behind Harry. He was facing off with Voldemort. Voldemort and Harry both yelled the killing curse. A blinding light surrounded them. When we could see again, both of their wands were connected by a golden light.

“One by one we pointed our wands at Voldemort and yelled the killing curse. Voldemort screamed, then there was an earth shattering explosion. We were thrown back. When I woke up I was in the hospital wing.

“I asked about Hermione. Albus said…she…was dead. The…the explosion literally… blew her body in half. The…the…worst part…was that she was pregnant.” Severus explained as tears rolled, unnoticed, down his cheeks.

Harry, Oron and Sirius moved to his side. The three gathered the shaken wizard into a hug. Severus clung to them, drawing on their friendship and strength.

“It was just a vision.” Harry said.

“No Harry. I’ve never had a premonition that hasn’t come true or I haven‘t been able to prevent.” Severus cried.

“Then you need to tell Hermione.” Sirius said.

Severus nodded. He wiped his cheeks and headed upstairs. He had just entered the hall where their bedroom was when he bumped into Hermione. They just stared at each other for a second before Hermione turned to leave.

“Wait! Hermione please!” Severus cried as he reached up and grabbed her arm.

“What?” she asked harshly.

“Can we talk? Please?” he asked.

Hermione nodded. They walked into their bedroom. Hermione sat on the bed while Severus remained standing. He immediately began telling her of his premonition. When he finished, he just stood there and watched her.

“So. As you said last night, it doesn’t concern me.” she said.

“Please Hermione. I was just scared last night. I was scared that by telling you it would seal your fate.” he replied.

“Why did you tell me now then?” she asked.

“I was an idiot last night. Can you forgive me?” he answered.

“I guess.” she said.

Severus sat beside her and gathered her into a tight hug. Hermione returned the hug. They stayed in each other’s embrace for a more minutes before they came apart.

“I believe you dropped this last night.” Severus said as he pulled her wedding set from his pocket.

“I’m sorry I threw it at you. Would you?” Hermione asked as she held out her left hand.

Smiling, Severus gently slid her wedding set onto her ring finger. Hermione then leaned foreword and kissed him. The two quickly lost themselves in each other. Nobody saw them again till the next morning. It was three days later when Remus stopped by for dinner.

“Remus! This is a surprise!” Harry cried as Remus entered the kitchen.

“Hello Harry. Albus asked me to stop by and deliver this.” Remus said with a smile as he handed Severus a letter.

Severus took the letter, broke the seal and read it. As he read, Oron added another setting and helped Hermione serve the Shepard’s pie. A few minutes later Severus spoke.

“Albus wants us to return tonight. He feels it’s safe enough for us to return. Tonight he will be telling the school we’re returning. Remus will be escorting us back along with Sirius.” Severus said.

“That’s great! I can’t wait to get back!” Harry exclaimed.

“Miss Boulstrod misses you too Harry. She asked me to give you this.” Remus said with a smile.

Harry took the parchment and quickly opened it. Dinner was lively. Remus told them that the students were hardly using the house tables. The meals found the students scattered throughout the hall. The children of Death Eaters had been removed for the school by their parents some weeks back.

“That’s great to hear. I’m sure Professor Dumbledore is glad the houses are uniting.” Hermione said.

“What about the D.A.? Who’s been leading it?” Harry asked.

“Ron and Mr. Zambini. You left behind your Galleon. They’ve been meeting at least once a week. More if they can. The D.A. has even been using meeting time to study for their O.W.L’s, N.E.W.T’s and exams.” Remus answered.

“Um, Master Severus, whats will happens to mes?” Oron asked.

“You will return to Hogwarts with us. When we return, I will tell the students and faculty the truth about Hermione and I. No more hiding from the bastard Voldemort.” Severus answered.

Hermione smiled and kissed him. The others smiled as they watched the happy couple. After dinner Harry, Hermione, Severus and Sirius headed upstairs to pack. Remus helped Oron clean up the kitchen as they waited. Two hours later found the groups of six making their way up the path to the castle. Once in the castle they headed for Albus’s office.

“Welcome back.” Albus greeted as they entered the office.

“Millicent!” Harry yelled.

“Katrina!” Sirius cried.

The two wizards ran to the significant others. Albus, Hermione, Oron Remus and Severus smiled as the two couples were once more reunited. After being briefed on the changes that had happened over the past few months, everyone retired to bed. Albus gave Harry and Millicent permission to use one of the guest chambers for the night. Remus returned to his chambers, Severus, Hermione and Oron headed for the dungeons and Katrina drug Sirius away to hers.

That night everyone in the castle slept more peacefully than ever. Everyone within the walls knew the final battle was looming just over the horizon. Everyone prayed Harry would triumph and rid their world of Voldemort. Once and for all.
