I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Coming Home
A/N: I meant to add this at the end of Chapter 17, but decided to make it a chapter in itself. I didn’t mean to confuse anyone. lol This story is faaaaaaar from finished. This chapter is very short, but the next ones are going to be pretty long. I just didn’t want to get into anything heavy right in the middle of this. i’m not exactly happy with the way it came out. It seems very....I don’t know, wordy lol Just bear with me and I promise the next ones will be better.
Chapter 18
Coming Home
Hermione was standing at the soda machine in the hallway fumbling through her pocket to find a sickle. She felt a presence behind her and a hand reached out and dropped one into the coin slot.
She spun around and was face-face with Harry.
“Hey.” he said, looking at the bright white, scrubbed tile.
“Hi.” she said, looking away from him as well.
“I just wanted to say, for what its worth.....I’m sorry.” He raised his eyes to meet hers. “How I’ve been acting lately, the things I’ve done....its all been wrong.”
Hermione bit at her bottom lip in thought.
“I know its going to be awhile before we get over this, but I really want things back to normal.” he added.
Hermione’s eyes filled with tears once again.
“Things are never going to be normal again.” she replied. “But the forgiveness thing....we can work on. Just...give it time, okay?”
He gave her a half smile before wrapping her up in a hug.
Harry released her and she stumbled, reaching out for the wall for support.
He quickly took hold of her again.
“Are you ok?” he asked.
“Yea, I just think being here is starting to get to me. I hate hospitals.” she frowned.
“Maybe its time we head back to school.” he suggested. “You look a bit pale. I think its about time for Ginny‘s portkey to activate anyway.”
Hermione nodded.
“I think you’re right.” she said, rubbing the small of her back. “Are you coming?”
“No,” he replied. “I think I’m gonna stay here with Ron tonight.”
“Alright, I’ll take care of Ginny. Make sure she\'s okay. Maybe have a little sleepover or something.” Hermione replied.
“That would be good. This is hitting her hard.” Harry said.
“I think its hitting us all hard.” she frowned.
“Well, just get some rest okay?” he smiled again and patted her on the shoulder.
She smiled back and left to find Ginny.
She was seated at a table with her head resting in her hands.
“Ginny?” Hermione asked softly.
Ginny jumped and looked at Hermione.
“It’s time to go.” she whispered, walking over and putting her hand on her shoulder.”
Ginny hung her head, then looked up and nodded.
They both made their way back to the portkey they had left in Ron’s room.
When they entered, his mother was once again seated by Ron’s bed, holding his hand. He was sleeping, snoring softly.
“I don’t know what would have made him do this.” she cried softly, before turning and looking at Hermione and Ginny. “Do you?”
Ginny covered her mouth with the back of her hand, repressing fresh tears.
She turned and looked at Hermione.
“I really don’t know either.” Hermione said softly, hanging her head.
Mrs. Weasley looked back at Ron.
“Are you girls leaving?” she asked.
“Yea, we need to get back to school. Do you know when they’re going to release him?” Hermione asked.
Mrs. Weasley shook her head.
“We’ll be back as soon as we can, okay?” Hermione walked over and hugged Mrs. Weasley.
She smiled weakly back at her.
Hermione walked over and took the picked up the portkey while Ginny hugged her mother good bye and gave Ron a kiss on the forehead, careful not to wake him.
Ginny placed her hand on the portkey and waited with Hermione.
She felt the familiar jerk forward and landed back in Dumbledore’s office.
He looked up at the girls.
“How is everything?” he asked, concerned. Hermione could see lines of worry on his face as well.
“I think its going to be alright.” Hermione stated. “We’re going to go back to our dorms and try and get some rest.”
Dumbledore nodded and watched as the girls exited the office.
***********************************
Once they were a good distance down the hall, Hermione turned to Ginny.
“Hey, why don’t you come stay in my room tonight?” she asked.
“No,” Ginny began. “Draco didn’t look very happy last time I saw him. It’ll probably just make things worse having me there.”
“I promise it will be okay.” Hermione said, taking Ginny’s hand. “Please? I think it would make me feel better too.”
Ginny smiled softly.
“Okay, just let me go pick a few things up from my room okay?” Ginny turned and disappeared in the opposite direction.
“Draco.” Hermione thought. “How is he going to react. Not just to Ginny, but to....everything.”
She really didn’t think she could handle a fight right now and she knew Ginny was in no shape to witness one.
“Hopefully, he’ll take it well.” she thought as she arrived at the portrait of their common room.
