Chapter Eighteen
AN: I\'m excited to see that I may have opened a few eyes to the delights of this pairing! It\'s one of my personal faves (D/H being the other one).
Chapter 18
That night Snape was forced into his thoughts by having nothing to do. His experiment was in a long two-day simmer and required nothing else at this time; he had no papers to grade, and his favourite pastime of slithering through the halls to catch students after curfew was denied him due to those half-wits skulking about to catch him. So, Snape found himself sitting by his fire nursing a glass of black currant juice refusing to think about that evil, misbegotten idiot Trelawney and instead forced to think of tomorrow and tomorrow’s tomorrows.
He was getting married tomorrow. In less than twelve hours he would have and be a husband. He would be a husband and an expectant father. That thought almost had him out of his chair pacing. All day yesterday and today he had been able to avoid thinking about it. He had calmly gone about his day, doing what he assumed every knocked up bridegroom did on the day before his wedding; trying desperately not to think too hard. Now, he faced it. He was going to be a father. A father. What did he know about being a father? He supposed he could do opposite everything that his own father had done. Yes, that would work. And of course, Lucius was an experienced parent. Draco was perhaps a bit too spoiled and coddled, but was smart and had turned out well. So then he could rely on Lucius then if he was in a quandary about a parenting issue. Sneering, he thought about being a better parent than Narcissa. Naturally he would, and did, succeed her in everything, that awful, superior bitch. He would make sure that his child missed more than a daily owl of biscuits and chocolate when he shucked off his mortal coil. He would raise his child to be strong and smart and a survivor. He would make sure that he or she was treated well and cherished.
Merlin, did he just say ‘cherish’? Drumming his fingers on the chair arm he thought it over. Well, if he were to implement the plan to do everything opposite of his own father than, yes, he would cherish his child. Protect it and make sure that it knew that it was wanted. Which, after the initial shock and outrage, he would admit to it being wanted. Not only by him, but also by Lucius, the manipulative bastard. And he did have to admit that he had always been fascinated by what his body was capable of. Now, finally, the scientist in him would see it put through its paces. So, yes again, he did indeed want the child.
Severus placed a hand on his abdomen remembering Lucius kissing him there and saying how pleased he was. He wouldn’t admit it aloud, but here in his mind he was willing to accept that he had been ‘glowing’ earlier due to that memory and the thought that he had pleased Lucius. Severus knew that tendency in him was dangerous. It had been dangerous when he wanted to please Lucius by allowing himself to be seduced before he had learned to make a monthly contraceptive potion. It had been dangerous when he wanted to please Lucius by accompanying him to ‘secret meetings with a very important man’. It had been dangerous when he wanted to please Lucius by joining him in getting his Dark Mark. Lucius was dangerous, he was dark, but that was what made Severus shiver. Lucius had been right when he said that Severus was a creature of the shadows and would run to the dark. But he had failed to mention that Lucius had always been in the shadows Severus rushed to. Snape grimaced when he realized that his female students would say that he liked ‘bad boys’. It was asinine but he acknowledged the observation would be true. There was no one alive as seductively bad as Lucius and Severus wouldn’t have it any other way.
