Chapter XVIII: Two Sides of the Coin
Chapter XVIII: Two Sides of the Coin
09/24/1996
Draco watched his Father’s dead body fall to the ground, dragging Hera along with him. She was suddenly brought back to consciousness, her eyes snapping wide open not too far from the spot where the curse had hit Lucius.
Voldemort’s wand was still aimed at Harry and Draco wanted to kick himself for falling off the broom. He knew that if he tried to take his wand at all, a dozen of Death Eaters would vanish him from the faze of the Earth.
‘Get the girl’, the Dark Lord told Parkinson.
Both him and Harry looked at Hera, who was kicking and screaming, trying to fight the tight grip the man held on her. Draco couldn’t stand to see her like that and tried to get up, but couldn’t. He was stricken by a sharp pain in his right leg, which had flexed in an extremely strange angle beneath the rest of his body. He couldn’t help but whimper, even though he managed to suppress a loud scream.
‘Well, Potter… this time you better surrender. Not only we have you completely cornered, you have no help or what so ever. Not only we have you completely cornered, you have no help or what so ever. Your little girlfriend trapped, young Malfoy hurt… unless you want me to kill them both this very instant, turn in your wand and follow me calmly to your new home.’
An evil smirk stretched across his face, making it look as though it would split it in half. His snaky eyes sparkled, sending him shivers down his back. He panicked when he saw Harry hesitatingly hold out his wand to him.
‘No, Harry! Don’t be so fucking stupid! He’ll kill us all anyway!’
Voldemort snatched Harry’s wand and laughed deviously.
‘I just love that lack of common sense in you, Potter. Very useful. Now, come with me’, he said, still pointing his wand at him. ‘Goyle, bring the traitor along.’
A pair of large hands grabbed him firmly by the armpits and painfully lift him and dragged him behind a defeated Harry Potter. Why was he doing this? Why wasn’t he fighting?
The Dark Lord took them to the dungeons. He saw Hera, who was already locked in a cell. Parkinson opened the cell she was in and Goyle dropped him in.
‘Get in’, Voldemort said as he clasped Harry’s shoulder and pushed him towards the door, which was closed behind them.
Harry sat next to Draco and ask him if he was alright in a whisper. Draco just nodded, but his pained expression contradicted him.
Voldemort paced on the other side of the bars looking pleased. ‘I always knew you would betray your father… he always spoke so highly of you, said I should ask you to join the Death Eaters, but I knew better. I recognize a coward when I see one. So similar to your father… worst even!’
Draco sniffed angrily. So what if he was a bloody coward, at least he wasn’t a murderer.
‘Now, what was a real surprise was the appearance of this new Malfoy girl… a squib… what a disgrace.’
Draco and Harry remained quiet, but they watched Hera walk towards him calmly.
‘I heard you were a human lie detector, but apparently your gifts fall short sometimes.’ Hera outstretched her right hand through the bars. ‘Hera Malfoy, at your service, Master.’
‘WHAT?!’, both Draco and Harry yelled. Draco’s jaw dropped as a wicked smile grew in Voldemort’s face.
‘Bloody little traitor… you really are a Malfoy after all.’ He took a few steps in her direction but didn’t take her had. ‘So, you’re a witch after all.’
‘Better’, Hera’s smile matched the dark wizard’s. ‘I’m a seer, and a damn good one.’
‘Impressive. But there’s something I don’t quite get… if you’re a seer, shouldn’t you have known the three of you would end up here?’
‘I’ve known for years and I’ve been waiting patiently for this day to come, when I would be set free and I would finally take my revenge. Show this world there’s a new Malfoy out there ready to smash them like bloody insects. Get me out of here and I will follow you devotedly.’
‘How do I know if I can trust you or if you’re just trying to save these two?’, Voldemort asked suspiciously.
‘You’ll just have to trust your instinct and keep in mind that someone who wants to save them wouldn’t tell you that you forgot to take my brother’s wand.’
Draco’s eyes opened widely. Amazingly enough, he had been so shocked by her sister’s words, he had totally forgot he even had a wand. Now more than ever, he felt a hard pang of betrayal in his stomach. The Dark Lord summoned it and nodded in approval. He unlocked the cell and let her slip out quickly. The both of them looked at the prisoners’ eyes evilly.
‘How could you…’, Draco mouthed, unable to utter a single word. He could feel his eyes watering and his throat contracting.
‘Sorry, Draky. You offered me too much love, it was disgusting. Have fun with your new boyfriend’, she grinned and took Voldemort’s hand as though she were his daughter. ‘Oh, and I believe this is yours’, she added taking her ring off and throwing it to his feet. ‘Let’s go somewhere more privet, Master. I have many things to tell you.’
Voldemort nodded and left Parkinson and Goyle in charge to keep an eye on the prisoners.
Harry hadn’t moved from where he was, frozen by the actions of that innocent girl. A salty tear travelled down Draco’s cheek. His eyes went from her sister’s figure to the ring on the floor and felt as though he had been kissed by a Dementor. A cold hand held his and he threw himself backwards, not minding the pain in his leg, which wasn’t nearly as strong as the one in his heart.
