I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Why?...
Why didn\'t I just tell him? Why didn\'t I just tell him in his office? I wouldn\'t have to live with this guilt any longer.
After her short talk with her father which turned out about this fine young gentleman they had met over at the dentistry workshops, she had sullenly told her father she was involved and gone to bed.
Now it was hours later, the house was still and she was lying in the bed in which she had been seduced by him.
That mere thought sent sparks down her stomach, and she felt a spasm endure.
She recalled that classes began tomorrow and she suppressed a groan. Seeing Severus was one thing, going to classes was quite another. She didn\'t want to sit in his class, gazing at him while she tried to concentrate.
When you tell him I doubt a romantic relationship will be an option, Hermione.
Hermione\'s heart hammered as her worrisome thoughts intruded and she wondered for one horrified moment if he\'d have her drop his class. How humiliating.
Don\'t be a moron. The man\'s a professional. And I\'m sure he\'ll understand if you explain everything to him.
Hermione nodded, \"Of course.\" she said hollowly to herself, “He’ll understand.”
That is, if Pansy doesn\'t get to him first.
Hermione\'s stomach clenched and she felt the sudden urge to vomit her chicken dinner right into her wastebasket.
No. Regain composure. Everything will be fine.
She leaned over and set her alarm for 8:00 the next morning. Nope...scratch that, it was now 1:49 in the morning now. 8:00 was now a mere few hours away.
That\'s it. she thought determinedly. Tomorrow morning. 8:30 a.m. sharp before our classes begin. I am going to march into Snape\'s office and tell him everything.
She snuggled under her covers, a small relieved look about her face as she conceded with this plan. Finally. Everything was going to be alright.

\"Hermione, honey? Are you going to sleep all day?\" she felt the gentle nudge of her mother\'s hand on her shoulder. Hermione grumbled, feeling angry and irritable.
\"What are you talking about Mum? It\'s not even 8:00 in the morning.\"
A small chuckle sounded from Mrs. Granger and she stood, looking at her daughter\'s puzzled expression. \"Honey, it\'s almost eleven. Don\'t you have classes today?\"
Hermione\'s eyes widened as she frantically looked to her clock. 10: 46 a.m. Oh no...this has to be a nightmare. This is wrong. I can\'t have blown my chances!
Mrs. Granger headed out of her daughter\'s room, tsking about the state of it and closing the door behind her.
Hermione leaped out of bed, screaming at herself in anger and worry and waving her wand over her head, in a matter of seconds she was clean and fresh.
You\'re not to use magic outside of school Hermione.
\"Oh shut up!\' she yelled at herself pulling on her black cloak. Out in the kitchen Mr. and Mrs. Granger exchanged confused glances before shrugging and going back to their coffee and papers.
\"Okay.\" she muttered to herself, \"Everything\'s fine. Everything\'s fine. Everything\'s fine.\"
She stepped out into the living room, saying a quick goodbye to her family before stepping into the fireplace. She contemplated saying, \"Severus Snape\'s office.\" but that would only leave her Mother
with ammunition for the next time she arrived. Plus, there was no guaranteeing his presence, he might he teaching classes for all she knew. Instead she opted for something more practical.
\"Gryffindor common room!\"

\"As soon as I find that Hermione Granger,\" McGonagall said angrily, pacing around the common room muttering to herself. \"She is in a heap of trouble. Leaving the schoolgrounds unannounced, being tardy for all morning classes without an excuse.\"
Minerva had been pacing around the common room all morning, waiting for Hermione’s arrival. She was offended that the girl hadn’t told her of her departure, and that she was late without notifying her. Not only did this look badly upon McGonagall, but she didn’t even know if Hermione was alright.
If anything McGonagall was worried, and as a stern head of house she covered this with anger. All the students were in their classes and she tried to hold back worried tears. Suppose something had happened to poor Hermione.
Unexpectedly there was a small pop and a loud hacking cough as Hermione came out of the fireplace, soot all over her face that she magically zapped . Sh. She looked frantic and was about to rush out the door when she caught side of a livid Gryffindor head of house.
“Oh…good morning Professor McGongall.” She said courteously, nodding to the older woman.
\"Miss Granger.\" McGonagall said sternly, the tears vanishing from her eyes. \"You are tardy and have a lot of explaining to do. \"
Hermione felt her heart drop, “Do you think this could wait another time, you see-“
“No.” McGonagall said, pointing to a seat. “Now would be most appropriate.”
Don’t you understand! Hermione wanted to scream, I may already be too late! I have to see Snape!
She sat heavily, looking to the older woman with a deep frown. “Well?”
McGonagall looked surprised at her brashness. Hermione was usually reserved and polite, now she looked dodgy and angry. Not that she had any right to be. But looking at the young girl she saw something new…a shine that hadn’t been there before. She suspected she had most definitely been involved with someone over the break. She looked wearily to the young girl, noting that perhaps she was being too strict.
“You’ve been at your parents home in London for the final duration of your winter break?”
“Yes.”
“And you didn’t find it prudent to inform me of your departure?”
“No.”
McGonagall sighed, rubbing her temple. “And why would that be?”
Hermione drummed her fingers along the side of the chair, “Because I’m a grown woman. And I didn’t even know I had to inform anyone of my departure.”
u knu know I had to hear of your leaving from Professor Snape.”
Minerva noticed as Hermione suddenly gripped the sides of the chair, her eyes widening a bit. \"Oh. What did he say…exactly?”
McGonagall ld ped perplexed to Hermione. Her flushed cheeks, her worried expression he inner shine. Oh God.
She didn’t know what to say as Hermione sat across from her, looking to her in worry. “Are you alright Professor? You seem a bit pale.”
McGonagall steadied herself, images whirring past her. Severus explaining Hermione’s departure while seeming a bit nervous, his prior obligation that seemed so important. Him being the last one to see Hermione. It all fit.
“Hermione…I hope you know what you’re getting yourself into.”
Hermione looked confused to the older woman in front of her, looking flustered and nervous all at the same time. Was this the McGonagall that she had been so scared of when she fist arrived at Hogwarts? “Sorry?”
Minerva looked to her in painstaking effort to keep from yelling at Hermione to stay away from Snape. That he was bad news. That she was so young and had her whole life ahead of her.
“You’ve met a man haven’t you?” she said slowly as Hermione blushed and nodded, shrugging a bit.
“Err…yes Professor, but I-“
“If this man is causing you to…be tardy Miss Granger,” McGonagall said slower. “Then I suggest you keep your distance. You’ve got a bright future ahead of you.”
Hermione seemed a bit offended. “He is quite bright himself Professor. And I care very deeply for him. If tardiness is the result of…love, then so be it.”
McGonagall blanched and covered her mouth with her hands. Hermione looked anxious, continually looking to the door.
“May I leave please Professor? I’ve classes to attend.” She stopped her rudeness as she saw her Professor was torn. “I am truly sorry for my tardiness, but I don’t wish to miss any further classes.”
Good one.
McGonagall contemplated that a moment, she knew exactly where the young woman was going.
“Yes you may leave Hermione.”
Hermione stood, making her way to the door, stopping as she heard McGonagall call her. Straining to have patience she whirled around and uttered a breathless, “Yes?”
“Severus’ break is at eleven thirty. You’ll find him in his classroom.”

“Where’s Hermione?” Ron asked Harry curiously, “I haven’t seen her all break.”
The two of them stood waiting for divination classes to start. Pavil and Lavender stood giggling and pointing to Ron as he blushed a shade of scarlet while Harry laughed.
“Lavender’s got such a crush on you.” Harry mocked as Ron looked to him humiliated.
“She does not.”
“Does so. I overheard Lavender telling Pavarti how she always heard that red-heads were more passionate, especially when it came to snogging and shagging. “
Ron shook his head, his cheeks burning. “Shut up Potter.”
Harry laughed, saying how he reminded him of Snape. “Be careful.” He added mysteriously, waggling his fingers in front of him. “You may end up a greasy git just like him!”
“Shut up.” Ron said primly, pushing the boy from him. “Hey…did you even see Hermione this morning?”
“I don’t believe so.” Harry said contemplatively as a dark lock of hair fell into his flashing green eyes. “Perhaps she met a boy over the break and they’re off eloping.”
They started laughing to themselves at the image of Hermione the bookworm rushing off to do anything not planned. Harry cojustjust imagine Hermione writing in her daily planner; ‘1.) Do homework. 2.) Get married. 3.) Finish Hogwarts; a history.’
“Oh no.” Ron groaned as he saw Pansy approaching. “Slytherin on the prowl. Be on guard, be on guard.”
Suddenly Pansy strolled up to them, ignoring their repulsed looks. “Hello boys, heard from Hermione lately?”
The two exchanged looks of surprise. What was she getting at? “Why Why do you ask?”
“No reason.” Came the smooth reply. Perhaps Pansy knew if Hermione had gotten cozy with some of the boys from school while they were away. Harry couldn’t pass an opportunity like this up, especially since Hermione would never admit to anything of the sort.
“Actually,” Harry said as he looked to Ron and smirked, “We were just commenting on how we thought she may have met a boy. You wouldn’t happen to know if she cozied up to anyone over the holidays would you? ”
Ron smirked as did Harry obviously thinking along the same lines. They listened attentively as Pansy replied at her leisure.
“Oh Hermione didn’t meet a boy.” Pansy said airily as Ron and Harry looked disappointed.
“She met a man.”
Harry and Ron felt their eyes go wide. Hermione with a man? No way. Obviously the Slytherin wench was lying. As usual. They went on ignoring Pansy a moment. Finally curiosity got the better of Ron as he turned and looked to Pansy with interest.
“Who is it?”

Hermione wandered about the halls, looking to her watch. He had his break right before lunch, no wonder he was always the first one there, glaring and sneering at the passing students. Well, he had been.
She was feeling ill then, wondering how McGonagall had found out about she and Severus. She hadn’t said anything to lead her to believe anything.
It’s because you’re a horrible liar.
It had been true. As soon as McGonagall had informed Hermione of Snape’s whereabouts, Hermione had shrugged and gone, “Why should I care where Snape is?” all the while giving a shaky smile that Minerva rolled her eyes at.
Now Hermione stood, outside his classroom door, feeling her legs trembling and shaking. It was like first year Potions class all over again. She listened inside and could hear nothing. She opened the door, seeing no point in knocking and peered inside.
Severus didn’t notice her as he was coming out of his office door with ingredients in his hand and walking over to a bubbling potion. He dropped a fine bit of white rock like ingredients into the milky substance, sighing as he did.
It was cold. Colder than Hermione ever remembered it being.
She walked in, feeling that he was calm. She hoped. He was mumbling to himself inaudibly, dropping certain ingredients and watching as the potion changed color. She walked over to him, her feet sliding over the floor and not making a sound. She had just reached him when she felt her panic overwhelming her. She was confessing everything. He was going to be furious.
“Severus.” She said breathlessly, her lips quivering as she stared at his back. All her prior planned speeches hadn’t prepared her for standing this close to him, trying to speak but finding it impossible.
Suddenly to her surprise he turned and started making his way to his office. Maybe he didn’t hear me.
She followed him confused, perhaps he was grabbing something from his office. He obviously hadn’t heard her. He couldn’t have. She followed at a quick rate, wanting to call out his name again but refraining from doing so.
He must have heard me.
They both reached the office door as Snape opened it and finally whirled around to look at her. Hermione’s breath locked in her throat looked to his face as he glared at her sending waves of anguish down her. His black eyes were glossy, narrowed and boring into hers.
He looked as if he was going to speak, his lips twitching then stopping as he glared at her once more before he walked into his office and slammed the door of it in her face.
He knew.
