in need of a savior...
\"Albus you can\'t.\" McGonagall said roughly, pulling at the cloak he held determinedly in his hands. \"You can\'t, it\'s much too dangerous.\"
He squinted at her over half-moon spectacles, she was being difficult. She was afraid. \"I must Minerva.\" he pulled the cloak from her now limp fingers. \"They need me.\"
McGonagall gaped at him, looking angry but then passive as she collapsed into the chair nearest to her, looking up to Albus with glassy eyes. He felt a pang of guilt as she spoke next, looking so very frightened.
\"We need you!\" Minerva said, her large eyes filling with tears then. \"We need you here to protect us! What will we do if he attacks us Albus? And you\'re not here! What wi-\"
She broke off then, tears falling down her wrinkled cheeks, her wise eyes squinted shut as sobs racked her body.
Albus sighed gently, making his way over to McGonagall, weeping on the chair beside his desk, her head buried in her hands.
He looked down on her, she was normally so calm and thoughtful over the years. She was the one to tell him to keep calm and remain in control...what had happened? He caressed her shaking shoulders in sympathy, then hugging her shaking body. What had happened to them?
Voldemort had happened.
Voldemort was their eternal pain, their eternal worry and the only one that they could never detect. They could never tell when he was to attack...they never...
Bottom line was that Voldemort was powerful, as were his minions. At this mere compliant thought Albus felt his blood boil. Kidnapping Harry and Hermione was worrisome enough...but Snape?
For a strange moment Dumbledore heard Hermione\'s warning in his head, that this was all a clever plan of Snape\'s to get rid of Harry forever. He wouldn\'t...would he?
Soon reasverpverpowered Albus\' thoughts and and he looked out the window at the bleak landscape of Hogwarts.
He had the children of Hogwarts to take care of. This was his job. He felt his heart swell at this thought, accompanied then with a pang of anxiety. Breaking into Voldemort\'s fortress, wherever that may be was not going to be easy.
And for the first time in a very long time, Albus Dumbledore was scared. ___________________________________
\"NO!\" Hermione screamed as she saw the figure, her eyes filling with angry tears. She could hear Voldemort\'s ragged breathing and his struggle to stand.
\"GRAB HER!\" He yelped at the DeathEater standing rigidly in front of Hermione.
The Deatheater looked to her silently, she couldn\'t even make out the color of his eyes. He grabbed her roughly then, slamming the door behind her and clamping a hand over her mouth dragged her away from the chaos that was beginning upstairs.
Screams of anguish and then anger tore behind them, and Hermione\'s once dragged body was now running alongside the DeathEater that pulled her arm roughly, running rapidly beside her now.
\"Hurry.\" Commanded the voice briskly, one that Hermione could have sworn she recognized.
She felt her shoes clap against the cold stone floor, screams from behind every door sounded as she and her unlikely accomplice made their way down the twisting and turning hallways.
Suddenly voices up ahead...a particular languid tone cut the air that she recognized immediately. Severus! To her chagrin the DeathEater pushed her into a small hovel in the wall, and held her behind him, facing the oncoming traffic of Voldemort\'s \'followers’, both he and she encased in the shadows.
Snape and another figure walked past, talking darkly about something of high importance. Hermione could only hear the gentle mumble of Snape\'s voice, making her heart pound even more. Could she trust him?
“If we don’t find the Mudblood Severus,” said the one chilling voice, “It shall be your head.”
She heard Snape reply darkly, “I don’t know where she is you fool. She’s very clever and very determined. She’s no doubt escaped by now. ” His voice held hope, and Hermione wished she could see him. All reason before hand had told her he wasn’t to be trusted, but something in her refused to believe it.
“Well then Severus,” said that cutting voice sharply as they continued walking, as their voices began to diminish, “I suppose you’ll be paying a visit to the Master then.”
“If that’s what it takes.”
‘NO!’ Hermione’s voice screamed. He was going to be killed! All because of her…how stupid to have disbelieved him. She felt the tears begin to fall and the Deatheater out of nowhere grasped her arm and dragged her further down the winding staircases as she struggled. She had to save Snape.
She was about to scream for him when The DeathEater placed a gloved hand over her mouth, she bit the fingers clamped over her mouth and tried to yell for help.
The gloved hand flinched, but in desperation did not remove itself from the angry confines of Hermione\'s mouth.
\"Shut up!\" the dark figure growled, and Hermione\'s eyes searched his masked face as he jaw slacked...there was something familiar about that voice. Further they traveled until they reached a large oaken door, which the DeathEater opened with a quiet incantation and a flick of his familiar wand.
The Deatheater pulled Hermione into an empty room and shutting the door, placed protective wards on it. Hermione wasn’t afraid of him, and this confused her to no end. She saw he wasn’t making any move to come closer to her, appeared just to be on edge…waiting to be caught. Why had he saved her?
“Who are you?”
He didn\'t move much at first, but after scanning the small dark room they now inhabited, and surveying the nonexistent sounds from behind him he deemed them to be moderately safe for the moment.
He turned to her then, closing the distance between them in a hurried stride to her and in one fluid movement he ripped off his mask...
