Chapter 18

Harry leaned to the side so that he would have a better view of Professor Snape. He saw Voldemort aiming his wand and casting the spell that sent his most hated teacher to the ground, in extreme pain. Harry aimed his wand at the Dark Lord and shouted, “Expelliarmus!” Voldemort’s wand flew a few feet away from him. Severus Snape watched as the wand flew away from its owner, he pulled his own wand and aimed it at Voldemort. Harry again aimed his wand at Voldemort and shouted, “Avada Kedavra!”

Brilliant green light shot out of Harry’s wand and struck Voldemort in his chest. Almost instantly his body dropped to the ground. Severus watched as a dark cloud quickly seeped out of the Dark Lord’s body. Not wasting any time he raised his wand and shouted, “Istius animam glacia!”. The black cloud froze where it was. Severus stood up and walked over to the body of Voldemort. Nannette landed as close as she could get to the professor and watched as Harry slid down her side to join the man.

“Professor, is he dead?” Harry asked.

Severus looked over at the savior of the wizarding world, “Yes, Mr. Potter, he is indeed.”

Nannette landed in front of Hagrid’s cabin, and waited while Harry and Professor Snape slid down her side. When the two men were standing in front of her, she dropped the two bodies that she had been carrying. Severus levitated the body and frozen soul of Voldemort while Harry levitated the body of Peter Pettigrew. Harry spoke the spell that would shrink her down, and waited until she had landed on his shoulder before he walked off toward the castle.

When the dragon had landed with Voldemort and Pettigrew’s bodies, an alarm had sounded in the castle, alerting the headmaster and teachers that someone with the dark mark, other than Severus, had come through the wards. Albus, Molly, Arthur, Charlie, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny charged down from Dumbledore’s office and headed out the front doors of the castle.

Ginny screamed when she saw Harry, and the rest of the Weasleys and Hermione ran toward him.

Harry smiled at his family and looked over at the potions master, “Just think, this is just the first of many people that will be swarming the two of us,” he said.

“What do you mean the two of us, Mr. Potter?” he asked. He watched the play of emotion across the young man’s face.

“Well, Professor Snape, I might have cast the spell that killed his body, but you are the one that kept his soul from escaping and giving him the opportunity to come back once again,” Harry answered. “I’m pretty sure that you will get the order of Merlin first class for what you have done. I’m going to make sure of it. You risked your life during both of Voldemort’s reigns of terror by spying for the side of the light, and I for one refuse to allow the Minister of Magic to deny you what you so rightly deserve.”

Ginny crashed into Harry and hugged him, “I was so worried about you,” she told him. She then turned to Professor Snape, but he interrupted her before she could even speak to him.

“Miss Weasley, I had nothing to do with Mr. Potter’s escape,” he paused and looked around at the group. “As it is, I owe Mr. Potter a great deal of gratitude. He was the one to cast the killing curse that ended Voldemort’s life.”

Harry stepped forward, “But like I told you Professor, you are the one who kept his soul from escaping,” Harry smiled at the older man. “I will make sure that you are honored for your years of sacrifice.”

Molly Weasley stepped forward and pulled the potions master into one of her bone crushing hugs, “Thank you, Severus.”

Charlie stood back, watching Harry smile. Harry stepped forward and dropped his wand, “Charlie?”

The red haired man rushed forward and enveloped Harry in a tight embrace. “I was so worried about you,” he said. “Until Mum reminded us that you had Nannette, we were waiting for Severus to return and tell us where you were being held.”

“I enlarged Nannette as soon as the portkey dropped us, and she shot flames at Wormtail, he backed into a suit of armor, an armed suit of armor. Then she flew us through the windows at the top of the room and we ended up in the room with Voldemort and the Death Eaters. I told her to be careful not to hurt Professor Snape, but Voldemort cast the Cruciatus Curse on him, so I used the disarming spell and then the killing curse. When he fell, his soul started escaping and Professor Snape cast a spell that stopped it. Nannette carried the two bodies and the Professor and I rode on her back.”

Charlie swooped down and pressed his lips to Harry’s. “Don’t ever scare me like that again.”

Harry laughed, “Well, I don’t think that I’ll have to worry about it, once the rest of the Death Eaters are captured, we won’t have to worry about anything.”
