Title: The Marriage Law

Summery: The Ministry publicly tells the Wizarding world that the pureblooded families are in danger of dying out. To save the Wizarding world they pass the Marriage Law. How will a certain Muggle-born witch take it?

Chapter Sixteen: Baby Shopping.

Lucius was allowed to leave the Hospital Wing when Madam Pomfrey told him that he was well enough. Tonks took him to his quarters and placed wards on them so that he couldn’t get out. She didn’t care that he was a guest of Dumbledore’s he needed to remain way from the student population. Ivy visited him everyday and he found her presence a refreshing break. He still worried about Narissia the only person that he had called Mrs. Malfoy. He wondered if she was still alive though he had told the others that he knew that she was dead.

He thought about Draco and what he had done. He had been taught that you honor your marriage vows, despite the fact that he had broken them several times when he was a Deatheater he still believed in them. When he was allowed outside he saw the Snape family, he was kinda jealous of Severus and his new wife. They were first time married and they were going to have a child. There was just something about it that made him believe that even people that had done bad things in their lives deserved happeness.

On Friday right after classes had ended for the day he decided to head down to the Dungeons to see if he could have a chat with his old friend. Tonks escorted him there. She had a look of deep hate in her eyes, but right now he didn’t care. He knocked on the door and not hearing anything knocked again. A sudden banging against the door made both Lucius and Tonks jump.
“ I think I should come back tomorrow,” he told the Auror. He turned around and they both left.

The next day when Lucius did return the door was open and Hermione kissed Snape on the cheek before she turned to leave. She had an afterglow around her and he knew that she had had a night of mindblowing sex. She giggled past him and disappeared from sight.
“ Lucius,” Snape called. “ How can I help you?”
“ Well I came by last night and it sounded like you were busy, so now I’ve come back around to have a chat with you.” Snape looked both embarrassed and worried. He directed him to his quarters and they sat down.
“ Would you like something to drink?” Lucius shook his head.

Snape sat down and poured himself a special drink that Hermione had invented. He took a sip and looked at his friend thoughtfully.
“ So how does it feel to have a wife and soon to be child around?” He asked.
“ The wife part is wonderful, but I’m scared about the child part.” Lucius looked at him and then asked the next question.
“ Have you gotten anything for the child, I’m sure that I can arrange something.”

Snape didn’t know what to say; true he had a lot of money, but now that Lucius had mentioned it, Hermione was a month along and he hadn’t even gotten a crib for the baby. Lucius suspected this much.
“ Look those eight months are going to go by fast, and then she will be in pain and then a baby will be born. There are things that you have to magic-proof. And clothes, and other necessities. When Draco was brought into this world I had those things. I guess it was the first time that I wasn’t acting like a Deatheater.”

“ Well I have the room that Hermione used when she moved in. She hasn’t used it since she got used to sleeping in my bed. That could work.”
“ Well if you keep the fire going.” He commented. “ Look Severus I’m not telling you how to live, it’s just that these dungeons are not going to do.” Snape thought about this, and guessed that somethings needed to change. Lucius got up and left and Snape pulled out a piece of parchment and started to write things down. He didn’t know what babies needed, but that’s why he had Tonks and Hermione.

That night he talked to the two women about what they thought that a baby would need. Tonks talked about magical baby toys, but Hermione being Muggle-born talked about other things that the baby needed.
“ Where do we get these Muggle things?” Snape asked.
“ Well there is a place in London that my mother’s friend went to. We need to change money and then we’ll go there tomorrow. Their open until nine.”
“ Great,” Tonks said. “ I need to change into Muggle clothes and then we’ll leave.”

Snape had a feeling that he had been left out of the last part of the conversation. The next day wearing clothes that would be appropriate for the trip, all three of them left. They went to Diagon Alley and changed money and then it was off to the shop that Hermione had told them about.

The shop was located at the very end of the business district as Hermione called it. When they entered Hermione went wild. There were stuff animals everywhere, and blankets by the dozens. Hermione got a cart and looked down isles of baby clothes. She didn’t know if she was going to have a boy or a girl, so she picked some of each. Tonks looked at baby bottles that had teddy bears and elephants on them. Two hours later, and nearly three hundred pounds they left the shop. Snape wanted to shrink down the things, but Hermione told them that people would notice. So Hermione and Tonks carrying the bags, and Snape managing to carry the other things they found an alley and shrunk them. He put them in his pocket and then they were off.

When they returned to Diagon Alley Tonks took Hermione to a shop that sold baby things that were magical. Hermione picked up a photo album that you could put pictures in. There were stuff dragons that actually spit out fire, and growled. And minture house-elves that sang cute songs. Snape didn’t know if the muggle shops or the magical shops were the worse. When they were finished they headed back to Hogwarts.

“ I swear I’m going to soak my feet in a potion,” Snape told her when they had returned. She unshrunk her things and started to put them together. She used magic to get the crib and other things in order. With another wave the room turned pink, she decided that if it were a boy then she would just change it back. That night at dinner Hermione told the staff all about their adventure out in Muggle London. Professor Dumbledore thought it was funny seeing his Potions Master in that kind of store. Snape snorted and went back eating.

The next day during History of Magic a Ravenclaw 2nd year decided to make a joke about Hermione.
“ I wonder if she’s going to look like a fat cow,” he commented. Hermione glared at him. Suddenly she waved her wand and he turned into a barking dog.
“ Severus taught me that charm.” The dog bounded to the Hosptial Wing and no one made any more comments. Harry came to visit that night before dinner to see how Hermione was doing. He told her that Remus wife was going to ha gir girl.

“ I hope I have one,” Hermione commented. Harry looked at her and was tempted to ask her if she had heard anything from her parents. He guessed that she hadn’t, and the only thing that he finished off saying was that he hoped that she would be there for dinner.
“ Thanks I will be,” she told him. He smiled at he and then left. That night during dinner she ate in silence not wanting to voice her concern. Snape looked at her and decided that her silence was due to the trip. It had knocked him out, and he knew that it had knocked her out as well.

On Tuesday’s Herbology lesson they were recapping on the Mandrakes. Hermione again got the question right; she still had the image of not being able to move in her mind. This still scared her, but she found it easier to cope as time moved ahead. The next class was Double Care of Magical Creatures. Professor Hagrid talked about the Phoenix and they wrote notes on them. When the bell rang Hagrid kept her behind.
“ How do you feel?” He asked. “ F “ Fine,” she replied. “ I’m just worried about my baby thatll.”ll.” Hagrid smiled at her making her feel better then she had in two weeks.

“ You’ll do fine, I know that you will.”
“ Thanks Hagrid,” she muttered. Then taking her bag she left. Hagrid could always make her feel better, and she was grateful for it now more then ever. As the month of March started to come to a close Hermione gotook ook on baby names form Mrs. Weasley. It was an old battered copy, but to her it was new. She looked at all the names, she didn’t want anything that would make her child get made fun of, and she didn’t want one that reminded people of death. She decided that Sirius was defently out of the question as a name, Harry would kill her.

She was looking at this when Snape returned. She looked up as he put his Potion ingredience down.
“ Been getting Mandrake root,” he told her. “ Professor Spout allowed me to take some.”
“ That’s great.” She replied. He then noticed that she was reading a book on Magical names. He decided to leave her to it.

A/N: I thought that it would be funny to have Severus Snape in a baby store. I’ve decided that the Snape family is going to have a boy and a girl at one time. I hope that you all like the idea that the Malfoy family was going to have a girl. I’ll let them have a boy later in the story.
