Road trips with wizards

Chapter Seventeen. Road trips with wizards.

Between struggling with her new realization of her feelings for Lucius and going over reports from the two teams she was in charge of, Hermione was packing for her trip to the Welsh borderlands.

It would be cold and wet, nothing she wasn’t use to. She packed her favorite wintertime sweaters and made sure she threw some long underwear in there as well. Her clothes and toiletries all fit into her duffle bag, her work equipment would have to be packed in a trunk and kept shrunk in the boot until they reached the old Riddle house.

The Ministry had booked them into a small bed and breakfast near Madley, named Bridget’s Cross, under the name of Malloy; they would be posing as a couple on vacation. Since there was no magical community near the border, they would have to portkey to a small magical village about 100 miles away, and then Hermione would drive the rest of the way.

Just as she finished packing a bag of snacks and drinks for the trip, her floo sprung to life and out walked Lucius. He was dressed in his “muggle costume” as he so eloquently put it, but Hermione found the sight before her utterly delicious.

The dark denims showed off his powerful legs and the charcoal colored collared shirt set off his silvery eyes. He had a black wool coat draped over his arm, his black leather shoes and belt polished to perfection.

Lucius could not stop the smirk that formed on his lips as he watched Hermione’s eyes roam over his person.

“Darling,” she started, “would you mind turning around for just a moment?” she asked, walking closer.

“Of course my witch,” he answered, still smirking ear to ear. He felt her small hands moving down his back, over his arse to the tops of his thighs and back again. He shuddered slightly at the caress.

She then walked around and wrapped her arms around his waist, smiling up at him, her eyes dark with lust as she pinched his arse.

“You should dress as a muggle more often Lucius, you look delectable in these jeans.”

“Thank you,” he gave her a kiss, “You are the only woman to show such an interest in my arse though,” he laughed as she ran her hands over the taunt cheeks.

“Well it is quite a work of art if you ask me, but it is far from the only thing I appreciate about you.”

“Pray tell me dear, what else do you appreciate?” he asked his fingers moving around her neck and over her shoulders.

“Beside your hands, eyes, legs, back, arms,” she started ticking off on her fingers as he continued to stroke her arms. “You have a brilliant mind, a sharp wit and, despite your outward Malfoy mask, a very good heart beating in your gorgeous chest.” She finished with a quick kiss over his heart.

His heart actually fluttered under the tender touch. He gently cupped her face in his hands and brought his lips down to kiss her forehead, her cheeks, her nose and then her lips.

She kissed him back and then pulled away, “Come on, help me get everything ready before the portkey activates.” She gave his bum a swat before she moved to the kitchen.

“Oh you will pay for that little witch,” he threatened.

“Best keep your promises, My Lord,” she gave him a little wink over her shoulder.

They landed gently in a small clearing off to the side of a pub called The Brewery.

“Okay, our car should already be here. We are Lucius and Hermione Malloy…”

“They made me Irish!” Lucius sputtered.

“Oh get over yourself Lucius; the Irish are lovely people.” She smirked at his scowl.

“We are on a romantic vacation.” She smiled and took his hand.

“That part I am sure I can manage.” He replied with e genuine smile.

Behind the pub they found the mini coupe, the keys on the dash.

“Oh perfect, my mum drives one of these!” Hermione smiled as she reached in to open the boot.

Lucius smiled as he packed their bags away while Hermione situated the car’s seats and mirrors.

“Here Lucius,” she said her hand out as he slid his large frame into the small car.

He looked down and saw a band of gold resting on her palm and a matching ring on her left hand.
“To complete the disguise.” She smiled at him.

He slid it on as she started up the engine. It was far different from his first bonding ring- which he was grateful about- but the matching rings made his mind wander to the hidden ring in his pocket as Hermione pulled out onto the high street.

The ride went well, once Lucius stopped touching all the dials on the radio. They talked at length about the possibility of an elemental or perhaps another entity roaming in the vaults of the Riddle house.
They made it to the inn just as the sun was setting. Beyond the stone walls of the inn was a pretty bit of wilderness which Hermione thought would be lovely to take a walk around and stretch her legs. It had been a long time since she had driven.

“Lucius, would you like to take a quick walk?” she asked.

“Certainly darling.” The pair set off to the top of a small hill over looking a stream and field covered in frost. Lucius pulled Hermione close as the cold night wind blew around them.

“We best be getting in my love, I wouldn’t want you to catch a cold.” Lucius whispered in her ear as the sun slipped below the horizon, giving her a warm kiss.

They walked hand in hand to the front porch of the inn; before they had the chance to open the door it burst open to reveal a small woman with beautiful long silver plait in a ruffled lacy apron.

“You must be the Malloys, I was so worried when I heard the car pull up and no one came in.”

Hermione smiled at the woman, “Yes we are, sorry we worried you, we just saw that little bit of wilderness and felt like taking a walk to stretch our legs.”

“Oh yes, it was a long drive that you had.” She waved her hand for them to follow her into the ancient and cozy inn.

“You must be Ms. Griffith. This is quite a beautiful place you have.” Hermione said as they walked through the dinning room complete with roaring fire and snoozing beagle curled up on the rug close by.

“Yes I am, and thank you dear, the house has been in the family for centuries.”

“Lucius love, why don’t you go gather our things while I sort things out with Ms. Griffith?”

“Of course my dear,” he leaned down to pluck the keys from her hand and give her a kiss on the forehead. She watched him walk out the door and turned to find Ms. Griffith smiling at her.

“It is lovely to see a couple in love these days, I always said it was a smart woman who marries an older man, better chance of equal maturity.”

Hermione blushed but smiled at the older woman. “Come along Mrs. Malloy and we shall get you and your husband set in a room.”
~~
After a lovely home-cooked meal with Ms. Griffith and two other couples, Lucius and Hermione excused themselves and headed up to their comfortable room. It was a decently sized room with warm cream walls and a bronze trim. The bed and furniture were of a dark rich cherry and the large windows opened out onto the garden and woods. Lucius sat in one of the two brown leather armchairs to remove his shoes and socks while Hermione organized their clothes and research materials.

Lucius watched as Hermione moved around the space, entranced by the sway of her body as she put everything in order. She was a spectacular witch. His hand went to his waistcoat pocket where the ring sat, shrunk it is carved box.

She walked up to him with her toiletry kit in hand and gave him a quick kiss before disappearing behind the bathroom door.

He smiled and began to get ready for bed.

Later they lay side by side, curled around each other.

“Are you excited for tomorrow?” She asked with a sparkle of anticipation in her whiskey eyes.

“I am excited to see which of our hypothesizes happen to be right.” He smiled running a hand through her loose curls.

He kissed her softly “Best get some rest so we are ready for the tour of the site in the morning.”

She yawed and nodded, turning over so her back was against his chest and he could wrap his arms around her.

“Good night love.” She mumbled as sleep took her.

“Good night my heart.” He whispered kissing the back of her neck and falling to sleep curled around his witch.
